And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground." ¹⁰ O my threshing, and the grain of my floor: That which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you. ¹¹ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, "Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?" ¹² The watchman said, "The morning comes, and also the night: If all of you will inquire, inquire all of you: Return, come." ¹³ The burden on Arabia. You shall lodge in the forest in Arabia, O you traveling companies of Dedanim. ¹⁴ The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him who was thirsty, they met with their bread him that fled. ¹⁵ For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war. ¹⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail: ¹⁷ And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: For the LORD God of Israel has spoken it."

⁹ Out of the south comes the whirlwind: And cold out of the north.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land.

¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. ¹⁸ Their bows shall also dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.

²⁰ It shall never be inhabited, from generation to generation neither shall it be dwelled in: Neither shall the Arabian pitch his tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. ²¹ But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of sorrowful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. ²² And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: And her time has come near, and her days shall not be prolonged.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: And I will sweep it with the broom of destruction", says the LORD of hosts.

¹ The burden of Damascus. "Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

⁴² The sea has come up upon Babylon: She is covered with the multitude of its waves.

¹¹ He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: And they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain.

¹² And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: On the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from his shadow, and have left him.

⁴⁰ And at the time of the end the king of the south shall push at him: And the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

¹⁴ And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: And the LORD God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

¹³ As the proverb of the ancients says, 'Wickedness proceeds from the wicked': But my hand shall not be upon you.

⁵ "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise", says the LORD; "I will set him in safety from he that puffs at him."puffs at him; or, would ensnare him

³ You have showed Your people hard things: You have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

¹¹ Let the sighing of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are appointed to die;

¹ By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yes, we wept, when we remembered Zion. ² We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst of there. ³ For those that carried us away captive required a song from us there; and those that wasted us required mirth from us, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."

¹⁵ Good understanding gives favor: But the way of transgressors is hard.

² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness. ⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle.

¹ For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: And the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall join to the house of Jacob. ² And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: And the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: And they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. ³ And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard bondage in which you were made to serve,

⁶ And Elam bore the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, "My leanness, my leanness, woe to me! The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yes, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

¹ Woe to you who plunder, and you were not plundered; and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease to plunder, you shall be plundered; and when you make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

¹⁰ And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

⁶ I was angry with My people, I have polluted My inheritance, and given them into your hand: You showed them no mercy; upon the elderly you have laid your yoke very heavily.

¹¹ For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he. ¹² Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: And their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I earnestly do remember him still: Therefore My bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him", said the LORD.

²⁵ For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul."

³ 'You did say, "Woe is me now! For the LORD has added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest." '

³⁴ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,

¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon on every side: All you who bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: For she has sinned against the LORD.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³ Against him who bends let the archer bend his bow, and against him who lifts himself up in his brigandine: And do not spare her young men; utterly destroy all her host. ⁴ Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they who are thrust through in her streets.

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.

²⁷ Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz against her; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up like the rough locusts. ²⁸ Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, its captains, and all its rulers, and all the land of his dominion.

⁴⁴ And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up: And the nations shall not flow together to him any more: Yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

⁴⁸ Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for Babylon: For the spoilers shall come to her from the north", said the LORD. ⁴⁹ As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon the slain of all the earth shall fall.

⁵³ Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from Me shall spoilers come to her", said the LORD.

²² Let all their wickedness come before You; and do to them, as you have done to me for all my transgressions: For my sighs are many, and my heart is faint."

²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

²⁰ The ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause, and executes judgment for me: He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. ¹⁰ Then she that is my enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said to me, "Where is the LORD your God?" My eyes shall behold her: Now she shall be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

¹⁵ And I am very sorely displeased with the heathen that are at ease: For I was only a little displeased, and they helped advance the affliction." ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; "I have returned to Jerusalem with mercies: My house shall be built in it", says the LORD of hosts, "and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem." '

¹⁰ He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: He that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, "Would God it were even! And at sunset you shall say, "Would God it were morning! For the fear of your heart with which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.

⁶ Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁸ And they shall be afraid: Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: They shall be amazed at one another; their faces shall be as flames.

⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee to Zoar, a heifer of three years old: For by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping they shall go up it; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.

⁹ Therefore I will mourn with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: For battle shout has fallen over your summer fruits and your harvest.

¹¹ Therefore my heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kirharesh.

¹⁷ Like a woman with child, that draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and cries out in her pangs; so have we been in Your sight, O LORD.

⁴¹ Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab on that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

²² Behold, He shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread His wings over Bozrah: And on that day the heart of the mighty men of Edom shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: Anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. ⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosened, and his knees knocked against one another.

