²⁶ For you see your calling, brethren, how not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

¹² I will also leave an afflicted and poor people in the midst of you, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Even so, Father: For so it seemed good in Your sight.

³ it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the beginning, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus,

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, "I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes: Even so, Father; for so it seemed good in Your sight."

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, "How hardly shall those that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

⁴⁶ So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. ⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him, and implored Him that He would come down, and heal his son: For he was at the point of death. ⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe." ⁴⁹ The nobleman said to Him, "Sir, come down before my child dies." ⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your son lives." And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he went his way. ⁵¹ And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, "Your son lives." ⁵² Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. And they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives": And he himself believed, and his whole house.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed on Him? ⁴⁹ But this people who does not know the law are cursed."

³⁸ And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, implored Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: And Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. ³⁹ And there also came Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds in weight.

⁷ Who was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the Word of God.

¹² Then the deputy, when he saw what had been done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

³⁴ Nevertheless, certain men united with him, and believed: Among them was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

³ And I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. ⁴ And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: ⁵ That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. ⁶ Nevertheless, we speak wisdom among those that are perfect: Yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nothing:

⁸ Which none of the princes of this world knew: For had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

¹³ Which things we also speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness." ²⁰ And again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

²² All the saints salute you, especially those that are of Caesar's household.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: Because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, then it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of its fashion perishes: So also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
