¹ And it came to pass, that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: And finding certain disciples, ² he said to them, "Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?" But they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." ³ And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." ⁴ Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe upon Him which should come after him, that is, upon Christ Jesus." ⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied. ⁷ Now the men were about twelve in all. ⁸ And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a span of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. ⁹ But when different people were hardened, and did not believe, but spoke evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and withdrew the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. ¹⁰ And this continued for a span of two years; so that all those who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. ¹¹ And God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul: ¹² So that handkerchiefs or aprons from his body were brought to the sick, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. ¹³ Then certain ones of the vegabond Jews, exorcists, took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches." ¹⁴ And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and a chief of the priests, who did so. ¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" ¹⁶ Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. ¹⁷ Moreover this was known to all the Jews and also Greeks dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. ¹⁸ And many that believed came, and confessed, and disclosed their deeds. ¹⁹ Also, many of them which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: And they counted up the price of them, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. ²⁰ So the Word of God grew mightily and prevailed. ²¹ After these things were accomplished, Paul purposed in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome." ²² So he sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. ²³ And at the same time there arose no small stir over that way. ²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen; ²⁵ whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this craft we have our wealth. ²⁶ Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods, which are made with hands: ²⁷ So that not only is our craft in danger of being disregarded as nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship." ²⁸ Now when they heard these words, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians." ²⁹ Then the whole city was filled with confusion: And having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theater. ³⁰ And when Paul would have entered in to the people, the disciples did not permit him. ³¹ And certain chiefs of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him, beseeching him that he would not himself venture into the theater. ³² Some therefore cried out one thing, and some another: For the assembly was confused; and for the most part did not know why they had come together. ³³ And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made his defense to the people. ³⁴ But when they had knowledge that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about a span of two hours, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians." ³⁵ And when the town clerk had appeased the people, he said, "You men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? ³⁶ Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, you ought to be quiet, and do nothing rashly. ³⁷ For you have brought these men here, who are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. ³⁸ Therefore, if Demetrius, and the craftsmen who are with him, have a matter against any man, the court of law is open, and there are deputies: Let them bring charges against one another. ³⁹ But if you inquire anything concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly. ⁴⁰ For we are in danger of being called into question for today's uproar, there being no cause which we may give to account for this assembling together." ⁴¹ And when he had spoken these things, he dismissed the assembly.

¹ After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

¹⁹ And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: But he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. ²⁰ When they implored him to tarry a while longer with them, he did not consent; ²¹ but bid them farewell, saying, "I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem: But I will return again to you, if God wills." And he sailed from Ephesus.

²³ And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples. ²⁴ Moreover a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. ²⁵ This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spoke and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. ²⁶ And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: Whom when Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him to them, and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly. ²⁷ And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: Who, when he had come, greatly helped those who had believed through grace: ²⁸ For he mightily convinced the Jews, and publicly at that, showing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

¹² Now I say this, that every one of you says, "I am of Paul"; or "I am of Apollos"; or "I am of Cephas"; or "I am of Christ."

⁴ For while one says, "I am of Paul"; and another, "I am of Apollos"; are you not carnal? ⁵ Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? ⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither he that plants is anything, nor he that waters; but God that gives the increase.

¹² Now concerning our brother Apollos, I greatly implored him to come to you with the brethren: But he was quite unwilling to come at this time; but he will come at his convenience when he has time.

⁷ Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.

³⁹ (But this He spoke about the Spirit, which those who believe in Him should receive: For the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

¹⁷ 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

¹⁵ Who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: ¹⁶ (For as yet He had fallen upon none of them: They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) ¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

⁴⁴ While Peter still spoke these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' ¹⁷ Seeing then that God gave them the same gift as He did to us, who believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, that I could withstand God?"

⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹¹ For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established;

¹⁹ What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God, and you are not your own?

¹ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would rather not have you ignorant. ² You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as you were led. ³ Therefore I make known to you that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: And that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit. ⁴ Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit with altogether. ⁸ For to one is given the word of wisdom by the Spirit; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another diverse kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ But all these work effectually by that one and the exact same Spirit, dividing to every man distinctly as He wills.

