³⁰ "And when forty years were expired, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

⁷ And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur. ⁸ And he said, "Hagar, Sarai's maid, from where have you come? And where will you go?" And she said, "I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai." ⁹ And the angel of the LORD said to her, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands." ¹⁰ And the angel of the LORD said to her, "I will multiply your seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude." ¹¹ And the angel of the LORD said to her, "Behold, you are with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael; because the LORD has heard your affliction. ¹² And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brothers." ¹³ And she called the name of the LORD that spoke to her, You are 'God that sees me': For she said, "Have I also looked here at Him that sees me?"

¹⁵ And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham out of heaven the second time, ¹⁶ and said, " 'By Myself have I sworn,' says the LORD, 'for because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son: ¹⁷ That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; ¹⁸ and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed My voice.' "

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and there a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ And he said, "Let me go, for the day breaks." And he said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." ²⁷ And he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." ²⁸ And he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel: For as a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed."Israel; that is, A prince of God ²⁹ And Jacob asked him, and said, "Tell me, I implore you, your name." And he said, "Why is it that you ask after my name?" And he blessed him there. ³⁰ And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: "For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."Peniel; that is, The face of God

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said, "God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God which fed me all my life long to this day, ¹⁶ the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

¹ Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: And he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. ² And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush: And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

⁷ And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

¹ In the third month, when the children of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. ² For they had departed from Rephidim, and came to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

²⁰ But the LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as you are this day.

¹⁶ and for the precious things of the earth and fullness of it, and for the good will of him that dwelled in the bush: Let the blessing come on the head of Joseph, and on the top of the head of him that was separated from his brothers.

⁸ And he arose, and ate and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.

¹² You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: But You brought us out into a wealthy place.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle on you.

⁹ In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them: In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

²⁷ And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor was the smell of fire passed on to them.

³ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God: ⁴ Yes, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: He wept, and made supplication to him: He found him in Bethel, and there He spoke with us; ⁵ even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is His memorial.

¹ "Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me: And the Lord, Whom all of you seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, Whom you all delight in: Behold, He shall come", says the LORD of hosts.

²⁶ And concerning the dead, that they rise: Have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?

³⁷ Now Moses even told at the bush that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'

¹⁷ "But when the time of the promise drew near, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

³² saying, 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' Then Moses trembled, and dared not behold.

³⁵ "This Moses whom they refused, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the same that God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

²⁵ For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to that which is now Jerusalem, and is in bondage with her children.
