¹ In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: ³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.' ⁴ But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: You shall fall upon the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you to the wild beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven for meat. ⁶ And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ⁷ When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke, and rend all their shoulder: And when they leaned upon you, you broke, and made all their loins to be at a stand." ⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you. ⁹ And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: Because he has said, 'The river is mine, and I have made it.' ¹⁰ Behold, therefore I am against you, and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even to the border of Ethiopia. ¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. ¹² And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be desolate forty years among the cities that are laid waste: And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries." ¹³ Yet thus says the Lord GOD; "At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the people where they were scattered: ¹⁴ And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be a lowly kingdom there. ¹⁵ It shall be the lowest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself above the nations any more: For I will diminish them, that they shall no longer rule over the nations. ¹⁶ And it shall no longer be the confidence of the house of Israel, who brings their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: But they shall know that I am the Lord GOD." ' " ¹⁷ And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁸ "Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: Yet he had no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it: ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor with which he served against it, because they worked for Me', said the Lord GOD. ²¹ In that day I will cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give you the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.' "

² On the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,

¹ And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there on me.

¹ And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

¹ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹⁷ And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

¹ In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was smitten, on the same day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me to that place.

¹ Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia: ² That sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes on the waters, saying, "Go, you swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning until now; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!" ³ All you inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, you shall see, when he lifts up an ensign upon the mountains; and when he blows a trumpet, you shall hear. ⁴ For so the LORD said to me, "I will take My rest, and I will consider in My dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest." ⁵ For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off both the sprigs with pruning-hooks, and take away and cut down the branches. ⁶ They shall be left together to the fowls of the mountains, and to the wild beasts of the earth: And the fowls shall summer on them, and all the wild beasts of the earth shall winter on them. ⁷ In that time the present shall be brought to the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning until now; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the Mount Zion.

¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: And the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. ² "And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: And they shall fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. ³ And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of her; and I will destroy her counsel: And they shall seek to consult the idols, and to consult the charmers, and to those that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards. ⁴ And I will give the Egyptians over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them", said the Lord, the LORD of hosts. ⁵ And the waters from the sea shall fail, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. ⁶ And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defense shall be emptied and dried up: The reeds and flags shall wither. ⁷ The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and everything sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. ⁸ The fishers shall also mourn, and all those who cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and those that spread nets on the waters shall languish. ⁹ Moreover those who work in fine flax, and those who weave networks, shall be confounded. ¹⁰ And they shall be broken in its purposes, all who make flood-gates and ponds for fish. ¹¹ Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh has become brutish: How do you say to Pharaoh, "I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?" ¹² Where are they? Where are your wise men? And let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed on Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even those who are the support of its tribes. ¹⁴ The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in the midst of it: And they have caused Egypt to err in every work of it, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. ¹⁵ Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do. ¹⁶ In that day Egypt shall be like women: And it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shakes over it. ¹⁷ And the land of Judah shall be a terror to Egypt, everyone that makes mention of it shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he has determined against it.

¹ In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him), and fought against Ashdod, and took it; ² at the same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, "Go and loose the sackcloth from off your loins, and put off your shoe from your foot." And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. ³ And the LORD said, "As like my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and wonder on Egypt and on Ethiopia; ⁴ so shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptian's prisoners, and the Ethiopian's captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. ⁵ And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory. ⁶ And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, 'Behold, such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: And how shall we escape?' "

²⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will punish all those who are circumcised with the uncircumcised; ²⁶ egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all who are in the utmost corners, who dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart."

¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;

⁸ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, ⁹ "Take great stones in your hand, and hide them in the clay in the brick kiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah; ¹⁰ and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. ¹¹ And when he comes, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver whoever is for death to death; and whoever is for captivity to captivity; and whoever is for the sword to the sword. ¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: And he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in peace. ¹³ He shall also break the images of Bethshemesh, who is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians he shall burn with fire." ' "

³⁰ Thus says the LORD; 'Behold, I will give Pharaohhophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those who seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.' "

² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. ³ "Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses; and get up you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the body armor. ⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back away? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: For fear was all around", said the LORD. ⁶ "Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. ⁷ Who is this who comes up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he said, 'I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.' ⁹ Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of his adversaries: And the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. ¹¹ Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: In vain you shall use many medicines; for you shall not be cured. ¹² The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they have both fallen together." ¹³ The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.' ¹⁵ Why are your valiant men swept away? They did not stand because the LORD drove them away. ¹⁶ He made many fall, yes, one fell on another: And they said, 'Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.'

² "Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them,

⁴⁶ "Son of man, set your face toward the south, and drop your word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

² "Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and drop your word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,

² "Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them;

²¹ "Son of man, set your face against Zidon, and prophesy against it, ²² and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you: And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.

¹ The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, ² "Son of man, prophesy and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Howl, 'Woe is the day!' ³ For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen. ⁴ And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down. ⁵ Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land who are in league, shall fall by the sword with them." ⁶ Thus says the LORD; "Those also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: From the tower of Syene they shall fall in it by the sword", says the Lord GOD. ⁷ "And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted. ⁸ And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed. ⁹ In that day messengers shall go forth from Me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid, and great pain shall come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: For lo, it comes." ¹⁰ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. ¹¹ He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: And they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. ¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it." ¹³ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: And I will put a fear in the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ And I will make Pathros desolate, and will set fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments in No. ¹⁵ And I will pour My fury on Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. ¹⁶ And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be torn asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. ¹⁷ The young men of Aven and of Pibeseth shall fall by the sword: And these cities shall go into captivity. ¹⁸ At Tehaphnehes the day shall also be darkened, when I shall break the yokes of Egypt there: And the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: As for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity. ¹⁹ Thus I will execute judgments in Egypt: And they shall know that I am the LORD." ' " ²⁰ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ²¹ "Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and lo, it shall not be bound up to be healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword. ²² Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand. ²³ And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. ²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put My sword in his hand: But I will break Pharaoh's arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man. ²⁵ But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt. ²⁶ And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countries; and they shall know that I am the LORD.' "

¹ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; 'Whom are you like in your greatness? ³ Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of a high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. ⁴ The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running around his plants, and sent her little rivers to all the trees of the field. ⁵ Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth. ⁶ All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the wild beasts of the field brought forth their young, and under his shadow all great nations dwelled. ⁷ Thus he was fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: For his root was by great waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: The fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like him in his beauty. ⁹ I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: So that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.' ¹⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; ¹¹ I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. ¹² And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: On the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from his shadow, and have left him. ¹³ All the fowls of the heaven shall remain on his ruin, and all the wild beasts of the field shall be on his branches: ¹⁴ To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all who drink water: For they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit.' ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; 'In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its floods, and the great waters were stayed: And I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. ¹⁶ I made the nations shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with those who descend into the pit: And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth. ¹⁷ They also went down into hell with him to those who were slain with the sword; and they who were his arm, who dwelled under his shadow in the midst of the heathen. ¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth: You shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude', said the Lord GOD."

¹ And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, 'You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a whale in the seas: And you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.' ³ Thus says the Lord GOD; 'I will therefore spread out My net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in My net. ⁴ Then I will leave you upon the land, I will cast you forth on the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain on you, and I will fill the wild beasts of the whole earth with you. ⁵ And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your height. ⁶ I will also water the land with your blood in which you swim, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of you. ⁷ And when I shall put you out, I will cover the heaven, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. ⁸ I will make all the bright lights of heaven dark over you, and set darkness on your land', said the Lord GOD. ⁹ 'I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known. ¹⁰ Yes, I will make many people amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I shall brandish My sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.' ¹¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'The sword of the king of Babylon shall come on you. ¹² By the swords of the mighty I will cause your multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: And they shall spoil the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed. ¹³ I will also destroy all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them. ¹⁴ Then I will make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil', said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ 'When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that whereof it was full, when I shall smite all those who dwell in it, then they shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁶ This is the lamentation with which they shall lament her: The daughters of the nations shall lament her: They shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude', said the Lord GOD." ¹⁷ It also came to pass in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁸ "Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit. ¹⁹ 'Whom do you pass in beauty? Go down, and be laid with the uncircumcised.' ²⁰ They shall fall in the midst of those who are slain by the sword: She is delivered to the sword: Draw her and all her multitudes. ²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him: 'they have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.' ²² Asshur is there and all her company: His graves are about him: All of them slain, fallen by the sword: ²³ Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is all around her grave: All of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living. ²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which have gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: Her graves are all around him: All of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: Though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit: He is put in the midst of those who are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: Her graves are all around him: All of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war: And they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be on their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. ²⁸ Yes, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with those who are slain with the sword. ²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, which with their might are laid by those who were slain by the sword: They shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit. ³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. ³¹ Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword", said the Lord GOD. ³² "For I have caused My terror in the land of the living: And he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude", said the Lord GOD.