⁵ Therefore, He that ministers the Spirit to you, and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

¹ In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² and saying, "Repent: For the kingdom of heaven is at hand." ³ For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the LORD, make His paths straight.' " ⁴ And the same John had his clothing from camel's hair, with a leather girdle around his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits suitable for repentance: ⁹ And do not think to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewed down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water as to repentance: But He that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: ¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." ¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. ¹⁴ But John forbade Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and You come to me?" ¹⁵ And Jesus answering said to him, "Let it be so now: For thus it befits us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he let Him. ¹⁶ And when Jesus was baptized, He immediately went up out of the water: And lo, the heavens were opened to Him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: ¹⁷ And behold a voice from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

¹⁹ Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,tetrarch; or, governor of four provinces ² Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the Word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. ³ And he came into all the country around Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; ⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked place will be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; ⁶ and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.' " ⁷ Then he said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ⁹ And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Every tree therefore which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire." ¹⁰ Therefore the people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?" ¹¹ He answered and said to them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise." ¹² Then publicans also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Master, what shall we do?" ¹³ And he said to them, "Require no more than that which is appointed to you." ¹⁴ Likewise the soldiers demanded of him, saying, "And what shall we do?" ¹³ For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Gentiles, whether we are bond-servants or free; and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water as to repentance: But He that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: ¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

³ and said to Him, "Are You He that should come? Or should we look for another?" ⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and show John again those things which you hear and see: ⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

²⁵ The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven, or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ But if we say, 'From men'; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet." ²⁷ Therefore they answered Jesus, and said, "We cannot tell." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, 'Son, go work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ He answered and said, 'I will not': But afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ Then he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I will go, sir': And did not go. ³¹ Which of those two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: But the publicans and the harlots believed him: And you, when you had seen it, did not repent afterward, that you might believe him.

¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; ² as it is written in the prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You. ³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the LORD, make His paths straight.' " ⁴ John baptized in the wilderness, and preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. ⁵ And all the land of Judea went out to him, and those of Jerusalem, and were all baptized by him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁶ Now John was clothed with camel's hair, and a girdle of a skin around his loins; and he ate locusts and wild honey; ⁷ and he preached, saying, "There comes one mightier than I after me, the strap of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. ⁸ I indeed have baptized you with water, but He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit." ⁹ And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. ¹⁰ And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him: ¹¹ And there came a voice from heaven, saying, "You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." ¹² And immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.

⁷⁶ And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: For you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways; ⁷⁷ to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, ⁷⁸ through the tender mercy of our God; by which the Dayspring from on high has visited us, ⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

¹⁶ John answered, saying to them all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I comes, the strap of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire: ¹⁷ Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and will gather the wheat into His granary; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." ¹⁸ And in His exhortation he preached many other things to the people.

⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

¹⁵ John bore witness of Him, and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I spoke, 'He that comes after me is preferred before me: For He was before me.' "

²⁷ it is He, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe string I am not worthy to unloose."

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me: For He was before me.' ³¹ And I did not know Him: But that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore I have come baptizing with water." ³² And John bore record, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Him. ³³ And I did not know Him: But He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, 'Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God."

²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ', but that, 'I am sent before Him.' ²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: This joy of mine is therefore fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ He that comes from above is above all: He that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: He that comes from heaven is above all. ³² And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no man receives His testimony. ³³ He that has received His testimony has set to his seal that God is true. ³⁴ For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God: For God does not give the Spirit by limited measure to Him. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. ³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

³³ You sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth. ³⁴ But I do not receive testimony from man: But these things I say, that you might be saved. ³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: And you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

⁵ For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

¹⁶ Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

²³ From this man's seed, God has, according to His promise, raised up to Israel a Savior, Jesus: ²⁴ When John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, 'Who do you think that I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, whose shoes of His feet I am not worthy to loose.'

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹² But when they believed Philip as he was preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

⁴⁸ And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they implored him to tarry some days.

³ Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: That just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

¹³ Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? ¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius; ¹⁵ lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

² and all were baptized to Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

¹⁷ And these signs shall follow those who believe; in My name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁶ Whom they set before the apostles: And when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, "Give me this power also, that whoever I lay hands on, he may receive the Holy Spirit."

¹⁷ And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me, that you might receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

⁴⁵ And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

¹ Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers; like Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. ² As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

²⁸ And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? ³⁰ Do all have the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

