¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; ² which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened. ⁴ And the LORD has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but you have not listened, nor inclined your ear to hear. ⁵ They said, 'All of you turn now again, everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and to your fathers forever and ever: ⁶ And do not go after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no harm.' ⁷ Yet you have not listened to Me", said the LORD; "that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt. ⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts; 'Because you have not heard My words, ⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. ¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' " ¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." ' ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: For I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth", said the LORD of hosts.' ³⁰ Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and say to them, 'The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar on His habitation; He shall give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, He will plead with all flesh; He will give those who are wicked to the sword', said the LORD." ³² Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the borders of the earth. ³³ And on that day the slain of the LORD shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth: They shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground. ³⁴ Howl, all of you shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, you principal of the flock: For the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and you shall fall like a pleasant vessel. ³⁵ And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. ³⁶ A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: For the LORD has spoiled their pasture. ³⁷ And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD. ³⁸ He has forsaken His covert, as the lion: For their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the Oppressor, and because of His fierce anger."

¹ In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: Then he turned and rebelled against him. ² And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

¹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

¹ In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and besieged it.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all you people; give ear, you inhabitants of the world: ² Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

¹¹ Now therefore go to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, speak to the men of Judah, saying, 'Thus says the LORD; "Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: All of you return now, everyone, from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good." ' "

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah came from Tophet, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD's house; and said to all the people, ¹⁵ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear My words.' "

² "Thus says the LORD; 'Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them; diminish not a word:

¹³ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, "Will you not receive instruction to listen to My words?" said the LORD.

¹ Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken to all the people, saying, ² "Thus says the LORD, 'He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: But he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.'

¹⁴ And when He had called all the people to Himself, He said to them, "Hearken to Me, everyone of you, and understand: ¹⁵ There is nothing from outside a man, which entering into him can defile him: But the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile the man.

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.

²⁰ And the LORD said to Moses, "Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; look, he comes forth to the water; and say to him, 'Thus says the LORD, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

³ And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.

⁸ Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

¹³ Oh, that My people had hearkened to Me, and Israel had walked in My ways!

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

¹³ And now, because you have done all these works", said the LORD, "and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear; and I called you, but you did not answer;

⁷ For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, "Obey my voice."

⁴ And the LORD has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but you have not listened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

⁵ to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I sent to you, both rising up early, and sending them, but you have not listened;

¹⁹ Because they have not listened to My words', said the LORD, 'which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear', said the LORD.

¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return now each man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers': But you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to Me.

⁴ However, I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, "Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate."

³⁵ Then in the morning, rising up a long while before daylight, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and prayed there.

² And early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down, and taught them.

⁴⁷ He that is of God hears God's words: Therefore you do not hear them, because you are not of God."

² Preach the word; be at hand in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁴ But they did not listen, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. ²⁵ Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: ²⁶ Yet they did not listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: They did worse than their fathers.

⁷ For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, "Obey my voice." ⁸ Yet they did not obey, nor inclined their ear, but everyone walked in the imagination of their evil heart: Therefore I will bring on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: But they did not do them.' " ⁹ And the LORD said to me, "A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁰ They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear My words; and they went after other gods to serve them: The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers."

¹⁰ This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall be like even this girdle, which is good for nothing. ¹¹ For as the girdle sticks to the loins of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to stick to Me', said the LORD; 'that they might be for a people to Me, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: But they would not hear.'

¹² and you have done worse than your fathers; for behold, all of you walk after the imagination of his evil heart, everyone, that they may not listen to Me:

²³ But they did not obey, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.

¹² And they said, "There is no hope: But we will walk after our own devices, and we will, everyone, do the imagination of his evil heart."

¹⁵ "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear My words.' "

²¹ I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, 'I will not hear.' This has been your manner from your youth, that you have not obeyed My voice.

³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened.

⁷ Yet you have not listened to Me", said the LORD; "that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

³³ And they have turned the back to Me, and not the face: Though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

¹⁴ "The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for to this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: Notwithstanding I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened to Me. ¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return now each man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers': But you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to Me.

³¹ And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they did not listen." ' "

⁴ However, I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, "Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate." ⁵ But they did not listen, nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in His Spirit by the former prophets: Therefore a great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if those who refused 'Him that spoke on earth' did not escape, much more we shall not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven:

⁸ And I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. ¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

¹⁰ and confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: ¹¹ Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:"

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

⁷ Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, forever and ever.

²⁵ then there shall enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: And this city shall remain forever.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

¹¹ Say to them, 'As I live', said the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: Turn yourself, turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?'

⁸ But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God: Yes, let everyone turn from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. ⁹ Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we do not perish?" ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do to them; and He did not do it.

⁴ "Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings, all of you" ': But they did not hear, nor hearken to Me", says the LORD. ⁵ "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

³ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, do you think that they were sinners more than all other men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish."

²⁰ But brought word first to those of Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy for repentance.

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.

³ You shall have no other gods before Me.

²³ You shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall you make for yourself gods of gold.

¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are all around you;

¹⁹ And it shall be, if you do at all forget the LORD your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.

² and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them;

¹⁴ And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand side, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

²⁰ If you forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he has done you good.

⁴ For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: And his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. ⁵ For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. ⁶ And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. ⁷ Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. ⁸ And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods. ⁹ And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared to him twice, ¹⁰ and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: But he kept not that which the LORD commanded.

²² And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

³⁵ with whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, "You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know;

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁵ because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even to this day.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their backs, and slew your prophets which testified against them to turn them to you, and they worked great provocations.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: All those that hate me love death."

¹⁸ The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. ¹⁹ Do they provoke Me to anger?" said the LORD: "do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?"

³⁰ For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before Me from their youth: For the children of Israel have only provoked Me to anger with the work of their hands', said the LORD. ³¹ 'For this city has been to Me as a provocation of My anger and of My fury from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before My face, ³² because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ³³ And they have turned the back to Me, and not the face: Though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword on you, that shall avenge the quarrel of My covenant: And when you are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: And you shall eat, and not be satisfied. ²⁷ And if you will not for all this listen to me, but walk contrary to me; ²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. ²⁹ And you shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall you eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. ³¹ And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the smell of your sweet odors. ³² And I will bring the land into desolation: And your enemies which dwell in it shall be astonished at it. ³³ And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: And your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste. ³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her Sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate, and you be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her Sabbaths. ³⁵ As long as it lies desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your Sabbaths, when you dwelled on it. ³⁶ And on them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursues. ³⁷ And they shall fall one on another, as it were before a sword, when none pursues: And you shall have no power to stand before your enemies. ³⁸ And you shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. ³⁹ And those that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. ⁴⁰ If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me; ⁴¹ and that I also have walked contrary to them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: ⁴² Then will I remember My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her Sabbaths, while she lies desolate without them: And they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred My statutes. ⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break My covenant with them: For I am the LORD their God. ⁴⁵ But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD. ⁴⁶ These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

⁴⁵ Moreover all these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you, and overtake you, till you be destroyed; because you did not hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which he commanded you: ⁴⁶ And they shall be upon you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever. ⁴⁷ Because you served not the LORD your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; ⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he have destroyed you. ⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young:

⁷ Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: ⁸ And at this house, which is high, everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land, and to this house?

