1 Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And every man that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as He is pure.
4 Whoever commits sin also transgresses the law: For sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin.
6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin: Whoever sins has not seen Him, neither known Him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: He that does righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.
8 He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whoever is born of God does not commit sin; for His seed remains in him: And he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: Whoever does not perform righteousness is not of God, neither is he that does not love his brother.
11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that does not love his brother abides in death.
15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer: And you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16 By this we perceive the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God.
22 And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
23 And this is His commandment: That we should believe upon the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
24 And he that keeps His commandments dwells in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit which He has given us.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, worked in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
9 For I was alive without the law once: But when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to instead be to death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by the commandment slew me.
12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13 Was that which is good then made death to me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He did not open his mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He does not open his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: And who shall declare His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living: For the transgression of My people was He stricken.
9 And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief: When you shall make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: By His knowledge my righteous servant shall justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.

1 The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all those that have known the truth;
2 for the truth's sake, which dwells in us, and shall be with us forever.
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 I rejoiced greatly because I found out your children are walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5 And now I beseech you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
7 For many deceivers have entered into the world, who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

11 For he that bids him God-speed is a partaker of his evil deeds.
12 Having many things to write to you, I will not write more with paper and ink: But I trust to come to you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
