Why then does Adonijah reign? ¹⁴ Behold, while you yet talk there with the king, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words. ¹⁵ And Bathsheba went in to the king into the chamber: And the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered to the king. ¹⁶ And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance to the king. And the king said, "What would you? ¹⁷ And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne. ¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, you know it not: ¹⁹ And he has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: But Solomon your servant has he not called. ²⁰ And you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. ²¹ Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders. ²² And, see, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. ²³ And they told the king, saying, "Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. ²⁴ And Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, "Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? ²⁵ For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, "God save king Adonijah. ²⁶ But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, has he not called. ²⁷ Is this thing done by my lord the king, and you have not showed it to your servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him? ²⁸ Then king David answered and said, "Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king. ²⁹ And the king swore, and said, "As the LORD lives, that has redeemed my soul out of all distress, ³⁰ even as I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day. ³¹ Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, "Let my lord king David live forever. ³² And king David said, "Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king. ³³ The king also said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon: ³⁴ And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: And blow you with the trumpet, and say, "God save king Solomon. ³⁵ Then you shall come up after him, that he may come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: And I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah. ³⁶ And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, "Amen: The LORD God of my lord the king say so too. ³⁷ As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David. ³⁸ So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride on king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon. ³⁹ And Zadok the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, "God save king Solomon. ⁴⁰ And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them. ⁴¹ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar? ⁴² And while he still spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said to him, "Come in; for you are a valiant man, and bring good tidings. ⁴³ And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, "Truly our lord king David has made Solomon king. ⁴⁴ And the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule: ⁴⁵ And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: And they are come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard. ⁴⁶ And also Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom. ⁴⁷ And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, "God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on the bed. ⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, 'Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.' " ⁴⁹ And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way. ⁵⁰ And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. ⁵¹ And it was told Solomon, saying, "Behold, Adonijah fears king Solomon: For lo, he has caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, "Let king Solomon swear to me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword. ⁵² And Solomon said, "If he will show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth: But if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. ⁵³ So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: And Solomon said to him, "Go to your house.

¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

¹ And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: And the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

¹ And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies all around, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age. ² And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said to them, "I am old and stricken in age:

⁴ David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

¹ So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

²⁷ And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty-three years reigned he in Jerusalem. ²⁸ And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their strength is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

⁷ Yet they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they were both now well advanced in years.

⁵ And Sarai said to Abram, "My wrong be upon you: I have given my maid into your bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: The LORD judge between me and you."

⁸ At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister to Him, and to bless in His name, to this day.

⁶ If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, which is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, you, nor your fathers;

²¹ And David came to Saul, and stood before him: And he loved him greatly; and he became his armor-bearer. ²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, "Let David, I implore you, stand before me; for he has found favor in my sight."

³ But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: And it grew up together with him, and with his children; it ate of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him as a daughter.

⁴ And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: And Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.

¹⁷ And he said, "Speak, I implore you, to Solomon the king, (for he will not say you no), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife. ¹⁸ And Bathsheba said, "Well; I will speak for you to the king. ¹⁹ Bathsheba therefore went to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand. ²⁰ Then she said, "I desire one small petition of you; I implore you, say me not no. And the king said to her, "Ask on, my mother: For I will not say you no. ²¹ And she said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother to wife. ²² And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah. ²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life. ²⁴ Now therefore, as the LORD lives, which has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day. ²⁵ And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell on him that he died.

⁸ And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.

²⁵ So she went and came to the man of God to Mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:

² Then the king's servants that ministered to him said, "Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:

⁴ And let the maiden which pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti." And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

²⁵ And knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn Son: And he called His name JESUS.

¹⁷ Do you still exalt yourself against My people, that you will not let them go?

¹⁵ you shall in any wise set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: One from among your brothers shall you set king over you: You may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother. ¹⁶ But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: For as much as the LORD has said to you, You shall from now on return no more that way.

⁵ And David said, "Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. ⁶ Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel. ⁷ And David said to Solomon, "My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the LORD my God: ⁸ But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars: You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight. ⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around: For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰ He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. ¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has said of you.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

¹ Furthermore David the king said to all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: For the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

⁷ Their land is also full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows; because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.

² And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and of a handsome form: And there was not a person among the children of Israel more handsome than he: From his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

²³ And they ran and fetched him from there: And when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

³ and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; ⁴ and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

²⁵ But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Do not withhold correction from the child: For if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: But a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him: ⁶ For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives."