⁹ Now why do you cry out aloud? Is there no king in you? Has your counselor perished? For pangs have taken you as a woman in travail. ¹⁰ Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: For now you shall go forth out of the city, and you shall dwell in the field, and you shall even go to Babylon; there you shall be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

¹⁶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: When he comes up to the people, he will invade them with his troops.

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got him up on his mule, and fled.

¹² Haman said moreover, Yes, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow am I invited to her also with the king.

⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman." Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. ⁷ And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: And Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. ⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fell upon the bed on which Esther was. Then the king said, "Will he also force the queen before me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face. ⁹ And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, "Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman." Then the king said, "Hang him on it."50 Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures) is approximately 91.2 feet, or 27.8m; per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

⁵⁷ And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

³⁴ Also take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you when unaware. ³⁵ For it shall come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."

³² If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me, if the dead do not rise? "Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die."

¹⁷ And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a company. And Joram said, "Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, "Is it peace? ¹⁸ So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, "Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, "What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me. And the watchman told, saying, "The messenger came to them, but he comes not again. ¹⁹ Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, "Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What have you to do with peace? ⁶ I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem, they shall never hold their peace day nor night: You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent,

¹² Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: For the LORD has both devised and done that which He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon. ¹³ O you who dwell upon many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, and the measure of your covetousness.

¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: Therefore hear the word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me.

² "Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them, 'When I bring the sword on a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: ³ If when he sees the sword come upon the land, he blows the trumpet, and warns the people; ⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet, and does not take warning; if the sword comes, and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. ⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet, and did not take warning; his blood shall be on him. But he who takes warning shall deliver his soul. ⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come, and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned; if the sword comes, and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.' ⁷ So you, O son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the Word at My mouth, and warn them from Me.

¹ I will stand on my watch, and set myself upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. ² And the LORD answered me, and said, "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that reads it.

⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground."

²⁴ By your servants you have reproached the Lord, and have said, "By the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and its choice fir trees: And I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

¹ Therefore we ought to give more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

⁶ When I remember You on my bed, and meditate on You in the night watches.

¹ A Song of degrees for Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain that build it: Unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman remains awake in vain.

²⁹ Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: Yes, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: They are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

⁷ The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

³⁸ He has forsaken His covert, as the lion: For their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the Oppressor, and because of His fierce anger."

¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up from the swelling of Jordan like a lion against the habitation of the strong: But I will suddenly make him run away from her: And who is a chosen man, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?

⁴⁴ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan to the habitation of the strong: But I will make them suddenly run away from her: And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?"

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour:

¹⁹ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

⁴ that you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city ceased!"

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were on the beasts, and on the domestic beasts: Your carriages were heavy laden; they are a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but have themselves gone into captivity.

² "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.' ³ For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it: They shall move, they shall depart, both man and beast.

⁹ For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

³⁸ A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, and they are insane with their idols.

⁴² They shall hold the bow and the lance: They are cruel, and will not show mercy: Their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride on horses, everyone put in array like a man to the battle, against you O daughter of Babylon.

⁸ Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: Howl for her; take balm for her pain, it may be she be healed.

²⁷ Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz against her; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up like the rough locusts.

⁴⁷ Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment on the graven images of Babylon: And her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

⁵² "Therefore, behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will do judgment upon her graven images: And through all her land the wounded shall groan.

⁶⁴ And you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her: And they shall be weary.' " Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁸ And there followed another angel, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication."

² And he cried out mightily with a strong voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become the habitation of devils, and the prison-hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD said to me, that will I speak.

⁷ Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: You shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff. ¹⁶ You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: And you shall rejoice in the LORD, and shall glory in the Holy One of Israel.

³³ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor, it is time to thresh her: Yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: Therefore hear the word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. ¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. ¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

¹³ "Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: For I will make your horn iron, and I will make your hoofs brass: And you shall beat in pieces many people: And I will consecrate their gain to the LORD, and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth."

¹² You marched through the land in indignation, You threshed the heathen in anger.

¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

²⁶ Therefore I testify for the record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not shunned to declare to you all the counsel of God.

¹⁴ and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.

⁵ Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, "Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation of it."

⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees."