¹⁹ Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

¹⁸ And if the family of Egypt does not go up, and does not come, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, with which the LORD will smite the heathen that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.that have no rain: In Hebrew, upon whom there is not rain ¹⁹ This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

¹⁷ and you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

¹³ You did divide the sea by Your strength: You break the heads of the dragons in the waters. ¹⁴ You break the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

⁷ You, even You, are to be feared: And who may stand in Your sight when at once You are angry?

¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped."

¹ In that day the LORD shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent with His severe and great and strong sword, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Was it not You who cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

² "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God:

²² and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you: And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.

⁹ And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: Because he has said, 'The river is mine, and I have made it.' ¹⁰ Behold, therefore I am against you, and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even to the border of Ethiopia.

² "Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, 'You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a whale in the seas: And you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.'

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?" ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, "O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom has departed from you.

⁶ Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.abide: In Hebrew, stand up

³ And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. ⁴ And his tail drew a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth: And the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.

¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

² And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: And the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

¹¹ Then I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon.

¹³ And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

²⁸ Because your rage against me and your tumult has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way by which you came.

¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? Or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put a hook into his nose? Or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, have come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way which you came." '

⁴ And I will turn you back, and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you forth, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armor, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

² The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that He will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

¹⁴ And make men as the fish of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? ¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad.

⁴⁴ And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the field."

⁵ The LORD at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the heathen, He shall fill the places with the dead bodies; He shall wound the heads over many countries.

³³ And the carcasses of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the wild beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: They shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.

⁴ "They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung on the face of the earth: And they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the wild beasts of the earth."

³³ And on that day the slain of the LORD shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth: They shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: And their dead bodies shall be for meat to the fowls of the heaven, and to the wild beasts of the earth.

¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth: You shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude', said the Lord GOD."

⁴ Then I will leave you upon the land, I will cast you forth on the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain on you, and I will fill the wild beasts of the whole earth with you. ⁵ And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your height. ⁶ I will also water the land with your blood in which you swim, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of you.

⁴ You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you, and all your bands, and the people that are with you: I will give you to the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the wild beasts of the field to be devoured. ⁵ You shall fall upon the open field: For I have spoken it", says the Lord GOD. ⁶ "And I will send a fire upon Magog, and among those that dwell carelessly in the isles: And they shall know that I am the LORD.

¹¹ "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give to Gog a place of graves there in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: And it shall stop the noses of the passengers: And they shall bury Gog and all his multitude there: And they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. ¹² And the house of Israel shall be burying them for seven months, that they may cleanse the land. ¹³ Yes, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified", says the Lord GOD. ¹⁴ "And they shall separate out men for continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: After the end of seven months they shall search. ¹⁵ And the passengers that pass through the land, when any of them sees a man's bone, he shall then set up a sign by it, until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog. ¹⁶ And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus they shall cleanse the land. ¹⁷ "And, you son of man, thus says the Lord GOD; 'Speak to every feathered fowl, and to every wild beast of the field, "Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to My sacrifice that I sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh, and drink blood. ¹⁸ You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatted calves of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you shall eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. ²⁰ Thus you shall be filled at My table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war" ', says the Lord GOD.