²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar informed David that Saul had slain the LORD's priests. ²² And David said to Abiathar, "I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have brought about the death of all the persons of your father's house. ²³ Abide with me, do not fear: For he that seeks my life seeks your life: But with me you shall be in safe guard."

¹⁶ And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

²⁴ And see Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: And they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city. ²⁵ And the king said to Zadok, "Carry back the ark of God into the city: If I shall find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation: ²⁶ But if he thus say, "I have no delight in you; behold, here I am, let him do to me as seems good to him. ²⁷ The king said also to Zadok the priest, Are not you a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. ²⁸ See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me. ²⁹ Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: And they tarried there.

³⁵ And have you not there with you Zadok and Abiathar the priests? Therefore it shall be, that what thing soever you shall hear out of the king's house, you shall tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

²³ Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:

²⁵ And Sheva was scribe: And Zadok and Abiathar were the priests:

²² And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest said the king, Get you to Anathoth, to your own fields; for you are worthy of death: But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the ark of the LORD God before David my father, and because you have been afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted. ²⁷ So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to the LORD; that he might fulfill the word of the LORD, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh. ²⁸ Then tidings came to Joab: For Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled to the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. ²⁹ And it was told king Solomon that Joab had fled to the tabernacle of the LORD; and behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, "Go, fall upon him. ³⁰ And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said to him, "Thus says the king, Come forth. And he said, "No; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, "Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me. ³¹ And the king said to him, "Do as he has said, "and fall upon him, and bury him; that you may take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father. ³² And the LORD shall return his blood on his own head, who fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah. ³³ Their blood shall therefore return on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed forever: But on David, and on his seed, and on his house, and on his throne, shall there be peace forever from the LORD. ³⁴ So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell on him, and slew him: And he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. ³⁵ And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: And Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

⁶ And David said, "Whoever smites the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying,

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains. ³ And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in your heart; for the LORD is with you. ⁴ And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying,

¹⁷ and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe; ¹⁸ and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief rulers.

¹ And the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him, "There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. ² The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds: ³ But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: And it grew up together with him, and with his children; it ate of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him as a daughter. ⁴ And there came a travelers to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that had come to him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that had come to him. ⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man that has done this thing shall surely die: ⁶ And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. ⁷ And Nathan said to David, "You are the man. Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul; ⁸ and I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given to you such and such things. ⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For you did it secretly: But I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. ¹³ And David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. ¹⁴ However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall surely die." ¹⁵ And Nathan departed to his house. And the LORD smote the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it was very sick.

⁸ These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: He lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time. ⁹ And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away: ¹⁰ He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword: And the LORD worked a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil. ¹¹ And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentils: And the people fled from the Philistines. ¹² But he stood in the middle of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: And the LORD worked a great victory. ¹³ And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam: And the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁴ And David was then in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. ¹⁵ And David longed, and said, "Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate! ¹⁶ And the three mighty men broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: Nevertheless he would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD. ¹⁷ And he said, "Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: Is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men. ¹⁸ And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three. ¹⁹ Was he not most honorable of three? Therefore he was their captain: However, he attained not to the first three. ²⁰ And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lion like men of Moab: He went down also and slew a lion in the middle of a pit in time of snow: ²¹ And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: And the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. ²² These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men. ²³ He was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard. ²⁴ Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, ²⁵ shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite, ²⁶ helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, ²⁷ abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite, ²⁸ zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite, ²⁹ heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, ³⁰ benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash, ³¹ abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite, ³² eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan, ³³ shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite, ³⁴ eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite, ³⁵ hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite, ³⁶ igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite, ³⁷ zelek the Ammonite, Nahari the Beerothite, armor-bearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah, ³⁸ ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite, ³⁹ uriah the Hittite: Thirty and seven in all.

³⁵ And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: And Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

¹⁰ These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. ¹¹ And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: He lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time. ¹² And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men. ¹³ He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. ¹⁴ And they set themselves in the middle of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance. ¹⁵ Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶ And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem. ¹⁷ And David longed, and said, "Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate! ¹⁸ And the three broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: But David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD. ¹⁹ And said, "My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: Shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. ⁵ The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: And in his course were twenty and four thousand. ⁶ This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: And in his course was Ammizabad his son.

¹⁵ But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the ordinances of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near to Me to minister to Me, and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood", says the Lord GOD:

¹³ the family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;

⁷ And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: And the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out of it were at Enrogel:

²³ And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep shearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: And Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, "Behold now, your servant has sheep shearers; let the king, I beseech you, and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable to you. And he pressed him: However, he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they did not know anything. ¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹⁷ Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: And a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

²⁴ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her: And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon: And the LORD loved him.