¹ The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turns it wherever He will.

²⁶ And He will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss to them from the end of the earth: And behold, they shall come swiftly with speed: ²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the lace of their shoes be broken: ²⁸ Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: ²⁹ Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: Yes, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it. ³⁰ And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: And if one look to the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in its heavens.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of My anger, and the staff in their hand is My indignation.

³ I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness.

⁷ And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shall beget, they shall take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

²⁸ Who said of Cyrus, "He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure": Even saying to Jerusalem, "You shall be built"; and to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid."

¹⁵ For lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north", said the LORD; "and they shall come, and they shall each one set his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.

¹⁵ See, I will bring a nation from afar upon you, O house of Israel", said the LORD: "it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, neither can you understand what they say. ¹⁶ Their quiver is as an open sepulcher, they are all mighty men.

¹ O you children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: For evil appears out of the north, and great destruction.

²² Thus says the LORD, "Behold, a people comes from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth. ²³ They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, as men of war set in array against you, O daughter of Zion. ²⁴ We have heard the fame of it: Our hands wax feeble: Anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail. ²⁵ Do not go forth into the field, nor walk by the road; for the sword of the enemy and fear are on every side. ²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes: Make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: For the spoiler shall come on us suddenly.

¹⁶ The snorting of His horses was heard from Dan: The whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of His strong ones; for they have come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell in it.

¹⁶ to make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and wag his head.

⁹ And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.

¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

³ and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah; ⁴ and command them to say to their masters, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus you shall say to your masters; ⁵ 'I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me. ⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I have also given him the wild beasts of the field to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish', said the LORD, 'with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

² And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, "The LORD your God has pronounced this evil on this place.

¹⁰ and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

⁷ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will bring on Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and many people.

¹⁸ "Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: Yet he had no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it: ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor with which he served against it, because they worked for Me', said the Lord GOD.

¹⁰ Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. ¹¹ He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: And they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain.

⁶ For lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not their's. ⁷ They are terrible and dreadful: Their judgment and their dignity shall proceed from themselves. ⁸ Their horses are also swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: And their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from afar; they shall fly as the eagle that hastens to eat. ⁹ They shall all come for violence: Their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. ¹⁰ And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn to them: They shall deride every stronghold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

¹³ And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

⁴ For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for servants and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage."

¹¹ In these letters the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,

² while the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, are not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: ³ In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened, ⁴ and the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of tambourine ceases, the noise of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: Every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

³⁴ Then I will cause the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem: For the land shall be desolate."

⁹ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will cause the voice of mirth to cease out of this place before your eyes, and in your days, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

¹⁰ Thus says the LORD; 'Again there shall be heard in this place, which you say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast, ¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: For the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever": And of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first', said the LORD.

¹³ And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall no longer be heard.

¹¹ I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her Sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

²² And the voice of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters shall not be heard any more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he is, shall be found anymore in you; and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard any more at all in you; ²³ and the light of a candle shall not shine any more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall not be heard any more at all in you: For your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived.

²¹ To fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: For as long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfill three score and ten years. ²² Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

¹⁵ And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: After the end of seventy years Tyre shall sing as a harlot. ¹⁶ Take a harp, go about the city, you harlot that has been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that you may be remembered. ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.

²⁷ For thus has the LORD said, "The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end of it.

¹¹ They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourns to Me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man takes it to heart. ¹² The spoilers have come on all high places through the wilderness: For the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: No flesh shall have peace.

¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

² in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by books the number of the years, which came by the Word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would fulfill seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

¹² Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, "O LORD of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You have had indignation these past seventy years?"

⁵ "Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, 'When you all fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did you all really fast to Me at all, even to Me?

³⁵ To me belongs vengeance and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: For the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. ³⁶ For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. ³⁷ And he shall say, "Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted, ³⁸ which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. ³⁹ See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: Neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. ⁴⁰ For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, "I live forever. ⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those that hate me. ⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges on the enemy.

¹ In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: Then he turned and rebelled against him.

¹ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, ² thus said Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. ² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness. ⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land. ⁶ Howl all of you; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. ⁷ Therefore all hands shall be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: ⁸ And they shall be afraid: Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: They shall be amazed at one another; their faces shall be as flames. ⁹ Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: And He shall destroy its sinners out of it. ¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and their constellations shall not give light: The sun shall be darkened in His going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. ¹¹ And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. ¹² I will make a man more precious than fine gold; a man even more than the golden wedge of Ophir. ¹³ Therefore I will shake heaven, and the earth shall move out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of His fierce anger. ¹⁴ And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man takes shepherds: Every man shall turn to his own people, and everyone flee into his own land.

¹⁹ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: And I will sweep it with the broom of destruction", says the LORD of hosts.

⁶ For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: For the hay is withered away, the grass fails, there is no green thing.

¹ In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him), and fought against Ashdod, and took it; ² at the same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, "Go and loose the sackcloth from off your loins, and put off your shoe from your foot." And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. ³ And the LORD said, "As like my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and wonder on Egypt and on Ethiopia; ⁴ so shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptian's prisoners, and the Ethiopian's captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. ⁵ And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory. ⁶ And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, 'Behold, such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: And how shall we escape?' "

¹ The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it comes from the desert, from a terrible land. ² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease. ³ Therefore my loins are filled with pain: Pangs have taken hold of me, as the pangs of a woman that travails: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees." ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with much heed: ⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights: ⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground." ¹⁰ O my threshing, and the grain of my floor: That which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you. ¹¹ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, "Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?" ¹² The watchman said, "The morning comes, and also the night: If all of you will inquire, inquire all of you: Return, come." ¹³ The burden on Arabia. You shall lodge in the forest in Arabia, O you traveling companies of Dedanim. ¹⁴ The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him who was thirsty, they met with their bread him that fled. ¹⁵ For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war. ¹⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail: ¹⁷ And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: For the LORD God of Israel has spoken it."