¹ Follow after love, and desire spiritual gifts, but preferably that you may prophesy. ² For he that speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to men, but to God: For no man understands him; nevertheless in the spirit he speaks mysteries. ³ But he that prophesies speaks edification, exhortation, and comfort to men. ⁴ He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the church. ⁵ I would like that you all spoke with tongues, but far more that you prophesied: For greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the church may receive edification. ⁶ Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? ⁷ And even things without life bringing forth sound, whether pipe or harp, unless they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? ⁸ For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle? ⁹ So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? For you shall speak into the air. ¹⁰ There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. ¹¹ Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he who speaks shall be a barbarian to me. ¹² Even so you, as much as you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church. ¹³ For which reason let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. ¹⁴ For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. ¹⁵ What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding: I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. ¹⁶ Otherwise when you bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, seeing he does not understand what you say? ¹⁷ For you truly give thanks well, but the other is not edified. ¹⁸ I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all: ¹⁹ Yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. ²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in understanding: Yet in malice be children, but in understanding be men. ²¹ In the law it is written, "With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; and yet, for all that, they will not hear Me", says the Lord. ²² Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those that believe, but to unbelievers: Moreover prophesying does not serve unbelievers, but is for those who believe. ²³ If therefore the whole church comes together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are beside yourselves? ²⁴ But if all prophesy, and there comes in one that does not believe, or one unlearned, he is convinced by all, he is discerned by all: ²⁵ And in this way the secrets of his heart are made apparent; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is truly in you.

²² Do not suddenly lay hands on any man, neither be a partaker of other man's sins: Keep yourself pure.

⁶ Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

³ To whom He also showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. ²¹ But all that heard him were amazed, and said; "Is this not he that destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and came here for that intent purpose, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?" ²² But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt in Damascus, proving that this is truly Christ.

¹⁴ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

¹ And it came to pass in Iconium, that they both went together into the synagogue of the Jews, and in like manner spoke, so that a large multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

¹ Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews: ² And Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, ³ revealing and alleging that it was necessary for Christ to have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that, "This Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ."

¹⁷ Therefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout people, and in the market daily with those that met with him.

⁴ And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

¹⁹ And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: But he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

⁹ But when different people were hardened, and did not believe, but spoke evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and withdrew the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

²² Having therefore obtained help from God, I continue to this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said would come: ²³ That Christ would suffer, and that He should be the first that would rise from the dead, and would show light to the people, and to the Gentiles."

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the Law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning until evening.

³ Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write to you about the common salvation, it was necessary for me to write to you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.

¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

⁸ Now be you not stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever: And serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and did not hearken to your commandments, ¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsook them not.

²⁹ and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law: Yet they dealt proudly, and did not hearken to your commandments, but sinned against your judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them); and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

⁸ "Do not harden your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

¹⁴ And He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

²⁶ Yet they did not listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: They did worse than their fathers.

¹⁵ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear My words.' "

¹⁴ Leave them alone: They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them, and departed.

⁵⁵ In that same hour Jesus said to the multitudes, "Have you come out as against a thief with swords and wooden staffs to take Me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hold of Me.

⁵¹ Do you suppose that I have come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no; but rather division: ⁵² For from this time forward there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."

⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do.

² and desired from him letters to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

²⁶ And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass, that for a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁴ But the multitude of the city was divided: And part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

⁴ And some of them believed, and united with Paul and Silas; and a large multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the chief women.

⁶ But when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his clothes, and said to them, "Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: From now on I will go to the Gentiles." ⁷ And he departed from there, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was adjoined directly to the synagogue. ⁸ Then Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized.

²³ And at the same time there arose no small stir over that way.

³⁰ And when Paul would have entered in to the people, the disciples did not permit him.

³¹ Therefore watch, and remember, that for a span of three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

⁴ And I persecuted this way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

²¹ except if it was for this one expression, that I cried out standing among them, 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am called into question by you this day.' "

²² But we desire to hear from you what you think: For concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere."

¹⁸ Therefore He has mercy on whom He will have mercy, and whom He wills He hardens.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the chosen have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

⁵ perverse disputing by men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: From such withdraw yourself.

¹⁵ This you know, that all those who are in Asia have turned away from me; among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

⁵ having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it: From such turn away.

² Preach the word; be at hand in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today"; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

² And many shall follow their pernicious ways; because of by whom the way of truth shall be spoken evil of.

¹² But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they do not know: But what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

⁶ Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia,

¹¹ And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the Word of God among them.

⁸ And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a span of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

²² So he sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

²⁶ Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods, which are made with hands: ²⁷ So that not only is our craft in danger of being disregarded as nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship."

¹⁸ And when they had come to him, he said to them, "You know, from the first day that I came into Asia, in what manner I have been with you throughout all seasons,

²⁰ And how I kept back nothing that was profitable to you, but have shown you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, ²¹ testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: For it is the power of God to salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹² For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: For the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

¹⁸ But I say, have they not heard? Yes truly, "Their sound went into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world."

²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: ²³ But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness; ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond-servant nor free, there is neither male nor female: For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

¹¹ Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond-servant nor free: But Christ is all, and in all.