⁸ But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

¹⁹ And he has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: But Solomon your servant has he not called.

¹² And when your days be fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: ¹⁵ But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. ¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: Your throne shall be established forever. ¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

²⁴ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her: And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon: And the LORD loved him. ²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around: For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰ He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

⁴ However, the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever: For he has chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel: ⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

¹⁷ And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, "Escape for your life; do not look behind you, neither stay anywhere in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed."

⁵ And he went to his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brothers the sons of Jerubbaal, being three score and ten persons, on one stone: Notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

²¹ Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

¹ And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

⁴ Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brothers with the sword, and diverse also of the princes of Israel.

¹⁰ But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

¹⁴ Where no counsel is, the people fall: But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

²² Without counsel purposes are disappointed: But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: And with good advice make war.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: So does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, will you not listen to me?"

³⁸ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.'

³¹ Paul said to the centurion, and to the soldiers, "Unless these men remain in the ship, you cannot be saved."

¹⁸ And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

¹⁷ And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

²⁴ And Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, "Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?

³⁰ even as I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

³⁵ Then you shall come up after him, that he may come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: And I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, 'Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.' "

¹² Then sat Solomon on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

⁶ Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel. ⁷ And David said to Solomon, "My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the LORD my God: ⁸ But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars: You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight. ⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around: For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰ He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. ¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has said of you. ¹² Only the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ Then you shall prosper, if you take heed to fulfill the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: Be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

²³ Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

¹¹ The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it; "From the fruit of your body I will set kings upon the throne. ¹² If your children will keep My covenant and My testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon your throne forevermore."

⁷ Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from now on even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

²¹ then also may My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, My ministers.

³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: And the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of His father David: ³³ And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end."

¹⁷ And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne. ¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, you know it not: ¹⁹ And he has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: But Solomon your servant has he not called. ²⁰ And you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. ²¹ Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders. ²² And, see, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. ²³ And they told the king, saying, "Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. ²⁴ And Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, "Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? ²⁵ For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, "God save king Adonijah. ²⁶ But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, has he not called. ²⁷ Is this thing done by my lord the king, and you have not showed it to your servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. "By the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established."

¹ Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he got no heat.

⁴¹ And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: And they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

⁸ David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried out after Saul, saying, "My lord the king." And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

²³ And when Abigail saw David, she hurried, and lighted off the donkey, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground,

²³ And they told the king, saying, "Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

²⁰ Then she said, "I desire one small petition of you; I implore you, say me not no. And the king said to her, "Ask on, my mother: For I will not say you no.

² And the king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, "What is your petition, queen Esther? And it shall be granted you: And what is your request? And it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom."

²¹ And He said to her, "What do you desire?" She said to Him, "Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, the one on Your right hand, and the other on the left, in Your kingdom."

³² Then Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, "What do you will that I do to you?"

¹² Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"

¹³ Go and get you in to king David, and say to him, Did not you, my lord, O king, swear to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

⁶ Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: Whose daughters you are, as long as you do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, "Absalom reigns in Hebron.

⁵ Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king: And he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

²⁷ Is this thing done by my lord the king, and you have not showed it to your servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

¹⁷ "And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance you did it, as also did your rulers.

⁷ And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: And they following Adonijah helped him. ⁸ But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah. ⁹ And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat domestic beasts by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants: ¹⁰ But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

²⁵ For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, "God save king Adonijah.

² the Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and his word was in my tongue.

⁸ But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars: You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. ⁶ And he said to me, 'Solomon your son, he shall build my house and my courts: For I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

¹⁰ Take heed now; for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary: Be strong, and do it.

¹² O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: But our eyes are on you.

¹⁵ My eyes are ever toward the LORD; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

² Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until He has mercy upon us.

⁹ For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: Behold, I will engrave the carved work upon it', says the LORD of hosts, 'and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

¹⁵ And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.

¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them.

¹² And when your days be fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹⁰ So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

¹⁵ And he said, "You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: However, the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: For it was his from the LORD.

²² And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah. ²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life. ²⁴ Now therefore, as the LORD lives, which has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

¹⁵ And it came to pass, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house:

²⁰ And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;

¹⁶ And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance to the king. And the king said, "What would you?

⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: Tribute to whom tribute is due; customs to whom customs; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹³ Go and get you in to king David, and say to him, Did not you, my lord, O king, swear to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign? ¹⁴ Behold, while you yet talk there with the king, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words.

¹⁷ And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your handmaid, saying, "Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne. ¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, you know it not:

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?" And all the people shouted, and said, "God save the king."

