¹⁶ Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath to Isaac;

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, "I will give this land to your seed": And he built an altar to the LORD there, Who appeared to him.

¹⁸ On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

² And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."

¹⁶ and said, " 'By Myself have I sworn,' says the LORD, 'for because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son: ¹⁷ That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; ¹⁸ and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed My voice.' "

³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for to you, and to your seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father;

¹³ And behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: The land upon which you lie, I will give it to you, and to your seed; ¹⁴ and your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: And in you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

¹¹ And God said to him, "I am God Almighty: Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of your loins;

¹⁵ And moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'

⁸ and found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, "to his seed, and have performed your words; for you are righteous:

⁷² to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant; ⁷³ the oath which He swore to our father Abraham,

²⁵ You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.'

¹⁵ Brethren, I speak in the manner of men; though it is nevertheless a man's covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no man annuls it, nor adds to it. ¹⁶ Now the promises were made to Abraham and his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds", as of many; but as of one, "And to your seed", which is Christ. ¹⁷ And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before God in Christ, cannot be annulled by the law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterwards, that it should make the promise of no effect.

¹³ For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by none greater, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you." ¹⁵ And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. ¹⁶ For men truly swear by the greater: And an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. ¹⁷ In which God, more abundantly willing to show the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath: ¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