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were on the beasts, and on the domestic beasts: Your carriages were heavy laden; they are a burden to the weary beast.

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: There is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For no more shall you be called tender and delicate.

² Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed My people; "You have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: Behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings", said the LORD.

¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' "

¹⁰ For thus says the LORD, 'That after seventy years are accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

¹ The word that the LORD spoke against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet. ² "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.' ³ For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it: They shall move, they shall depart, both man and beast. ⁴ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: They shall go, and seek the LORD their God. ⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces towards it, saying, 'Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.' ⁶ My people have been lost sheep: Their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away upon the mountains: They have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place. ⁷ All who found them have devoured them: And their adversaries said, 'We do not offend, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.' ⁸ Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks. ⁹ For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. ¹⁰ And Chaldea shall be a spoil: All that spoil her shall be satisfied", said the LORD. ¹¹ "Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage, because you have grown fat like a heifer in the grass, and bellow like bulls; ¹² your mother shall be greatly confounded; she who bore you shall be ashamed: Behold, the last of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. ¹³ Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. ¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon on every side: All you who bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: For she has sinned against the LORD. ¹⁵ Shout against her from every side: She has given her hand: Her foundations have fallen, her walls are thrown down: For it is the vengeance of the LORD: Take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her. ¹⁶ Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest: For fear of the oppressing sword everyone shall turn to his people, and everyone shall flee to his own land. ¹⁷ Israel is as scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: First the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones." ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. ¹⁹ And I will bring Israel to his habitation again, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon Mount Ephraim and Gilead. ²⁰ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: For I will pardon them whom I preserve. ²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: Waste and utterly destroy after them", said the LORD, "and do according to all that I have commanded you. ²² A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. ²³ How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! ²⁴ I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, O Babylon, and you were not aware: You are found, and also caught, because you have strived against the LORD. ²⁵ The LORD has opened His armory, and has brought forth the weapons of His indignation: For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: Cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: Let nothing be left of her. ²⁷ Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation. ²⁸ The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple. ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. ³⁰ Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day", said the LORD. ³¹ "Behold, I am against you, O you most proud", said the Lord GOD of hosts: "for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. ³² And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him." ³³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: And all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. ³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. ³⁵ A sword is upon the Chaldeans", said the LORD, "and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. ³⁶ A sword is upon the liars; and they shall become fools: A sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. ³⁷ A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: A sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. ³⁸ A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, and they are insane with their idols. ³⁹ Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell in it: And it shall no longer be inhabited forever; neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation. ⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities", said the LORD; "so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell in it. ⁴¹ Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the borders of the earth. ⁴² They shall hold the bow and the lance: They are cruel, and will not show mercy: Their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride on horses, everyone put in array like a man to the battle, against you O daughter of Babylon. ⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: Anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail. ⁴⁴ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan to the habitation of the strong: But I will make them suddenly run away from her: And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?" ⁴⁵ Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that He has taken against Babylon; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: Surely He shall make their habitation desolate with them. ⁴⁶ At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

²⁴ And I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight", said the LORD. ²⁵ "Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain", said the LORD, "which destroys all the earth: And I will stretch out My hand upon you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain. ²⁶ And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate forever", said the LORD.

⁶² then you shall say, 'O LORD, you have spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate forever.' ⁶³ And it shall be, when you have made an end of reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the middle of Euphrates: ⁶⁴ And you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her: And they shall be weary.' " Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁹ I will make you perpetual desolations, and your cities shall not return: And you shall know that I am the LORD.

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. ⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. ⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosened, and his knees knocked against one another. ⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." ⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in: But they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation of it. ⁹ Then king Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonished. ¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords: And the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever: Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed. ¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, "your father made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; ¹² in as much as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and explaining of hard sentences, and the dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation." ¹³ Then Daniel was brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel, which is of the children of captivity of Judah, whom my father the king brought out of Judah? ¹⁴ I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. ¹⁵ And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it: But they could not show the interpretation of the thing: ¹⁶ And I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: Now if you can read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it, you shall be clothed with scarlet and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." ¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation. ¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor: ¹⁹ And for the majesty that He gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: He slew whom he would, and he kept alive whom he would; and he set up whom he would; and he put down whom he would. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was disposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appoints over it whomever He will. ²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified: ²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from Him; and this writing was written. ²⁵ And this is the writing that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. ²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

¹ I will stand on my watch, and set myself upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. ² And the LORD answered me, and said, "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that reads it. ³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. ⁴ Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: But the just shall live by his faith. ⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people: ⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them? ⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. ¹² Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! ¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves in quest of much vanity? ¹⁴ For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁵ Woe to him that gives his neighbor drink, that puts your bottle to him, and also makes him drunk, that you may look on their nakedness! ¹⁶ You are filled with shame for glory: Drink also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: The cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned toward you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory. ¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ¹⁸ What profits the graven image that its maker has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols? ¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. ²⁰ But the LORD is in His holy temple: Let all the earth keep silence before Him."

¹ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was instantaneously illuminated with his glory. ² And he cried out mightily with a strong voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become the habitation of devils, and the prison-hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. ³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies." ⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you are not partakers of her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues. ⁵ For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. ⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her two-fold more according to her works: With the cup which she has filled, pour out to her double. ⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.' ⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her. ⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all fragrant wood, and all sorts of ivory vessels, and all sorts of most precious wood vessels, and of brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and incense, and fragrant ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after have departed from you, and all things which were dainty and gorgeous have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! ¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like this great city!' ¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich because of her costliness! For in one hour she is made desolate. ²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her." ²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. ²² And the voice of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters shall not be heard any more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he is, shall be found anymore in you; and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard any more at all in you; ²³ and the light of a candle shall not shine any more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall not be heard any more at all in you: For your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived. ²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth."

⁵ "Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations."

¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant."

²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

¹¹ And he said to me, "You must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings."

⁸ O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed; he shall be happy who recompenses you as you have bestowed upon us.

² And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: And the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: And they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; ² I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut apart the bars of iron: ³ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.

⁶ A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that renders recompense to His enemies.

⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him.

⁶ Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: Be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; He will render to her a recompense.

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers. ²⁴ And I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight", said the LORD. ²⁵ "Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain", said the LORD, "which destroys all the earth: And I will stretch out My hand upon you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain. ²⁶ And they shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate forever", said the LORD. ²⁷ Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz against her; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up like the rough locusts. ²⁸ Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, its captains, and all its rulers, and all the land of his dominion.

