¹³ In any case you shall deliver him the pledge again when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his own clothing, and bless you: And it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

⁶ And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness.

²⁶ If you take any of your neighbor's clothing to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by that time the sun goes down: ²⁷ For that is his only covering, it is his clothing for his skin: In what shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he cries to Me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

²⁵ And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.

⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, "The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: Because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.

¹⁵ At his day you shall give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor, and sets his heart on it: Lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you.

⁷ They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold. ⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb); ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up, and executed judgment: And so the plague was halted. ³¹ And that was counted to him for righteousness to all generations forevermore.

⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

⁸ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: And your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear-guard.

⁷ and has not oppressed any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has spoiled none by violence, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹² has oppressed the poor and needy, has spoiled by violence, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

¹⁶ neither has oppressed any, has not withheld the pledge, neither has spoiled by violence, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment,

¹⁵ if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he had robbed, walks in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility."

⁸ And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid in pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

¹³ While through the proof of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution to them, and to all men; ¹⁴ and by their prayer for you, who long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.

²⁶ "Be angry, and do not sin": Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath:

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: ¹⁷ But when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that day: And you know very well in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹³ For he that has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment. ¹⁴ What does it profit, my brethren, though a man says he has faith, and does not have works? Can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled"; but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸ Yes, a man may say, "You have faith, and I have works": Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ¹⁹ You believe that there is one God; you do well: The devils also believe, and tremble. ²⁰ But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Do you see how faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him as righteousness": And he was called the Friend of God.
