¹⁹ For this is thank-worthy, if for conscience toward God a man endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me.

¹⁹ Do not let those that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: Neither let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.

¹⁹ But my enemies are lively, and they are strong: And those that wrongfully hate me are multiplied.

⁴ Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: Those who would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty: Then I restored that which I did not take away.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when men revile you, persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: For great is your reward in heaven: For in like manner they persecuted the prophets which were before you.

³² For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you have? For sinners also love those that love them.

²¹ But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him that sent Me.

²³ Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave to the Lord.

⁵ Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am: And His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: Yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

¹ Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed upon the churches of Macedonia;

¹² For this reason I also suffer these things: Nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that day.

²⁰ For what glory is it if, when you are buffeted for your faults, you take it patiently? But if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

¹⁴ But even if you suffer for righteousness' sake, you are happier: "And do not be afraid of their terror, neither be troubled"; ¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: And always be ready to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason for the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: ¹⁶ Having a good conscience; that when they speak evil of you, as of evil-doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. ¹⁷ Indeed it is better, if it is the will of God, that you suffer for well doing, than for doing evil.