³⁵ The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon", shall the inhabitant of Zion say; "and my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea", shall Jerusalem say. ³⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry. ³⁷ And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant. ³⁸ They shall roar together like lions: They shall yell as lions' whelps. ³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the LORD. ⁴⁰ "I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he-goats. ⁴¹ How is Sheshach taken! And how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! How has Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

²⁰ His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

⁶ Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: This shall be the portion of their cup.

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He pours out of the same: But its dregs, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk the cup of his fury at the hand of the LORD; you have drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

²² Thus said your Lord the LORD, and your God that pleads the cause of His people, "Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you shall no more drink it again:

¹² Therefore you shall speak to them this word; 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel, "Every bottle shall be filled with wine" ': And they shall say to you, 'Do we not know certainly that every bottle shall be filled with wine?' ¹³ Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit on David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. ¹⁴ And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together", said the LORD: "I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them." ' "

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, who made all the earth drunk: The nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

¹⁹ Then the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the large winepress of the wrath of God.

²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." '

³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the LORD.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, HJe has made me drunk with wormwood.

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwell in the land of Uz; the cup shall also pass through to you: You shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked.

³² Thus says the Lord GOD; "You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and large: You shall be laughed to scorn and held in derision; it contains much. ³³ You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria. ³⁴ You shall even drink it and suck it out, and you shall break its shards, and pluck off your own breasts: For I have spoken it", said the Lord GOD.

¹¹ You also shall be drunken: You shall be hid, you also shall seek strength because of the enemy.

⁸ And there followed another angel, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication."

⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which has power over these plagues: And they did not repent to give Him glory. ¹⁰ And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues out of pain, ¹¹ and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink.

³ and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah;

¹⁸ As for all of you, at the very least keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest you all make yourselves accursed, when you all take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

²⁴ Who have kept with your servant David my father that you promised him: You spoke also with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is this day.

¹⁹ Because your heart was tender, and you have humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before Me; I also have heard you", says the LORD.

⁷ Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it:

³ You have showed Your people hard things: You have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

³ and say, "Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'Behold, I will bring evil on this place, for which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle. ⁴ Because they have forsaken Me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; ⁵ they have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not commanded, nor spoke it, neither did it come into My mind: ⁶ Therefore, behold, the days come', said the LORD, 'that this place shall no longer be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter. ⁷ And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of those who seek their lives: And I will give their carcasses to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the wild beasts of the earth. ⁸ And I will make this city desolate, and a hissing; everyone who passes by it shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues. ⁹ And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his friend in the siege and narrow place, with which their enemies, and they who seek their lives, shall straiten them.

⁶ And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: They shall die of a great pestilence. ⁷ And afterward", said the LORD, "I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: And he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy." ' ⁸ And to this people you shall say, 'Thus says the LORD; "Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. ⁹ He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: But he who goes out, and falls to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey. ¹⁰ For I have set My face against this city for evil, and not for good", said the LORD: "it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire." '

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

²² So that the LORD could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed; therefore your land is a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

⁵ And to the others He said in my hearing, "Go after him through the city, and smite: Do not let your eye spare, neither have pity: ⁶ Utterly slay old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: But do not come near any man on whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary." Then they began at the elderly men who were before the house. ⁷ And he said to them, "Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: Go forth." And they went forth, and slew in the city. ⁸ And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, "Ah Lord GOD! Will You destroy all the residue of Israel in Your pouring out of Your fury on Jerusalem?"

¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: For under the whole heaven it has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

⁵ But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

² "I have known only you of all the families of the earth: Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

¹⁷ For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God: And if it begins first with us, what shall be the end of those that do not obey the gospel of God?

¹ In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: ³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.' ⁴ But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: You shall fall upon the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you to the wild beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven for meat. ⁶ And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ⁷ When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke, and rend all their shoulder: And when they leaned upon you, you broke, and made all their loins to be at a stand." ⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you. ⁹ And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: Because he has said, 'The river is mine, and I have made it.' ¹⁰ Behold, therefore I am against you, and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even to the border of Ethiopia. ¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. ¹² And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be desolate forty years among the cities that are laid waste: And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries." ¹³ Yet thus says the Lord GOD; "At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the people where they were scattered: ¹⁴ And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be a lowly kingdom there. ¹⁵ It shall be the lowest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself above the nations any more: For I will diminish them, that they shall no longer rule over the nations. ¹⁶ And it shall no longer be the confidence of the house of Israel, who brings their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: But they shall know that I am the Lord GOD." ' " ¹⁷ And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ¹⁸ "Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: Yet he had no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it: ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor with which he served against it, because they worked for Me', said the Lord GOD. ²¹ In that day I will cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give you the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.' "

¹⁷ The sons of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech.

²³ In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab: ²⁴ And their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people. ²⁵ And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, "You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters to your sons, or for yourselves. ²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: Nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin. ²⁷ Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

¹ In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him), and fought against Ashdod, and took it;

²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,

¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;" ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will stretch out My hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. ¹⁷ And I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay My vengeance on them." ' "

⁵ Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land who are in league, shall fall by the sword with them."

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: ⁷ But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, which shall devour its palaces: ⁸ And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and from him of Ashkelon that holds the scepter, and I will turn My hand against Ekron: And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish", says the Lord GOD.

⁴ For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: They shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. ⁵ Woe to the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, "I will even destroy you, that there shall be no inhabitants left." ⁶ And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. ⁷ And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed there: In the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down in the evening: For the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.

⁵ Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. ⁶ "And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. ⁷ And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: But he that remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, "Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation of it."

Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; ² he has gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: On all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off. ³ In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth: On the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall howl, weeping abundantly. ⁴ And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: Their voice shall be heard even to Jahaz: Therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous to him. ⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee to Zoar, a heifer of three years old: For by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping they shall go up it; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction. ⁶ For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: For the hay is withered away, the grass fails, there is no green thing. ⁷ Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, they shall carry away to the brook of the willows. ⁸ For the cry is gone all around the borders of Moab; its howling to Eglaim, and the howling of it to Beerelim. ⁹ For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: For I will bring more on Dimon, lions upon him who escapes from Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.