¹⁷ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses, and of those that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great."

¹⁴ For at this time I will send all My plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people; that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.

¹⁸ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten Myself honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen."

²¹ Now, behold, you trust on the staff of this bruised reed, even on Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.

² Who walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked My advice; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! ³ Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. ⁴ For his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes. ⁵ They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach." ⁶ The burden of the wild beasts of the south: Into the land of trouble and anguish, from where comes the young and old lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them. ⁷ For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: Therefore I have cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! ² Yet He is also wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back His words: But will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity. ³ Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, both he that helps shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they shall all fail together.

⁶ See, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

³⁶ Why gad you about so much to change your way? You also shall be ashamed of Egypt, as you were ashamed of Assyria.

¹⁷ As for us, our eyes yet failed, for our help is vain: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

²² and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you: And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her. ²³ For I will send pestilence into her, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword on her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD. ²⁴ And there shall be no longer a pricking brier to the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn from all who are around them, who despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD."

²⁶ And they shall dwell safely in it, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yes, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those who despise them around them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God." ' "

⁸ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. ⁹ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

³ Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

¹⁹ Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

⁵ Thus says the LORD; "Cursed is the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh the arm of his strength, and whose heart departs from the LORD. ⁶ For he shall be like the shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land that is not inhabited.

⁵ Then Pharaoh's army came forth out of Egypt: And when the Chaldeans who besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. ⁶ Then the word of the LORD came to the prophet Jeremiah saying, ⁷ "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; '"Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me; "Behold, Pharaoh's army, which came forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. ⁸ And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.' ⁹ Thus says the LORD; 'Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: For they shall not depart. ¹⁰ For though you had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet they should rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. ¹¹ And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

¹⁵ But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? Shall he escape who does such things? Or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered? ¹⁶ As I live', said the Lord GOD, 'surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. ¹⁷ Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:

⁷ And the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repents Me that I have made them."

¹² For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt: I am the LORD.

²⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, My anger and My fury shall be poured out on this place, upon man, and upon beast, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched."

⁴³ And fields shall be bought in this land, of which you say, "It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans."

¹³ The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.' ¹⁵ Why are your valiant men swept away? They did not stand because the LORD drove them away. ¹⁶ He made many fall, yes, one fell on another: And they said, 'Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.' ¹⁷ They cried there, 'Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has passed the appointed time.' ¹⁸ "As I live", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, "Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. ¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity: For Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. ²⁰ Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north. ²¹ Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fattened bulls; for they are also turned back, and have fled away together: They did not stand, because the day of their calamity had come on them, and the time of their visitation. ²² The sound of it is like a serpent as it goes; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. ²³ They shall cut down her forest', said the LORD, 'though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.' ²⁴ The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. ²⁵ The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, said; "Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all those who trust in him: ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: And afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old", said the LORD.

¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, 'Sword, go through the land'; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also stretch out My hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and those from Dedan shall fall by the sword.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor with which he served against it, because they worked for Me', said the Lord GOD.

⁴ And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.

¹⁰ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.

¹⁰ Yes, I will make many people amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I shall brandish My sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.' ¹¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'The sword of the king of Babylon shall come on you. ¹² By the swords of the mighty I will cause your multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: And they shall spoil the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed. ¹³ I will also destroy all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: But honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.'

¹⁰ Behold, therefore I am against you, and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even to the border of Ethiopia. ¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. ¹² And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be desolate forty years among the cities that are laid waste: And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries."

⁷ "And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted. ⁸ And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed.

¹³ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: And I will put a fear in the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ And I will make Pathros desolate, and will set fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments in No. ¹⁵ And I will pour My fury on Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. ¹⁶ And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be torn asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. ¹⁷ The young men of Aven and of Pibeseth shall fall by the sword: And these cities shall go into captivity. ¹⁸ At Tehaphnehes the day shall also be darkened, when I shall break the yokes of Egypt there: And the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: As for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity. ¹⁹ Thus I will execute judgments in Egypt: And they shall know that I am the LORD." ' "

² "Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baalzephon: You shall encamp before it by the sea.

¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.'

¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "Those also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: From the tower of Syene they shall fall in it by the sword", says the Lord GOD. ⁷ "And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted. ⁸ And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed. ⁹ In that day messengers shall go forth from Me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid, and great pain shall come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: For lo, it comes."

¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it."

⁸ Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? Was Your anger against the rivers? Was Your wrath against the sea, that You rode upon Your horses and Your chariots of salvation?

²¹ To fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: For as long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfill three score and ten years.

¹⁵ And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: After the end of seventy years Tyre shall sing as a harlot.

¹⁷ And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.

¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

¹⁰ For thus says the LORD, 'That after seventy years are accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

¹¹ And when he comes, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver whoever is for death to death; and whoever is for captivity to captivity; and whoever is for the sword to the sword. ¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: And he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in peace.

¹⁰ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. ¹¹ He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: And they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. ¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it." ¹³ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: And I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.

¹² And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: On the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

¹³ I will also destroy all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them.

²⁸ For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

²⁸ And you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be My people, and I will be your God.

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by books the number of the years, which came by the Word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would fulfill seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me:

⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I have also given him the wild beasts of the field to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish', said the LORD, 'with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. ⁹ Therefore do not listen to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, "You shall not serve the king of Babylon": ¹⁰ For they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and you should perish. ¹¹ But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those I will let remain still in their own land', said the LORD; 'and they shall till it, and dwell in it.' " ' "

¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity: For Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

³⁷ For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: On all the hands shall be cuttings, and on the loins sackcloth.

⁷ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will bring on Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and many people. ⁸ He shall slay your daughters in the field with the sword: And he shall make a fort against you, and cast a mount against you, and lift up the buckler shield against you. ⁹ And he shall set engines of war against your walls, and with his axes he shall break down your towers. ¹⁰ By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover you: Your walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into your gates, as men enter into a city in which is made a breach. ¹¹ With the hoofs of his horses he shall tread down all your streets: He shall slay your people by the sword, and your strong garrisons shall go down to the ground. ¹² And they shall make a spoil of your riches, and make a prey of your merchandise: And they shall break down your walls, and destroy your pleasant houses: And they shall lay your stones and your timber and your dust in the midst of the water.

⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you.

¹⁰ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. ¹¹ He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: And they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. ¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it."

²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put My sword in his hand: But I will break Pharaoh's arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man. ²⁵ But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.

¹¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'The sword of the king of Babylon shall come on you.

³⁰ And the LORD said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in executing that which is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets. ⁷ However, he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off not a few nations.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; ² I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut apart the bars of iron: ³ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.

¹⁰ The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven He shall thunder upon them: The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and He shall give strength to His king, and exalts the horn of His anointed."

¹⁵ O Lord, open my lips; and my mouth shall declare Your praise.

¹⁰ But You shall exalt my horn like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

¹⁷ There I will make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for My anointed.

¹⁴ He also exalts the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise the LORD.

⁶ He shall cause those that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

²⁶ And I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth, that you shall be dumb, and shall not be to them a reprover: For they are a rebellious house.

²⁷ In that day your mouth shall be opened to him who has escaped, and you shall speak, and be no more dumb: And you shall be a sign to them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.' "

²⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; "When I have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then they shall dwell in their land that I have given to My servant Jacob. ²⁶ And they shall dwell safely in it, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yes, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those who despise them around them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God." ' "

⁶ And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

¹⁶ And it shall no longer be the confidence of the house of Israel, who brings their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: But they shall know that I am the Lord GOD." ' "

²² Now the hand of the LORD was on me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until He came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

⁷ Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. ⁸ The lion has roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken, who can help but prophesy?

⁶⁹ and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to speak against nor resist.

³ praying together also for us, that God would open to us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains: ⁴ That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
