²² and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: For the LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

¹⁵ Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away leaven out of your houses: For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. ¹⁶ And on the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, except that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you. ¹⁷ And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for on this same day I have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: Therefore you shall observe this day in your generations by an ordinance forever. ¹⁸ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at sunset, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at sunset. ¹⁹ Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses: For whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall even be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. ²⁰ You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.

⁶ Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD. ⁷ Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall be no leavened bread seen with you, neither shall there be leaven seen with you in all your quarters.

²⁹ In his days Pharaohnechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: And king Josiah went against him; and Pharaohnechoh slew him at Megiddo, when he saw him.

²¹ And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: And the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments to the LORD.

¹¹ Why the LORD brought on them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

¹⁷ And the children of Israel that were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.

¹ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

⁶ Now therefore, Tatnai, governor beyond the river, Shetharboznai, and your companions the Apharsachites, which are beyond the river, be you far from there: ⁷ Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place. ⁸ Moreover I make a decree what you shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: That of the king's goods, even of the tribute beyond the river, immediately expenses be given to these men, that they be not hindered. ⁹ And that which they have need of, both young bulls, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the appointment of the priests which are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail: ¹⁰ That they may offer sacrifices of sweet smells to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons. ¹¹ Also I have made a decree, that whoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged on it; and let his house be made a dunghill for this. ¹² And the God that has caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people, that shall put to their hand to alter and to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with speed.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which has put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

¹ The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turns it wherever He will.

¹⁰ I will also bring them back again out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and not enough room shall be found for them. ¹¹ And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: And the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt shall depart away.

¹⁷ Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, "Where would you like that we prepare for You to eat the Passover?"

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me, unless it was given you from above: Therefore he that delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

⁷ Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: ⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