¹⁰ For the hand of the LORD shall rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trodden down under Him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

¹ Come near to hear, you nations; and listen, you people: Let the earth hear, and all that is in it; the world, and all things that come forth of it. ² For the indignation of the LORD is on all nations, and His fury on all their armies: He has utterly destroyed them, He has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain shall also be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and heaven shall be rolled together as a scroll: And all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven: Behold, it shall come down on Edom, and on the people of My curse, for judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bulls with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. ⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion. ⁹ And the streams of it shall be turned into pitch, and the dust of it into brimstone, and the land of it shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke of it shall go up forever: From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. ¹¹ But the pelican and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: And He shall stretch out on it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. ¹² They shall call the nobles of it to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses of it: And it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. ¹⁴ The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. ¹⁵ There the great owl shall make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: There the vultures shall also be gathered, every one with her mate. ¹⁶ Seek out of the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: For My mouth has commanded it, and His spirit has gathered them. ¹⁷ And He has cast the lot for them, and His hand has divided it to them by line: They shall possess it forever, from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

¹ Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This one who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength? "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." ² Why are you red in your apparel, and your garments like him who treads in the winefat? ³ "I have trodden the winepress alone; and from the people there was no one with me: For I will tread them in My anger, and trample them in My fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled on My garments, and I will stain all My clothing. ⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. ⁵ And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold: Therefore My own arm brought salvation to Me; and My fury, it upheld Me. ⁶ And I will tread down the people in My anger, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

²⁶ egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all who are in the utmost corners, who dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart."

¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Woe to Nebo! For it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed. ² There shall be no more praise of Moab: In Heshbon they have devised evil against it; 'Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation.' Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you. ³ A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, 'Spoiling and great destruction.' ⁴ Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard. ⁵ For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction. ⁶ Flee, save your lives, and be like the juniper in the wilderness. ⁷ For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be taken: And Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together. ⁸ And the spoiler shall come on every city, and no city shall escape: The valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. ⁹ Give wings to Moab, that it may flee and get away: For its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them. ¹⁰ Cursed be he who does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he who keeps back his sword from blood. ¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. ¹² Therefore, behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will send to him wanderers, who shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles. ¹³ And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence. ¹⁴ How can you say, 'We are mighty and strong men for the war'? ¹⁵ Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. ¹⁶ "The calamity of Moab is coming near, and his affliction hastens fast. ¹⁷ All you who are about him, bemoan him; and all you who know his name, say, 'How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod!' ¹⁸ You daughter who inhabits Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come on you, and he shall destroy your strongholds. ¹⁹ O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him who flees, and her who escapes, and say, 'What is done?' ²⁰ Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: Howl and cry; tell it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled, ²¹ and judgment has come on the plain country; on Holon, and on Jahazah, and on Mephaath, ²² and on Dibon, and on Nebo, and on Bethdiblathaim,

¹ Concerning the Ammonites, thus says the LORD; "Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished? ⁸ Flee, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I will visit him. ⁹ If grape gatherers come to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, they will destroy until they have enough. ¹⁰ But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: His seed is spoiled, and his brothers, and his neighbors, and he is no more. ¹¹ Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in Me." ¹² For thus says the LORD; "Behold, those whose judgment was to not drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and are you he who shall go altogether unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it. ¹³ For I have sworn by Myself", said the LORD, "that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes." ¹⁴ I have heard a rumor from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent to the heathen, saying, "Gather together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. ¹⁵ For lo, I will make you small among the heathen, and despised among men. ¹⁶ Your terribleness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there", said the LORD. ¹⁷ "Also Edom shall be a desolation: Everyone who goes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all her plagues. ¹⁸ As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities", said the LORD, "no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it. ¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up from the swelling of Jordan like a lion against the habitation of the strong: But I will suddenly make him run away from her: And who is a chosen man, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me? ²⁰ Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Edom; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: Surely He shall make their habitations desolate with them. ²¹ The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, the noise of her cry was heard in the Red sea. ²² Behold, He shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread His wings over Bozrah: And on that day the heart of the mighty men of Edom shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwell in the land of Uz; the cup shall also pass through to you: You shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked. ²² The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will no longer carry you away into captivity:Hhe will visit your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will discover your sins.

² "Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them; ³ and say to the Ammonites, 'Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you said, 'Aha', against My sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity; ⁴ behold, therefore I will deliver you to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in you, and make their dwellings in you: They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. ⁵ And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonites a couching place for flocks: And you shall know that I am the LORD." ⁶ For thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your spite against the land of Israel; ⁷ behold, therefore I will stretch out My hand upon you, and will deliver you for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut you off from the people, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries: I will destroy you; and you shall know that I am the LORD." ⁸ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because Moab and Seir say, 'Behold, the house of Judah is like all the heathen;' ⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Bethjeshimoth, Baalmeon, and Kiriathaim, ¹⁰ to the men of the east with the Ammonites, and will give them possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations. ¹¹ And I will execute judgments on Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD." ¹² Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself on them;" ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also stretch out My hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and those from Dedan shall fall by the sword. ¹⁴ And I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel: And they shall do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance", said the Lord GOD.

²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, which with their might are laid by those who were slain by the sword: They shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit.

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, ³ and say to it, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you, and I will stretch out My hand against you, and I will make you most desolate. ⁴ I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate, and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁵ Because you have had a perpetual hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end: ⁶ Therefore, as I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you: Since you have not hated blood, even blood shall pursue you. ⁷ Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it he who passes out and he who returns. ⁸ And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: In your hills, and in your valleys, and in all your rivers, those who are slain with the sword shall fall. ⁹ I will make you perpetual desolations, and your cities shall not return: And you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁰ Because you have said, 'These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it'; although the LORD was there: ¹¹ Therefore, as I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will even do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have used against them out of your hatred; and I will make Myself known among them, when I have judged you. ¹² And you shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, 'They are laid desolate, they are given to us to consume.' ¹³ Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me, and have multiplied your words against Me: I have heard them." ¹⁴ Thus says the Lord GOD; "When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. ¹⁵ As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will do to you: You shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: And they shall know that I am the LORD." ' "

¹¹ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and laid aside all pity, and his anger tore in pieces perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever:

¹ The vision of Obadiah. If the grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes?some grapes; or, some gleanings ⁶ How the things of Esau are searched out! How his hidden things are sought for up and down! ⁷ All the men of your confederacy have brought you even to the border: The men that were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you; that they eat your bread have laid a wound under you: There is no understanding in him.in him; or, of it ⁸ Shall I not in that day even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?", says the LORD. ⁹ "And your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter. ¹⁰ Shame shall cover you for your violence against your brother Jacob, and you shall be cut off forever. ¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried his forces away captive, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. ¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.spoken proudly: In Hebrew, magnified your mouth ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; yes, you should not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;substance; or, forces ¹⁴ neither should you have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: As you have done, it shall be done to you: Your recompense shall return upon your own head. ¹⁶ For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yes, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.swallow down; or, sup up

¹⁸ And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle inside them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau"; for the LORD has spoken it.

