³ Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? For spoiling and violence are before me: And there are things that raise up strife and contention.

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: For I have seen violence and strife in the city. ¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon its walls: Mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it. ¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst of it: Deceit and guile do not depart from her streets.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: They speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! ⁶ My soul has long dwelt with him who hates peace.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: And behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ "And like their bow they bend their tongues for lies: But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me", said the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone take heed of his neighbor, and do not trust in any brother: Forevery brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders. ⁵ And everyone will deceive his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: They have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me", said the LORD.

⁸ For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

For I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape-gleanings of the vintage: There is no cluster to eat: My soul desired the first ripe fruit. ² The good man has perished out of the earth: And there is none upright among men: They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man, his brother, with a net.good; or, godly, or, merciful ³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul ⁴ The best of them is as a brier: The most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: The day of your watchmen and your visitation comes; now shall be their perplexity.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

⁸ (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds);