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

⁴ John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be to you, and peace, from Him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before His throne;

¹¹ saying, "I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last": And, "What you see, write in a book, and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia; to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

¹⁷ And these signs shall follow those who believe; in My name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; ¹⁸ they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." ¹⁹ So then after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. ²⁰ And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

¹² Truly, truly, I say to you, He that believes in Me, the works that I do he shall do also; and greater works than these he shall do; because I go to My Father.

¹² And by the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were performed among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's Porch.

¹³ Then Simon himself also believed: And when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

³ They therefore abode a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony to the word of His grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

¹² Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had worked among the Gentiles by them.

¹⁸ And this she did many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out the same hour.

¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not worked by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, ¹⁹ Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and fully around to Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, with diverse miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go your way: If you meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute you, answer him not again: And lay my staff on the face of the child. ³⁰ And the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And he arose, and followed her. ³¹ And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Why he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child is not awaked.

²⁰ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. ²¹ And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulcher of Elisha: And when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

¹⁵ so that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

¹² when you till the ground, it shall not yield her strength to you from now on; a fugitive and a vagabond you shall be in the earth."

¹⁴ Behold, You have driven me out from the face of the earth this day; and from Your face I shall be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that everyone that finds me shall slay me."

²⁶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho: He shall lay its foundation in his firstborn, and in his youngest son he shall set up the gates of it."

²⁴ And the men of Israel were distressed that day: For Saul had adjured the people, saying, "Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on my enemies." So none of the people tasted any food.

¹⁶ And the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?

¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places.

²⁷ And if I cast out devils through Beelzebub, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God."

⁷ and cried out with a loud voice, and said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, that You do not torment me."

³⁸ And John answered Him, saying, "Master, we saw someone casting out devils in Your name, and he does not follow us: Therefore we forbade him, because he does not follow us."

⁴⁹ Moreover John answered and said, "Master, we saw someone casting out devils in Your name; and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us."

¹⁹ And if I cast out devils through Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

¹ Now the serpent was more subtle than any wild beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Yes, has God said, 'All of you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?' "All of you: In KJV, Ye; hence "All of you" signifies a plural "you" ² And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: ³ But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.' " ⁴ And the serpent said to the woman, "You shall not surely die: ⁵ For God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

²¹ And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, "I will persuade him. ²² And the LORD said to him, "With which? And he said, "I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, "You shall persuade him, and prevail also: Go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time? ³⁰ And a good ways off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. ³¹ So the devils implored Him, saying, "If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine."

²⁴ saying, "Let us alone; what have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God."

³⁴ And He healed many that were sick with diverse diseases, and cast out many devils; and He did not permit the devils to speak, because they knew Him.

⁹ Also He asked him, "What is your name?" And he answered, saying, "My name is Legion: For we are many." ¹⁰ And he implored Him greatly that He would not send them away out of the country. ¹¹ Now there was a large herd of swine feeding there near the mountains. ¹² And all the devils implored Him, saying, "Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them." ¹³ And immediately Jesus gave them leave. Then the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: And the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (there were about two thousand); and choked in the sea.

³³ Then in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ saying, "Let us alone; what have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who You are; the Holy One of God." ³⁵ Then Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Hold your peace, and come out of him." And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, it came out of him, and did not hurt him.

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God most high? I beseech You, do not torment me." ²⁹ (For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: And he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he broke the bands, and was driven by the devil into the wilderness.) ³⁰ And Jesus asked him, saying, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion": Because many devils were entered into him. ³¹ And they implored Him that He would not command them to go out into the deep. ³² Moreover there was a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: And they implored Him that He would permit them to enter into them. And He permitted them.

¹⁷ The same followed Paul and us, and cried out saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, which show to us the way of salvation." ¹⁸ And this she did many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out the same hour.

³ who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: ⁴ Because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: Neither could any man tame him.

¹⁵ Then they came to Jesus, and saw him who was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: And they were afraid.

²⁹ (For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: And he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he broke the bands, and was driven by the devil into the wilderness.)

³⁵ Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: And they were afraid.

³ Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is it that the LORD spoke, saying, "I will be sanctified in them that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

²⁰ And the men of Beth-Shemesh said, "Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? And to whom shall He go up from us?"

⁹ And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, "How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?

⁹ And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of His doing.

⁶⁵ Then fear came on all who dwelt around them: And all these words were spread abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea.

¹⁶ And there came a fear on everyone: And they glorified God, saying that, "A great prophet is risen up among us"; and that, "God has visited His people."

⁴³ Moreover fear came upon every soul: And many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

⁵ Now Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and gave up the ghost: Therefore great fear came on all those that heard these things.