⁸ "I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached My people, and magnified themselves against their border. ⁹ Therefore as I live," says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation: The residue of My people shall spoil them, and the remnant of My people shall possess them." ¹⁰ This is what they shall receive for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

² "I have loved you", says the LORD. "Yet you all say, 'In what have You loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" says the LORD: "Yet I loved Jacob, ³ and I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage desolate for the dragons of the wilderness."desolate: In KJV, waste ⁴ Yet when Edom says, "We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places"; thus says the LORD of hosts, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, 'The border of wickedness', and, 'The people against whom the LORD has indignation forever.'

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, O you nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, 'He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.'

⁴ because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper who remains: For the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

²³ Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: For they have heard evil tidings: They are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. ²⁴ Damascus is waxed feeble, and turns herself to flee, and fear has seized upon her: Anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail. ²⁵ How is the city of praise not left, the city of My joy! ²⁶ Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day", said the LORD of hosts. ²⁷ And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.

¹ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, because Tyrus has said against Jerusalem, 'Aha, she who was the gates of the people is broken: She has turned to me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:' ³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I am against you, O Tyrus, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes his waves to come up. ⁴ And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock. ⁵ It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: For I have spoken it', said the Lord GOD: 'and it shall become a spoil to the nations. ⁶ And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD.' ⁷ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will bring on Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and many people. ⁸ He shall slay your daughters in the field with the sword: And he shall make a fort against you, and cast a mount against you, and lift up the buckler shield against you. ⁹ And he shall set engines of war against your walls, and with his axes he shall break down your towers. ¹⁰ By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover you: Your walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into your gates, as men enter into a city in which is made a breach. ¹¹ With the hoofs of his horses he shall tread down all your streets: He shall slay your people by the sword, and your strong garrisons shall go down to the ground. ¹² And they shall make a spoil of your riches, and make a prey of your merchandise: And they shall break down your walls, and destroy your pleasant houses: And they shall lay your stones and your timber and your dust in the midst of the water. ¹³ And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall no longer be heard. ¹⁴ And I will make you like the top of a rock: You shall be a place to spread nets on; you shall be built no more: For I the LORD have spoken it', said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyrus; 'Shall not the isles shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of you? ¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: They shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at you. ¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, "How you are destroyed, who were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be upon all who haunt it! ¹⁸ Now shall the isles tremble in the day of your fall; yes, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at your departure." ' ¹⁹ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'When I shall make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon you, and great waters shall cover you; ²⁰ when I shall bring you down with those who descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set you in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with those who go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; ²¹ I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more: Though you are sought for, yet you shall never be found again', said the Lord GOD."

²² and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you: And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her. ²³ For I will send pestilence into her, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword on her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

¹⁸ "Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: Yet he had no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:

³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

⁴ Yes, and what have you to do with Me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the borders of Palestine? Will you render Me a recompense? And if you recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense upon your own head; ⁵ because you have taken My silver and My gold, and have carried My goodly pleasant things into your temples: ⁶ You have also sold the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem to the Grecians, that you might remove them far from their border. ⁷ Behold, I will raise them out of the place where you have sold them, and will return your recompense upon your own head: ⁸ And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: For the LORD has spoken it.

³ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron: ⁴ But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad. ⁵ I will also break the gate bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and from him of the house of Eden that holds the scepter: And the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir", says the LORD.

⁹ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and did not remember the brotherly covenant: ¹⁰ But I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour its palaces."

¹ The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be its resting place: When the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD. ² And Hamath shall also border by it; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it is very wise. ³ And Tyrus built herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. ⁴ Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and He will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

⁷ And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: And the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

¹⁵ Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

³⁰ mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,

¹⁹ The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.

¹³ The burden on Arabia. You shall lodge in the forest in Arabia, O you traveling companies of Dedanim. ¹⁴ The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him who was thirsty, they met with their bread him that fled.

⁸ Flee, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I will visit him.

³² And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their domestic beasts a spoil: And I will scatter into all winds those who are in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides of it", said the LORD.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also stretch out My hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and those from Dedan shall fall by the sword.

²⁰ Dedan was your merchant in precious clothes for chariots.

² And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. ³ And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. ⁴ And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

¹² Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bore to Abraham: ¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, ¹⁴ and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, ¹⁵ Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.

²⁵ And they sat down to eat bread: And they lifted up their eyes and looked, and behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. ²⁶ And Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and do not let our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh." And his brothers were content. ²⁸ Then Midianite merchants passed by there; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

¹⁵ beside that he had of the merchants, and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.

¹⁴ beside that which chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.

²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

²⁸ Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite", thus says the LORD; "Arise, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east. ²⁹ They shall take away their tents and their flocks: They shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry to them, Fear is on every side. ³⁰ Flee, go far away, dwell deep, O you inhabitants of Hazor", said the LORD; "for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you. ³¹ Arise, go up to the wealthy nation, who dwells without care", said the LORD, "which has neither gates nor bars, which dwells alone. ³² And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their domestic beasts a spoil: And I will scatter into all winds those who are in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides of it", said the LORD. ³³ "And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and a desolation forever: No man shall abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it."

²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with you in lambs, and rams, and goats: In these they were your merchants.

²² The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

¹ And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;

² And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

⁶ And Elam bore the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

³⁴ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, ³⁵ "Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. ³⁶ And on Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come. ³⁷ For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life: And I will bring evil on them, even My fierce anger', said the LORD; 'and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them: ³⁸ And I will set My throne in Elam, and will destroy the king and the princes from there', said the LORD. ³⁹ 'But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam', said the LORD."

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.

²⁸ Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, its captains, and all its rulers, and all the land of his dominion.

²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which have gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

² And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I looked, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river Ulai.

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: There is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For no more shall you be called tender and delicate. ² Take the millstones, and grind meal: Uncover your locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. ³ Your nakedness shall be uncovered, yes, your shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet you as a man. ⁴ As for our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel. ⁵ Sit silent, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For you shall no longer be called The lady of kingdoms. ⁶ I was angry with My people, I have polluted My inheritance, and given them into your hand: You showed them no mercy; upon the elderly you have laid your yoke very heavily. ⁷ And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever': So that you did not take these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it. ⁸ Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children': ⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments. ¹⁰ For you have trusted in your wickedness: You have said, 'None sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge have perverted you; and you have said in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me.' ¹¹ Therefore evil shall come on you; you shall not know from where it rises: And mischief shall fall upon you; you shall not be able to put it off: And desolation shall come on you suddenly, which you shall not know. ¹² Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; if so perhaps you shall be able to profit, if so perhaps you may prevail. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save you from these things that shall come on you. ¹⁴ Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: There shall not be a coal to warm by, nor fire to sit before. ¹⁵ Thus they shall be to you with whom you have labored, even your merchants, from your youth: Everyone shall wander to his quarter; none shall save you.