¹ Come near to hear, you nations; and listen, you people: Let the earth hear, and all that is in it; the world, and all things that come forth of it. ² For the indignation of the LORD is on all nations, and His fury on all their armies: He has utterly destroyed them, He has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain shall also be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and heaven shall be rolled together as a scroll: And all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven: Behold, it shall come down on Edom, and on the people of My curse, for judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bulls with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. ⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion. ⁹ And the streams of it shall be turned into pitch, and the dust of it into brimstone, and the land of it shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke of it shall go up forever: From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. ¹¹ But the pelican and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: And He shall stretch out on it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. ¹² They shall call the nobles of it to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses of it: And it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. ¹⁴ The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. ¹⁵ There the great owl shall make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: There the vultures shall also be gathered, every one with her mate. ¹⁶ Seek out of the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: For My mouth has commanded it, and His spirit has gathered them. ¹⁷ And He has cast the lot for them, and His hand has divided it to them by line: They shall possess it forever, from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

¹ Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This one who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength? "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." ² Why are you red in your apparel, and your garments like him who treads in the winefat? ³ "I have trodden the winepress alone; and from the people there was no one with me: For I will tread them in My anger, and trample them in My fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled on My garments, and I will stain all My clothing. ⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. ⁵ And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold: Therefore My own arm brought salvation to Me; and My fury, it upheld Me. ⁶ And I will tread down the people in My anger, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹⁷ then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: And the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" And Jeremiah said, "There is": For He said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon."

⁷ Concerning Edom, thus says the LORD of hosts; "Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished? ⁸ Flee, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I will visit him. ⁹ If grape gatherers come to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, they will destroy until they have enough. ¹⁰ But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: His seed is spoiled, and his brothers, and his neighbors, and he is no more. ¹¹ Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in Me." ¹² For thus says the LORD; "Behold, those whose judgment was to not drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and are you he who shall go altogether unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it. ¹³ For I have sworn by Myself", said the LORD, "that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes." ¹⁴ I have heard a rumor from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent to the heathen, saying, "Gather together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. ¹⁵ For lo, I will make you small among the heathen, and despised among men. ¹⁶ Your terribleness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there", said the LORD. ¹⁷ "Also Edom shall be a desolation: Everyone who goes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all her plagues. ¹⁸ As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities", said the LORD, "no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it. ¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up from the swelling of Jordan like a lion against the habitation of the strong: But I will suddenly make him run away from her: And who is a chosen man, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me? ²⁰ Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Edom; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: Surely He shall make their habitations desolate with them. ²¹ The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, the noise of her cry was heard in the Red sea. ²² Behold, He shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread His wings over Bozrah: And on that day the heart of the mighty men of Edom shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, ³ and say to it, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you, and I will stretch out My hand against you, and I will make you most desolate. ⁴ I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate, and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁵ Because you have had a perpetual hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end: ⁶ Therefore, as I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you: Since you have not hated blood, even blood shall pursue you. ⁷ Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it he who passes out and he who returns. ⁸ And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: In your hills, and in your valleys, and in all your rivers, those who are slain with the sword shall fall. ⁹ I will make you perpetual desolations, and your cities shall not return: And you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁰ Because you have said, 'These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it'; although the LORD was there: ¹¹ Therefore, as I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will even do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have used against them out of your hatred; and I will make Myself known among them, when I have judged you. ¹² And you shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, 'They are laid desolate, they are given to us to consume.' ¹³ Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me, and have multiplied your words against Me: I have heard them." ¹⁴ Thus says the Lord GOD; "When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. ¹⁵ As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will do to you: You shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: And they shall know that I am the LORD." ' "

¹⁹ Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

¹¹ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and laid aside all pity, and his anger tore in pieces perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever: ¹² But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah."

¹ The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumor from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, "Arise, and let us rise up against her in battle." ² Behold, I have made you small among the heathen: You are greatly despised. ³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, 'Who shall bring me down to the ground?' ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there", says the LORD. ⁵ If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, (how you are cut off!) would they not have stolen until they had enough? If the grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes?some grapes; or, some gleanings ⁶ How the things of Esau are searched out! How his hidden things are sought for up and down! ⁷ All the men of your confederacy have brought you even to the border: The men that were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you; that they eat your bread have laid a wound under you: There is no understanding in him.in him; or, of it ⁸ Shall I not in that day even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?", says the LORD. ⁹ "And your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter. ¹⁰ Shame shall cover you for your violence against your brother Jacob, and you shall be cut off forever. ¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried his forces away captive, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. ¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.spoken proudly: In Hebrew, magnified your mouth ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; yes, you should not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;substance; or, forces ¹⁴ neither should you have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: As you have done, it shall be done to you: Your recompense shall return upon your own head. ¹⁶ For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yes, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.swallow down; or, sup up

² "I have loved you", says the LORD. "Yet you all say, 'In what have You loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" says the LORD: "Yet I loved Jacob, ³ and I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage desolate for the dragons of the wilderness."desolate: In KJV, waste ⁴ Yet when Edom says, "We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places"; thus says the LORD of hosts, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, 'The border of wickedness', and, 'The people against whom the LORD has indignation forever.'