¹¹ Therefore great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

¹³ And none of the rest dared join himself to them: But the people magnified them.

¹² Then the deputy, when he saw what had been done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing shall I be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

⁹ Therefore God has also highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: ¹⁰ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth; ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹² That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free run, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

⁸ You have put all things in subjection under his feet." For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. ⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that He by the grace of God might taste death for every man.

¹² saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing." ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, saying, "Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to Him that sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever." ¹⁴ And the four beasts said, "Amen." And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him that lives forever and ever.

²¹ And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

⁴⁰ If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me;

²⁷ He looks on men, and if any say, "I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; ²⁸ he will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

⁵ I acknowledged my sin to You, and I have not hid my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹³ He that covers his sins shall not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice', said the LORD.

⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

³¹ Then you shall remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

⁶ and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

¹⁰ For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.

⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

⁴ And they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

¹¹ Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: Now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

²² And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: And Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken to them; as the LORD had said.

²⁰ And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

²⁵ The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire: You shall not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared in it: For it is an abomination to the LORD your God. ²⁶ Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it: But you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

¹⁰ There shall not be found among you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. ¹¹ Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. ¹² For all that do these things are an abomination to the LORD: And because of these abominations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you.

⁷ Then Saul said to his servants, "Seek me a woman that has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her." And his servants said to him, "Behold, there is a woman that has a familiar spirit at Endor." ⁸ And Saul disguised himself, and put on other clothing, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: And he said, "I implore you, divine to me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name to you." ⁹ And the woman said to him, "Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?"

¹³ So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;

⁶ And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: Also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: He worked much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

²⁰ In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; ²¹ to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He rises to shake terribly the earth.

¹⁹ And when they shall say to you, "Seek those that have familiar spirits, and to wizards who peep, and who mutter": Should not a people seek their God? For the living instead of the dead?

²² You shall also defile the covering of your graven images of silver, and the ornament of your molten images of gold: You shall cast them away as a menstruous cloth; you shall say to it, 'Be gone.' "

¹² Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; if so perhaps you shall be able to profit, if so perhaps you may prevail. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save you from these things that shall come on you.

² Then the king commanded to call to the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to show the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be cast into hell.

³³ So likewise, whoever he is among you who does not forsake all that he has, he cannot be My disciple.

⁹ But there was a certain man, called Simon, who beforehand used sorcery in the same city, and bewitched the people of Samaria, boasting that he himself was some great one: ¹⁰ To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God." ¹¹ And they had regard for him, because for a long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

⁶ Moreover when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the deputy away from the faith.

³⁴ For you had compassion on me in my chains, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have a better and an enduring substance in heaven.

¹¹ So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

⁷ Then the Word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem; and a large company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

²⁴ But the Word of God grew and multiplied.

³⁷ Who is he who speaks, and it comes to pass, when the Lord does not command it?

⁶ Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia, ⁷ after they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia: But the Spirit did not permit them. ⁸ And passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. ⁹ And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; there stood a man of Macedonia, and he implored him, saying, "Come over into Macedonia, and help us." ¹⁰ Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavored to go into Macedonia, assuredly trusting that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.

¹² And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made an insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

²¹ but bid them farewell, saying, "I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem: But I will return again to you, if God wills." And he sailed from Ephesus.

¹ After the uproar had ceased, Paul called the disciples to himself, embraced them, and departed to go into Macedonia. ² Now when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, ³ and abode there three months. And when the Jews laid in wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. ⁴ And Sopater of Berea accompanied him into Asia, also Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. ⁵ These going on before, tarried for us at Troas. ⁶ And we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and came to them at Troas in five days, where we abode seven days.

¹⁶ For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: For he hastened, if it were possible for him, to be in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost.

²² And now behold, I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:

⁴ And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: Who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

¹¹ When he had come to us, he took Paul's belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit, 'So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.' " ¹² Now when we heard these things, both we, and those from that place, implored him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, "What makes you weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus." ¹⁴ Now when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, "The will of the Lord be done." ¹⁵ And after those days we packed up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁷ And when we had come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹¹ And the following night the Lord stood by him, and said, "Be of good cheer, Paul: For as you have testified of Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome."

¹⁷ "Now after many years I came to bring charitable alms to my nation, and offerings. ¹⁸ Upon which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a multitude, nor with tumult.

¹⁰ Then Paul said, "I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you very well know. ¹¹ For if I am an offender, or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die: But if there is nothing to these things of which they accuse me, no man may deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar." ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, "You have appealed to Caesar? To Caesar you shall go."