⁴¹ How is Sheshach taken! And how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! How has Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

¹⁶ You are filled with shame for glory: Drink also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: The cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned toward you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory.

⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges on the enemy.

²¹ Therefore now hear this, you afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:

⁶ And I will tread down the people in My anger, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹² The spoilers have come on all high places through the wilderness: For the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: No flesh shall have peace.

¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them."

¹⁰ For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of his adversaries: And the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.'

³⁵ A sword is upon the Chaldeans", said the LORD, "and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

⁴ Seeing then that I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked, therefore My sword shall go forth out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north: ⁵ That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth My sword out of his sheath: It shall not return any more." '

²¹ 'Speak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left shall fall by the sword. ²² And you shall do as I have done: You shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men. ²³ And your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your shoes on your feet: You shall not mourn nor weep; but you shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another. ²⁴ Thus Ezekiel is a sign to you: According to all that he has done you shall do: And when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.' " ²⁵ 'Also, you son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take their strength from them, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

³³ Should it be according to your mind? He will recompense it, whether you refuse, or whether you choose; and not I: Therefore speak what you know.

²⁴ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, "Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. ²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed on the whole earth: And this is the hand that is outstretched on all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall cancel it? And his hand is outstretched, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure': ¹¹ Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country: Yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

²⁸ For this the earth shall mourn, and heaven above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not relent, neither will I turn back from it.

¹² For thus says the LORD; "Behold, those whose judgment was to not drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and are you he who shall go altogether unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it.

²⁹ And the land shall tremble and sorrow: Forevery purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?"

²⁸ to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel determined beforehand to be done.

¹¹ In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the counsel of His own will:

⁴³ hear you in heaven your dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to you for: That all people of the earth may know your name, to fear you, as do your people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have built, is called by your name.

²¹ Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

³¹ Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: Much more the wicked and the sinner.

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: And he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed His whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

¹³ Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit on David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹¹ For I am with you', said the LORD, 'to save you: Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a full end of you: But I will correct you in measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.'

²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob My servant", said the LORD: "for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you: But I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet I will not leave you wholly unpunished."

⁶ Utterly slay old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: But do not come near any man on whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary." Then they began at the elderly men who were before the house.

¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, 'Sword, go through the land'; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

²¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; "How much more when I send My four sore judgments on Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off man and beast from it?

²¹ And I will call for a sword against him throughout all My mountains", says the Lord GOD: "Every man's sword shall be against his brother.

¹⁸ O my God, incline Your ear, and hear; open Your eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name: For we do not present our supplications before You on account of our righteousnesses, but because of Your great mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; Defer not, for Your own sake, O my God: For Your city and Your people are called by Your name."

¹⁶ For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yes, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.swallow down; or, sup up

⁷ "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is My fellow", says the LORD of hosts: "Smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: And I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

³¹ For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?"

¹⁵ Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the land which you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land that flows with milk and honey.

³ And the LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your supplication, that you have made before me: I have hallowed this house, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

²⁷ Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: And their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even to heaven.

⁴ The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: His eyes behold and His eyelids examine the children of men.

⁵ which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming ever so wisely.

⁶⁵ Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine.

¹⁴ "This is My rest forever: Here I will dwell; for I have desired it.

⁹ Therefore I will mourn with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: For battle shout has fallen over your summer fruits and your harvest.

¹³ The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, yes, roar; He shall prevail against His enemies.

¹² A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

³³ And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab, and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: None shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall not be joyful shouting.

¹⁴ For I will be to Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

⁷ Therefore I will be to them as a lion: As a leopard by the pathway, I will observe them: ⁸ I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will tear the membrane of their heart, and I will devour them there like a lion: The wild beast shall tear them.

¹¹ And the LORD shall utter His voice before His army: For His camp is very great: For He is strong that executes His word: For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? ¹² "Therefore now also," says the LORD, "turn even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: ¹³ And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD your God: For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and it repents Him concerning the evil.

¹⁶ The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: But the LORD will be the hope of His people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

² And he said, "The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither."

⁸ The lion has roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken, who can help but prophesy?

¹³ Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: For He is raised up out of His holy habitation."

¹⁸ And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried out with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, "Thrust in your sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe." ¹⁹ Then the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the large winepress of the wrath of God. ²⁰ And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even up to the horse bridles, for the distance of one thousand and six hundred furlongs.1600 furlongs is approximately 200 miles or 322 kilometers.

¹⁵ And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: And He shall rule them with a rod of iron: And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion.

¹⁶ For by fire and by His sword the LORD will plead with all flesh: And the slain of the LORD shall be many.

⁵ And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them: For behold, I will bring evil on all flesh", said the LORD: "but I will give your life to you as booty in all places where you go." ' "

³⁵ And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there I will plead with you face to face. ³⁶ Like I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead with you", said the Lord GOD.

²² And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

¹ Hear the word of the LORD, you children of Israel: For the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

² The LORD also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings He will recompense him.

² I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for My people and for My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and divided My land.

² Hear, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth: For the LORD has a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Israel.

⁶ And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: For God did vex them with all adversity.

²⁸ Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

² For the indignation of the LORD is on all nations, and His fury on all their armies: He has utterly destroyed them, He has delivered them to the slaughter.

¹⁸ "For I know their works and their thoughts: It shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see My glory.

¹⁹ Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: It shall fall grievously on the head of the wicked.

²³ Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goes forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: It shall fall with pain on the head of the wicked.

⁸ Therefore wait upon Me", says the LORD, "until the day that I rise up to the prey: For My determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them My indignation, even all My fierce anger: For all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy.

¹⁰ Then He said to them, "Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

²⁵ And there shall be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

³⁷ And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, "This is Jezebel.

³ They have shed their blood like water all around Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

¹⁰ Who perished at Endor: They became as dung for the earth.

