23 And he called two centurions to himself, saying, "Prepare two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at the third hour of the night; 24 and provide for them beasts, that they may set Paul upon, and bring him safe to Felix the governor." 25 Then he wrote a letter in the following manner: 26 Claudius Lysias, To the most excellent governor Felix: Greetings. 27 This man was taken by the Jews, and would have been killed by them: Then I came with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman. 28 And when I intended to know the cause for why they accused him, I brought him forth into their council: 29 What I perceived was that he is accused over questions of their law, but had nothing charged against him worthy of death nor of chains. 30 And when it was told to me how the Jews laid in wait for the man, I sent him immediately to you, and also gave commands to his accusers to speak before you what they had against him. Farewell. 31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded to them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32 On the next day, they left the horsemen to go on with him, and returned to the castle:
