¹⁰ Now to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband:

²⁰ Surely as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel', said the LORD.

¹⁴ Yet all you say, "Why?" Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously: Yet she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant. ¹⁵ And did He not make them one? Yet he had the residue of the Spirit. And why one? That He might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. ¹⁶ For the LORD, the God of Israel, says that He hates putting away: "For one covers violence with his garment", says the LORD of hosts: "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you all do not deal treacherously."

³² But I say to you, That whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: And whoever marries her that is divorced commits adultery.

³ The Pharisees also came to Him, tempting Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?" ⁴ And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read, that He which made them at the beginning 'made them male and female', ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: And those two shall be one flesh?' ⁶ For which reason they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate." ⁷ They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" ⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to put away your wives because of the hardness of your hearts: But from the beginning it was not so. ⁹ And I say to you, Whoever puts away his wife, except if it be for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery: And whoever marries her that is put away commits adultery."

¹¹ And He said to them, "Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. ¹² And if a woman puts away her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."

¹⁸ Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery: And whoever marries her that is put away from her husband commits adultery.

⁶ But I speak this by permission, and not as a commandment.

¹² But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

¹⁵ But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: But God has called us to peace.

²⁵ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment from the Lord: Yet I give my judgment, as one that has obtained mercy from the Lord to be faithful.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she remains as she is, according to my judgment: And I think that I also have the Spirit of God in this.