¹ And when it was determined that we should sail to Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band of soldiers.

²⁴ saying, 'Fear not, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar: And look, God has given you all those who sail with you.'

¹⁶ And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: But Paul was permitted to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

³⁰ Also Paul dwelt two whole years in his own leased house, and received all who came in to him, ³¹ preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

¹³ Now I would rather not have you ignorant, brethren, that I often purposed to come to you, (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

¹⁵ Even so, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are at Rome also.

²³ But now no longer having a place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come to you; ²⁴ Whenever I take my journey to Spain, I will come to you: For I trust to see you on my journey, and to be brought on my way there by you, if first I am somewhat content with your company. ²⁵ But now I go to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. ²⁶ For it has pleased them from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. ²⁷ It has pleased them truly; and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in carnal things. ²⁸ Therefore, when I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain. ²⁹ Moreover I am sure that, when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

⁵ Now I will come to you, when I pass through Macedonia: For I do pass through Macedonia.

¹⁵ And in this confidence I intended to come to you before, that you might have a second benefit; ¹⁶ and to pass by you into Macedonia, and to return again from Macedonia to you, and to be brought on my way toward Judea by you. ¹⁷ When I therefore was thus minded, did I employ lightness? Or the things I purposed, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes yes, and No no? ¹⁸ But as God is true, our word to you was not Yes and No.

¹ Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.

¹² But I would like you to understand, brethren, that the things which happened to me have turned out better for the furtherance of the gospel; ¹³ so that my chains in Christ are apparent in all the palace, and in all other places; ¹⁴ and many of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

⁷ So that you were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

⁵ And when they were at Salamis, they preached the Word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: And they also had John as their minister.

¹ Then he came to Derbe and Lystra: And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain woman, who was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

³ Paul intended him to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: For they all knew that his father was a Greek.

⁵ And when Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

¹⁰ And this continued for a span of two years; so that all those who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

²⁹ Then the whole city was filled with confusion: And having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theater.

¹ After the uproar had ceased, Paul called the disciples to himself, embraced them, and departed to go into Macedonia.

²³ Gaius, my host, and the whole church, salutes you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city salutes you, and Quartus, a brother.

¹⁶ and to pass by you into Macedonia, and to return again from Macedonia to you, and to be brought on my way toward Judea by you.

¹³ I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother: But taking my leave of them, I went from there into Macedonia.

¹ Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed upon the churches of Macedonia;

⁹ And when I was present with you, and in need, I was chargeable to no man: For that which was lacking to me the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied: And I kept myself from being burdensome to you in all things, and I will keep myself as such.

⁸ For the word of the Lord sounded out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith towards God is spread abroad; so that we do not need to speak anything.

²⁰ Erastus abode at Corinth: But I have left Trophimus at Miletum sick.

²⁶ And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: Whom when Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him to them, and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly.

¹⁴ But this I confess to you, that according to the way which they call heresy, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the prophets:

²² And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, "When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost regarding your matter."

⁸ For we do not intend, brethren, to have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: In whom we trust that He will yet deliver us;

⁹ as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

¹¹ Yes, they are greedy dogs who can never have enough, and they are shepherds who cannot understand: They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. ¹² "Come all of you", they say, "I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like today, and much more abundant."

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, that a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:of divination; or, of Python

¹⁹ Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace to the rulers,

²⁷ So that not only is our craft in danger of being disregarded as nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship." ²⁸ Now when they heard these words, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians."

³⁴ But when they had knowledge that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about a span of two hours, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians." ³⁵ And when the town clerk had appeased the people, he said, "You men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while coveting after, some have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁸ They eat up the sin of My people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

⁷ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: He loves to oppress. ⁸ And Ephraim said, 'Yet I have become rich, I have found my substance: In all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that was sin.'

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all fragrant wood, and all sorts of ivory vessels, and all sorts of most precious wood vessels, and of brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and incense, and fragrant ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after have departed from you, and all things which were dainty and gorgeous have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! ¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like this great city!' ¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich because of her costliness! For in one hour she is made desolate.

²⁸ And there you shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ⁶ they have ears, but they do not hear: They have noses, but they do not smell: ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle: They have feet, but they do not walk: Neither do they speak through their throat. ⁸ Those who make them are similar to them; so is everyone that trusts in them.

¹⁵ The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths. ¹⁸ Those that make them are like them: So is everyone that trusts in them.

