⁵ When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: But he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he has taken.

²⁴ Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: And they shall be one flesh.

⁷ And what man is there that has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed: And rejoice with the wife of your youth.

⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: For that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you toil under the sun.

⁴ And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read, that He which made them at the beginning 'made them male and female', ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: And those two shall be one flesh?' ⁶ For which reason they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate."

¹⁰ Now to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: And do not let the husband put away his wife. ¹² But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. ¹³ And the woman which has a husband that does not believe, if he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. ¹⁴ Because the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: Otherwise your children are unclean; but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: But God has called us to peace.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: It means, that even those that have wives be as though they had none;

²⁸ So husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹ For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord does the church:

⁴ that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God is not blasphemed.