¹⁴ Then Samuel said to the people, "Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there." ¹⁵ And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, had come to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, "God save the king, God save the king.

⁹ And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat domestic beasts by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brothers the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

³⁴ And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: And blow you with the trumpet, and say, "God save king Solomon.

¹² And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, "God save the king.

¹³ Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name.

²¹ And they sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, on the next day after that day, even a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:

¹¹ Then they brought out the king's son, and put on him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, "God save the king.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."

⁹ Also those who went before, and those who followed, cried out, saying, "Hosanna; 'Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord': ¹⁰ Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest."

³⁸ saying, " 'Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the LORD': Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest."

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains.

²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

¹⁰ But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

²⁷ And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: But Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, "Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: And the LORD has hid it from me, and has not told me.

¹⁵ From this time forward I do not call you servants; for the servant does not know what his lord does: But I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

¹⁶ the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

¹⁹ And he said, "They were my brothers, even the sons of my mother: As the LORD lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

³⁹ For, as the LORD lives, which saves Israel, though it be through Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

⁴⁵ And the people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: As the LORD lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." Thus the people rescued Jonathan, so that he did not die.

⁶ And Saul hearkened to the voice of Jonathan: And Saul swore, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be slain."

²¹ And behold, I will send a lad, saying, 'Go, find the arrows.' If I expressly say to the lad, 'Behold, the arrows are on this side of you, take them'; then you may come: For there is peace to you, and no hurt; as the LORD lives.

⁹ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man that has done this thing shall surely die:

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁰ As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom, where my lord has not sent to seek you: And when they said, "He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found you not.

³⁰ And the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And he arose, and followed her.

¹⁶ But he said, "As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: But, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivers him out of them all. ²⁰ He keeps all his bones: Not one of them is broken. ²¹ Evil shall slay the wicked: And those that hate the righteous shall be desolate. ²² The LORD redeems the soul of His servants: And none of those that trust in Him shall be desolate.

¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: And their blood shall be precious in his sight.

²⁴ And has redeemed us from our enemies: For His mercy endures forever.

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me: You shall stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand shall save me.

⁶ Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, "Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold your servant!

³ and said to the king, Let the king live forever: Why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchers, lies waste, and its gates are consumed with fire?

² And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: For the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow, nor did he reverence.

⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Syriac, "O king, live forever: Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation."

⁹ They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever.

¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords: And the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever: Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed.

⁶ Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, "king Darius, live forever.

²¹ Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever.

³⁷ But last of all he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will reverence my son.'

³³ Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she reverence her husband.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: Should we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

²⁶ But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, has he not called.

³⁸ So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride on king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

⁴³ and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, "Bow the knee": And he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your domestic beasts engender with a diverse kind: You shall not sow your field with mingled seed: Neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come on you.

⁶ And David said to Abishai, "Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: Take you your lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us. ⁷ And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: And they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

⁴⁴ And the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule: ⁴⁵ And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: And they are come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.

³⁰ This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

¹⁴ Now after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said to him, "What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?" Now Haman thought in his heart, "To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?" ⁷ And Haman answered the king, "For the man whom the king delights to honor, ⁸ let the royal apparel be brought which the king wears, and the horse that the king rides upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: ⁹ And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man with whom the king delights to honor, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, 'Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.' " ¹⁰ Then the king said to Haman, "Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as you have said, "and do exactly so to Mordecai the Jew, that sits at the king's gate: Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken." ¹¹ Then Haman took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor."

¹ Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, "Is it not because the LORD has anointed you to be captain over His inheritance?

³ And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: And you shall anoint to Me him whom I name to you."

¹² And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and at the same time of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And the LORD said, "Arise, anoint him: For this is he." ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, "That the men of Jabeshgilead were those that buried Saul.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: And they anointed David king over Israel.

¹⁶ And Jehu the son of Nimshi shall you anoint to be king over Israel: And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shall you anoint to be prophet in your room.

³ then take the box of oil, and pour it upon his head, and say, "Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

⁶ And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.

¹³ Then they hurried, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, "Jehu is king.

¹⁴ And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: And Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.

⁷ You love righteousness, and hate wickedness: Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.

²⁰ I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him:

³⁶ His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.

⁵ Sing to the LORD with the harp, with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. ⁶ With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. ⁷ Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who dwell in it.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him.

²¹ Now He which establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God; ²² who has also sealed us, and given the first fruits of the Spirit in our hearts.

⁶ "Yet I have set My king upon My holy hill of Zion."