¹⁰ Who has formed a god, or cast a graven image that is profitable for nothing? ¹¹ Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: And the workmen, they are of men: Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. ¹² The smith with the tongs both works in the coals, and fashions it with hammers, and works it with the strength of his arms: Yes, he is hungry, and his strength fails: He drinks no water, and is faint. ¹³ The carpenter stretches out his rule; he marks it out with a line; he fits it with planes, and he marks it out with the compass, and makes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. ¹⁴ He hews himself down cedars, and takes the cypress and the oak, which he strengthens for himself among the trees of the forest: He plants an ash, and the rain does nourish it. ¹⁵ Then it shall be for a man to burn: For he will take of it, and warm himself; yes, he kindles it, and bakes bread; yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a graven image, and falls down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire; with part of it he eats flesh; he roasts roast, and is satisfied: Yes, he warms himself, and said, "Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: ¹⁷ And the residue of it he makes into a god, even his graven image: He falls down to it, and worships it, and prays to it, and said, "Deliver me; for you are my god." ¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: For He has shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ And none considers in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned part of it in the fire; yes, also I have baked bread on the coals of it; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: And I shall make the residue of it an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?" ²⁰ He feeds on ashes: A deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

⁵ To whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal, and compare Me, that we may be alike? ⁶ They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: They fall down, yes, they worship. ⁷ They bear him on the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place he shall not move: Yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble. ⁸ Remember this, and show yourselves men: Bring it to mind again, O you transgressors.

³ For the customs of the people are vain: For one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. ⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it does not move. ⁵ They are upright like the palm tree, but do not speak: They must be carried, because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. ⁶ For as much as there is none like to You, O LORD; You are great, and Your name is great in might.

¹¹ Thus you shall say to them, "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, they shall even perish from the earth, and from under these heavens."

¹⁴ Every man is brutish in His knowledge: Every founder is confounded by the graven image: For His molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, and the work of errors: In the time of their visitation they shall perish.

⁶ For it also came from Israel: The workman made it; therefore it is not God: But the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

¹⁵ and saying, "Sirs, why do you do these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vanities to the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them:

²⁹ In as much as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is similar to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

¹⁸ And many that believed came, and confessed, and disclosed their deeds. ¹⁹ Also, many of them which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: And they counted up the price of them, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. ²⁰ So the Word of God grew mightily and prevailed.

⁴ Therefore concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

¹⁹ What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything? ²⁰ Rather, I am saying that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: And I would not intend that you should have fellowship with devils.

² You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as you were led.

⁸ But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. ⁹ For a great and effectual door is opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

⁸ Nevertheless, when you did not know God, you did service to those which by nature are not gods.

⁹ For they themselves bring word to us regarding what manner of entering in we had used among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

²⁰ And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues yet did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: Which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk:

¹¹ The LORD will be terrible to them: For He will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship Him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

²¹ After these things were accomplished, Paul purposed in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."

¹⁹ And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

³ And I saw one of his heads, how it was wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: And all the world wondered after the beast.

⁸ And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. ⁴ And when they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

²⁶ And they took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, "O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped on the altar which was made. ²⁷ And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, "Cry aloud: For he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleeps, and must be awaked. ²⁸ And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out on them. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying,

⁵ The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. ⁶ Everyone helped his neighbor; and everyone said to his brother, "Be of good courage." ⁷ So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he who smoothes with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, "It is ready for the soldering": And he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

³⁸ A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, and they are insane with their idols.

⁵⁴ When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed upon him with their teeth.

¹⁹ Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace to the rulers, ²⁰ And brought them to the magistrates, saying, "These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city, ²¹ and teach customs which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans." ²² Then the multitude rose up together against them: And the magistrates tore off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. ²³ And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely: ²⁴ Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and fastened their feet in the stocks.

²⁸ crying out, "Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: And furthermore also brought Greeks into the temple, and has polluted this holy place." ²⁹ (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) ³⁰ And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: And they took Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: Then immediately the doors were shut. ³¹ Now as they went about to kill him, news came to the chief captain of the soldiers, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

¹² Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time."

⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

¹³ These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength to the beast.

⁹ And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; there stood a man of Macedonia, and he implored him, saying, "Come over into Macedonia, and help us."

⁸ And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

³² Some therefore cried out one thing, and some another: For the assembly was confused; and for the most part did not know why they had come together.

⁴ And Sopater of Berea accompanied him into Asia, also Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

³⁴ Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have served for my necessities, and for those that were with me.

³⁰ And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: And they took Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: Then immediately the doors were shut.

³⁸ Are you not that Egyptian, who some time ago made an uproar, and led out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?"