²⁵ Therefore the anger of the LORD is kindled against His people, and He has stretched forth His hand against them, and has smitten them: And the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

² For the indignation of the LORD is on all nations, and His fury on all their armies: He has utterly destroyed them, He has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain shall also be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and heaven shall be rolled together as a scroll: And all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven: Behold, it shall come down on Edom, and on the people of My curse, for judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bulls with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. ⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion.

² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: They shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.

²¹ For death has come up into our windows, and has entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from outside, and the young men from the streets. ²² Speak, Thus says the LORD, "Even the carcasses of men shall fall as dung on the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them."

⁴ "They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung on the face of the earth: And they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the wild beasts of the earth." ⁵ For thus says the LORD, "Do not enter into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: For I have taken away My peace from this people", said the LORD, "even lovingkindness and mercies. ⁶ Both the great and the small shall die in this land: They shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: ⁷ Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

⁴ You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you, and all your bands, and the people that are with you: I will give you to the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the wild beasts of the field to be devoured. ⁵ You shall fall upon the open field: For I have spoken it", says the Lord GOD. ⁶ "And I will send a fire upon Magog, and among those that dwell carelessly in the isles: And they shall know that I am the LORD. ⁷ So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let them pollute My holy name any more: And the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. ⁸ Behold, it is come, and it is done", says the Lord GOD; "this is the day of which I have spoken. ⁹ And those that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the javelins, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: ¹⁰ So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any trees out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: And they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them", says the Lord GOD. ¹¹ "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give to Gog a place of graves there in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: And it shall stop the noses of the passengers: And they shall bury Gog and all his multitude there: And they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. ¹² And the house of Israel shall be burying them for seven months, that they may cleanse the land. ¹³ Yes, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified", says the Lord GOD. ¹⁴ "And they shall separate out men for continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: After the end of seven months they shall search. ¹⁵ And the passengers that pass through the land, when any of them sees a man's bone, he shall then set up a sign by it, until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog. ¹⁶ And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus they shall cleanse the land. ¹⁷ "And, you son of man, thus says the Lord GOD; 'Speak to every feathered fowl, and to every wild beast of the field, "Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to My sacrifice that I sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh, and drink blood. ¹⁸ You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatted calves of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you shall eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. ²⁰ Thus you shall be filled at My table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war" ', says the Lord GOD.

¹² "You Ethiopians also, you all shall be slain by My sword."

⁹ And those of the people, tribes, tongues, and nations shall see their dead bodies three and a half days, and shall not let their dead bodies to be put in graves.

¹⁷ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses, and of those that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great." ¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: And all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

¹⁰ And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

⁹ You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.' "

¹⁶ and on all the ships of Tarshish, and on all pleasant pictures.

¹⁴ And He shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel which is broken in pieces; He shall not spare: So that after the bursting of it there shall not be found a shard to take fire from the hearth, or to take water out of the pit.

¹ Woe to you who plunder, and you were not plundered; and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease to plunder, you shall be plundered; and when you make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

¹⁹ But I said, "How shall I put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations?" and I said, "You shall call Me, my Father; and shall not turn away from Me."

⁸ For this gird yourself with sackcloth, lament and howl: For the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us. ⁹ "And it shall come to pass in that day", said the LORD, "that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder."

²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes: Make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: For the spoiler shall come on us suddenly.

¹⁰ Then you shall break the bottle in the sight of the men who go with you, ¹¹ and shall say to them', Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'Even so I will break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: And they shall bury them in Tophet, until there is no place left to bury. ¹² Thus I will do to this place', said the LORD, 'and to its inhabitants, and even make this city as Tophet:

²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? Is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they do not know?

²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners,

³⁶ A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: For the LORD has spoiled their pasture.

²⁶ "Make you him drunken: For he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he shall also be in derision.

²⁷ Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers.

³⁰ and shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes: ³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.

¹⁶ "I will seek those who were lost, and bring back those who were driven away, and will bind up those who were broken, and will strengthen those who were sick: But I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment. ¹⁷ And as for you, O My flock", thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I judge between domestic beasts and domestic beasts, between the rams and the he-goats.

²⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD to them; "Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat domestic beasts and between the lean domestic beasts.

⁸ And shall also carry captives into Egypt, their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.

¹¹ Therefore, as much as your treading is upon the poor, and you take burdens of wheat from him: You have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them.

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: ¹³ And on all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and on all the oaks of Bashan, ¹⁴ and on all the high mountains, and on all the hills that are lifted up, ¹⁵ and on every high tower, and on every fenced wall, ¹⁶ and on all the ships of Tarshish, and on all pleasant pictures. ¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹⁸ And the idols He shall utterly abolish. ¹⁹ And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He rises to shake terribly the earth. ²⁰ In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; ²¹ to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He rises to shake terribly the earth. ²² Cease all of you from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: For in what is he to be accounted of?

²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited. ²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his elders gloriously.

⁴ and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

³ And you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.' " '

¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.' "

²³ So they shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans: And you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: And you shall cause this city to be burned with fire.' "

⁴⁴ "He who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that gets up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: For I will bring upon it, even on Moab, the year of their visitation", said the LORD.

⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him. ⁹ Then they took the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment on him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: He also slew all the princes of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death.

²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door: ²⁵ He took also out of the city an eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of those that were near the king's person, which were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land; and three score men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city. ²⁶ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land.

¹⁵ But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? Shall he escape who does such things? Or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?

¹⁸ Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and has done all these things, he shall not escape.' "

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

¹⁴ Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: And He said, "Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: And cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: He that flees from them shall not flee away, and he that escapes from them shall not be delivered.cut; or, wound ² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they hide from My sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

¹⁴ And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. ¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?"

⁸ For this gird yourself with sackcloth, lament and howl: For the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

³⁴ Howl, all of you shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, you principal of the flock: For the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and you shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

¹⁰ Yet the defended city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: There the calf shall feed, and there he shall lie down, and consume its branches. ¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: The women come, and set them on fire: For it is a people of no understanding: Therefore He that made them will not have mercy on them, and He that formed them will show them no favor.

¹⁴ Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for caves forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks;

⁷ The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

⁶ Why a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: Every one who goes out there shall be torn in pieces: Because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings have increased.

¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up from the swelling of Jordan like a lion against the habitation of the strong: But I will suddenly make him run away from her: And who is a chosen man, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?

⁴⁴ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan to the habitation of the strong: But I will make them suddenly run away from her: And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?"

¹⁰ They shall walk after the LORD: He shall roar like a lion: When He shall roar, then the children from the west shall tremble.

⁸ Shall the land not tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwells in it? And it shall wholly rise up as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

³ And behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