¹⁴ And behold at time of evening trouble; and before the morning he is no more. This is the portion of those who spoil us, and the lot of those that rob us.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹⁹ The LORD has said concerning you, O you remnant of Judah; 'Go not into Egypt': Know certainly that I have admonished you this day. ²⁰ For you dissembled in your hearts, when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, 'Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, "so declare to us, and we will do it.' ²¹ And now this day I have declared it to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor anything for which He has sent me to you. ²² Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go and to sojourn."

²⁷ Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.

⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, an evil, a one of a kind evil, has come. ⁶ An end has come, the end has come: It watches for you; behold, it has come. ⁷ The morning has come to you, O you who dwell in the land: The time has come, the day of trouble is near, and not the joyful sounds of the mountains again.

¹⁰ Behold the day, behold, it has come: The morning has gone forth; the rod has blossomed, pride has budded.

¹² The time has come, the day draws near: Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: For wrath is upon all their multitude.

¹ Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me, and sat before me. ² And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ³ "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: Should I be inquired of by them at all? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him who comes according to the multitude of his idols; ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from Me through their idols." ' ⁶ "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away all your transgressions from you, by which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: For why will you die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies", said the Lord GOD: "therefore turn yourselves, and live."

³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" ³⁸ Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹ And they took him, and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? ²⁰ For you bring some strange things to our ears: We would like therefore to know what these things mean."

³⁰ Indeed, the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent: ³¹ Because He has appointed a day, in which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He has ordained; of which He has given assurance to all men, in that He has raised Him from the dead." ³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: And others said, "We will hear you again on this matter."

³ And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

¹⁵ beside that he had of the merchants, and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.

⁹ And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabta, and Raamah, and Sabtecha. And the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

³² Now the sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: She bore Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. And the sons of Jokshan; Sheba, and Dedan.

²⁰ It shall never be inhabited, from generation to generation neither shall it be dwelled in: Neither shall the Arabian pitch his tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,

²⁸ Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite", thus says the LORD; "Arise, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east. ²⁹ They shall take away their tents and their flocks: They shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry to them, Fear is on every side. ³⁰ Flee, go far away, dwell deep, O you inhabitants of Hazor", said the LORD; "for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you. ³¹ Arise, go up to the wealthy nation, who dwells without care", said the LORD, "which has neither gates nor bars, which dwells alone. ³² And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their domestic beasts a spoil: And I will scatter into all winds those who are in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides of it", said the LORD. ³³ "And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and a desolation forever: No man shall abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it."

¹⁵ The men of Dedan were your merchants; many isles were the merchandise of your hand: They brought you horns of ivory and ebony for a present.

²⁰ Dedan was your merchant in precious clothes for chariots. ²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with you in lambs, and rams, and goats: In these they were your merchants.

²⁵ For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to that which is now Jerusalem, and is in bondage with her children.

¹⁵ Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

⁴ And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them. ⁵ And he said to the men of Succoth, Give, I implore you, loaves of bread to the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian. ⁶ And the princes of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army? ⁷ And Gideon said, "Therefore when the LORD has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers. ⁸ And he went up there to Penuel, and spoke to them likewise: And the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

¹⁹ The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink:

³ Take counsel, execute judgment; make your shadow as the night in the middle of the noonday; hide the outcasts; do not expose him who wanders. ⁴ Let my outcasts dwell with you, Moab; you shall be a shelter to them from the face of the spoiler: For the extortionist is at an end, the spoiler ceases, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.

²⁰ Therefore "If your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him a drink: For in so doing you shall heap coals of fire upon his head."

⁹ Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

¹⁹ The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰ They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.

¹⁴ And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man takes shepherds: Every man shall turn to his own people, and everyone flee into his own land.

¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

²⁹ These are their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

¹ Is there not an appointed time to man on earth? Are not his days also like the days of a hireling?

⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

⁵ I am black, but comely, O you daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

¹⁴ But now the LORD has spoken, saying, "Within three years, as the years of a hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be despised, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble."

¹¹ Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits: Let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you: They shall come up on My altar with acceptance, and I will glorify the house of My glory.

²⁸ Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite", thus says the LORD; "Arise, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east.

²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with you in lambs, and rams, and goats: In these they were your merchants.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: Has he said, "and shall he not do it? Or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

³⁹ Again, they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may list them.

⁴ "And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean. ⁵ And it shall be as when the harvestman gathers the grain, and reaps the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he who gathers ears in the valley of Rephaim.

²⁹ And this shall be a sign to you', said the LORD, 'that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil':

⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? And they returned and said, 'As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, in this manner He has dealt with us.' "

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away: But My words shall not pass away.