² And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail along the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius;

⁹ For I think that God has approved us apostles last, as it were appointed to death: For we are made a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.

¹⁹ and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us, together with this grace which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaring your readiness of mind:

¹⁰ Aristarchus my fellow-prisoner greets you, and Marcus, the sister's son of Barnabas, (about whom you received commands: If he comes to you, receive him);

²⁴ also Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow-laborers.

² And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also. ³ But the people answered, You shall not go forth: For if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: But now you are worth ten thousand of us: Therefore now it is better that you succor us out of the city.

¹⁷ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, "You shall go no more out with us to battle, that you quench not the light of Israel.

¹⁴ Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard this, they tore their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, ¹⁵ and saying, "Sirs, why do you do these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vanities to the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them: ¹⁶ Who in times past allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. ¹⁷ Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness." ¹⁸ And with these sayings they barely restrained the people, that they did not sacrifice to them.

²² Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' Hill, and said, "You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious. ²³ For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom you therefore ignorantly worship, Him I declare to you. ²⁴ "God that made the world and all things in it, seeing He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; ²⁵ neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life, breath, and all things; ²⁶ and He has made from one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the pre-appointed times, and the bounds of their habitation; ²⁷ that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He is not far from every one of us: ²⁸ For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as also certain ones of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' ²⁹ In as much as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is similar to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. ³⁰ Indeed, the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent: ³¹ Because He has appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He has ordained; of which He has given assurance to all men, in that He has raised Him from the dead."

³⁹ But Paul said, "I am a man who is a Jew from Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no average city: Moreover I beseech you, permit me to speak to the people."

⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

¹² Now when we heard these things, both we, and those from that place, implored him not to go up to Jerusalem.

⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And more than a prophet.

²⁴ And when the messengers of John were departed, He began to speak to the people concerning John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ²⁵ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who are gorgeously clothed, and live delicately, are in kings' courts. ²⁶ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And much more than a prophet.

⁴⁰ For we are in danger of being called into question for today's uproar, there being no cause which we may give to account for this assembling together."

³⁴ And some among the multitude cried one thing, some another: And when he could not know the truth because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.

²² Moreover when he came out, he could not speak to them: And they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: For he beckoned to them, and remained speechless.

¹⁷ But he, beckoning to them with the hand to hold their peace, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Go report these things to James, and to the brethren." And he departed, and went into another place.

¹⁶ Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you that fear God, give audience.

⁴⁰ Now when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand to the people. And when a great silence was made, he spoke to them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

¹⁰ Then Paul, after the governor had beckoned to him to speak, answered, "In as much as I know that you have been a judge to this nation for many years, I do all the more cheerfully answer for myself:

¹ Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You are permitted to speak for yourself." Then Paul stretched forth his hand, and answered for himself: ² "I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself before you this day concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews:

⁷ Even as it is fitting for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my chains, and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of my grace.

²⁰ Of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: The Lord reward him according to his works:

⁷ But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: For they think that they shall be heard because of their many words.

²⁰ And brought them to the magistrates, saying, "These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city,

²⁶ Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods, which are made with hands:

²⁸ Now when they heard these words, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians."

²² You who say, "A man should not commit adultery", do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege?

¹² And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ Then the priest of Jupiter, who was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

¹² because at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

² speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: But he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

⁸ Do not go hastily forth to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

³⁵ And said to them, "You men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do touching these men. ³⁶ For some days ago Theudas rose up, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: Who was slain; and as many as obeyed him were all scattered, and brought to nothing. ³⁷ After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the taxing, and drew away many people after him: He also perished; and even as many as obeyed him were all dispersed. ³⁸ And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will come to nothing: ³⁹ But if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it; lest you may even be found to fight against God."

⁸ Meanwhile, he answered for himself, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended in anything at all."

³² Give no offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

³ Giving no offense in anything, that the ministry is not blamed:

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates: Then you shall arise, and get you up into the place which the LORD your God shall choose;

⁷ Who was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the Word of God.

¹⁴ And when Paul now was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked lewdness, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you:

¹ Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to a court of law before the unjust, and not before the saints?

⁴¹ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

⁵ But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people."

⁵ But the Jews which did not believe, moved with envy, took certain lewd fellows of the vile sort, and gathered a company, set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. ⁶ But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These that have turned the world upside down have come here also; ⁷ Whom Jason has received: And all of them do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus." ⁸ And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

³¹ Now as they went about to kill him, news came to the chief captain of the soldiers, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

⁷ Which stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath: But grievous words stir up anger. ² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools.