¹⁵ cursed be the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. ²⁹ Yet a man is risen to pursue you, and to seek your soul: But the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God; and the souls of your enemies, those ones He shall sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.

²⁷ Now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may be before you forever: For you bless, O LORD, and it shall be blessed forever.

² The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

¹⁶ Otherwise when you bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, seeing he does not understand what you say?

¹² And He said, "Certainly I will be with you; and this shall be a token sign to you, that I have sent you: When you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain."

⁴⁷ And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, "God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on the bed.

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: And I am but a little child: I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: For who is able to judge this your so great a people?

⁹ And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I be taken away from you. And Elisha said, "I implore you, let a double portion of your spirit be on me.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: Fear not, nor be dismayed: For the LORD God, even my God, will be with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

¹ And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

²⁰ And Joab answered and said, "Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹ The matter is not so: But a man of Mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, "Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall. ²² Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king. ²³ Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:

¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

²² And ate and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

¹³ And she looked, and behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: And all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of music, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, "Treason, Treason.

¹⁵ And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

²⁰ And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: And they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.

³⁸ All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: And all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. ³⁹ And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: For their brothers had prepared for them. ⁴⁰ Moreover those that were near them, even to Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: For there was joy in Israel.

¹ The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of islands be glad because of it.

⁵ that at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up:

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, your King comes to you: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey, and upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.

³⁷ And when He was drawing near, even now at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign forever and ever." ¹⁶ And the twenty-four elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshiped God, ¹⁷ saying, "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which is, and was, and is to come; because You have taken to Yourself Your great power, and have reigned. ¹⁸ And the nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should give reward to Your servants the prophets, and to the saints, and those that fear Your name, small and great; and should destroy those which destroy the earth."

¹⁷ And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, "There is a noise of war in the camp."

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him. ²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

¹³ Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

⁴ The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. ⁵ It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. ⁶ For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: This also is vanity.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." ¹⁰ And when He came into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, "Who is this?" ¹¹ Moreover the multitude said, "This is Jesus the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David"; they were intensely displeased,

³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and did not know until the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so also shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

³¹ Now as they went about to kill him, news came to the chief captain of the soldiers, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

²⁷ The king said also to Zadok the priest, Are not you a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

³⁶ Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them you shall send to me every thing that you can hear.

²⁷ And the watchman said, "Me thinks the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good tidings.

¹⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

²² And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

²¹ "There is no peace", said my God, "for the wicked."

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁵ And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

¹⁴ And he said to her, "What form is he of?" And she said, "An old man comes up; and he is covered with a mantle." And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

⁴⁰ And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, "Come in, you wife of Jeroboam; why feign you yourself to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy tidings.

¹³ So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: For the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

¹¹ The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it; "From the fruit of your body I will set kings upon the throne.

²² and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

³¹ And he said, "Swear to me." And he swore to him. And Israel bowed himself on the bed's head.

³² Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, "and be gone; and bless me also."

¹⁰ then Toi sent Joram his son to king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: For Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

³ Why David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? And with which shall I make the atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the LORD?

³⁷ As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

¹⁰ That they may offer sacrifices of sweet smells to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The LORD hear you in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend you; ² send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion; ³ remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice; selah. ⁴ Grant according to your own heart, and fulfill all your counsel.

²¹ By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed both of the sons of Joseph; and worshiped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

²⁰ And blessed be the most high God, which has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

⁶ And Solomon said, "You have showed to your servant David my father great mercy, according to as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass, when your days be expired that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your seed after you, which shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. ¹² He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: And I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before you: ¹⁴ But I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever: And his throne shall be established forevermore.

¹⁷ And yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O God; for you have also spoken of your servant's house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

¹⁰ Why David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: And David said, "Blessed be you, LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

²⁰ And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshiped the LORD, and the king.

⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, "Stand up and bless the LORD your God forever and ever: And blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

¹ A Psalm of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

¹³ Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.

¹¹ Then said she, I implore you, let the king remember the LORD your God, that you would not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, "As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of your son fall to the earth.

²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

⁶ Righteousness keeps him that is upright in the way: But wickedness overthrows the sinner.

¹² The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked: But God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.

³⁰ But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

¹⁸ But not a hair of your head shall perish.

³⁴ Therefore I urge you to take some food: Because this is for your health: For not a hair shall fall from the head of any of you."

² it even came to pass on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes torn, and earth upon his head: And so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

²⁴ And the king said, "Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.

²⁸ So Absalom dwelled two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face.

³¹ Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, "Let my lord king David live forever.

³⁶ And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Build you a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth there any where.

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king: And do not meddle with those that are given to change:
