In the road you have sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness. ³ Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain; and you had a whore's forehead, you refused to be ashamed. ⁴ Will you not from this time forward cry out to Me, 'My Father, You are the guide of my youth'? ⁵ Will he reserve his anger forever? Will he keep it to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil things as you could." ⁶ The LORD also said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the harlot. ⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, 'Turn to Me.' But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. ⁸ And I saw, that for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and wooden idols. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but feignedly", said the LORD. ¹¹ And the LORD said to me, "The backsliding Israel has justified herself more than treacherous Judah. ¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, 'Return, you backsliding Israel', said the LORD; 'and I will not cause My anger to fall upon you: For I am merciful', said the LORD, 'and I will not keep anger forever. ¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice', said the LORD. ¹⁴ 'Turn, O backsliding children', said the LORD; 'for I am married to you: And I will take one of you from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion: ¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to My heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. ¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days', said the LORD, 'they shall say no more, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD": Neither shall it come to mind: Neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more. ¹⁷ At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: Neither shall they walk after the imagination of their evil heart any more. ¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance to your fathers. ¹⁹ But I said, "How shall I put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations?" and I said, "You shall call Me, my Father; and shall not turn away from Me." ²⁰ Surely as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel', said the LORD. ²¹ A voice was heard on the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: For they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God. ²² Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to you; for you are the LORD our God." ²³ Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: Truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel. ²⁴ For shame has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. ²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us: For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

²⁴ Defile not you yourselves in any of these things: For in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: ²⁵ And the land is defiled: Therefore I do visit its iniquity on it, and the land itself vomits out her inhabitants. ²⁶ You shall therefore keep My statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourns among you: ²⁷ (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled); ²⁸ That the land spew not you out also, when you defile it, as it spewed out the nations that were before you.

²⁹ But if from there you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. ³⁰ When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come on you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient to his voice; ³¹ (For the LORD your God is a merciful God); he will not forsake you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.

²¹ Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: Because she has worked folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: So shall you put evil away from among you.

¹ When a man has taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her: Then let him write her a bill of divorce, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. ² And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife. ³ And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorce, and gives it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; ⁴ her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: And you shall not cause the land to sin, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

² And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.

⁵ The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. ⁸ "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways", said the LORD. ⁹ "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination.

²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot.

²³ "How can you say, 'I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?' See your way in the valley, know what you have done: You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and wooden idols.

¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, 'Return, you backsliding Israel', said the LORD; 'and I will not cause My anger to fall upon you: For I am merciful', said the LORD, 'and I will not keep anger forever. ¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice', said the LORD. ¹⁴ 'Turn, O backsliding children', said the LORD; 'for I am married to you: And I will take one of you from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

²² Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to you; for you are the LORD our God."

¹ "If you will return, O Israel", said the LORD, "return to Me: And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight, then you shall not be removed.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

⁴ Moreover you shall say to them, "Thus says the LORD; 'Shall they fall, and not arise? Shall he turn away, and not return?' ⁵ Why then is this people of Jerusalem slid back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. ⁶ I listened and heard, but they did not speak aright: No man repented of his wickedness, saying, 'What have I done?' Everyone turned to his course, as the horse rushes into the battle.

²⁶ You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger.

²⁸ You have also played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ²⁹ Moreover you have multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet even with this you were not satisfied.

⁴ And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: And they were Mine, and they bore sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah. ⁵ And Aholah played the harlot when she was Mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors, ⁶ who were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses. ⁷ Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them who were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all upon whom she doted: With all their idols she defiled herself. ⁸ Neither did she leave her whoredoms brought from Egypt: For in her youth they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her. ⁹ Therefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted. ¹⁰ These discovered her nakedness: They took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: And she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her. ¹¹ And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms. ¹² She doted on the Assyrians her neighbors, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men. ¹³ Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way, ¹⁴ and that she increased her whoredoms: For when she saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion, ¹⁵ girded with girdles on their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity: ¹⁶ And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted on them, and sent messengers to them into Chaldea. ¹⁷ And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. ¹⁸ So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: Then My mind was alienated from her, like My mind was alienated from her sister. ¹⁹ Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. ²⁰ For she doted on their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses. ²¹ Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth, in bruising your teats by the Egyptians for the breasts of your youth. ²² Therefore, O Aholibah, thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your mind is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side; ²³ the Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: All of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses. ²⁴ And they shall come against you with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, who shall set against you buckler and shield and helmet on every side: And I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge you according to their judgments. ²⁵ And I will set My jealousy against you, and they shall deal furiously with you: They shall take away your nose and your ears; and your remnant shall fall by the sword: They shall take your sons and your daughters; and your residue shall be devoured by the fire. ²⁶ They shall also strip you out of your clothes, and take away your fair jewels. ²⁷ Thus I will make your lewdness to cease from you, and your whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: So that you shall not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.' " ²⁸ For thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of those who you hate, into the hand of those from whom your mind is alienated: ²⁹ And they shall deal with you hatefully, and shall take away all your labor, and shall leave you naked and bare: And the nakedness of your whoredoms shall be discovered, both your lewdness and your whoredoms. ³⁰ I will do these things to you, because you have gone a whoring after the heathen, and because you are polluted with their idols. ³¹ You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore I will give her cup into your hand." ³² Thus says the Lord GOD; "You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and large: You shall be laughed to scorn and held in derision; it contains much. ³³ You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria. ³⁴ You shall even drink it and suck it out, and you shall break its shards, and pluck off your own breasts: For I have spoken it", said the Lord GOD. ³⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have forgotten Me, and cast Me behind your back, therefore bear also your lewdness and your whoredoms." ³⁶ The LORD said moreover to me; "Son of man, will you judge Aholah and Aholibah? Yes, declare to them their abominations; ³⁷ that they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bore to Me, to pass through the fire for them, to devour them. ³⁸ Moreover they have done this to Me: They have defiled My sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned My Sabbaths. ³⁹ For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into My sanctuary to profane it; and lo, thus they have done in the midst of My house. ⁴⁰ And furthermore, that you have sent for men to come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and lo, they came: For whom you did wash yourself, painted your eyes, and decked yourself with ornaments, ⁴¹ and sat on a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon you have set My incense and My oil. ⁴² And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: And with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, who put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns on their heads. ⁴³ Then I said to her that was old in adulteries, 'Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?' ⁴⁴ Yet they went in to her, as they go in to a woman who plays the harlot: So they went in to Aholah and to Aholibah, the lewd women. ⁴⁵ And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women who shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands." ⁴⁶ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'I will bring up a company on them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled. ⁴⁷ And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire. ⁴⁸ Thus I will cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness. ⁴⁹ And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols: And you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.' "

¹¹ Say to them, 'As I live', said the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: Turn yourself, turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?'

² The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, "Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: For the land has committed great whoredoms, departing from the LORD."

⁵ For their mother has played the harlot: She that conceived them has done shamefully: For she said, 'I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.' ⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. ⁷ And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: Then she shall say, 'I will go and return to my first husband; for then it was better with me than now.'

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity. ² Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: Say to Him, "Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: So will we render the calves of our lips. ³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'You are our gods': For in You the fatherless finds mercy." ⁴ "I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: For My anger is turned away from him.

¹⁰ Arise, and depart; for this is not your rest: Because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.

³ Therefore say you to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn to Me", says the LORD of hosts, "and I will turn to you", says the LORD of hosts.

¹⁶ And he would have gladly filled his belly with the husks that the swine ate: But no one gave to him. ¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have enough bread with some to spare, yet I perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, ¹⁹ and am no longer worthy to be called your son: Make me as one of your hired servants." ' ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' ²² But the father said to his servants, 'Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: ²³ And bring here the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: ²⁴ For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to be merry.

¹⁴ And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the roadway to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she had not been given to him to wife.

² You shall utterly destroy all the places, in which the nations which you shall possess served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree:

³ And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: And his wives turned away his heart.

¹³ And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, the king defiled them.

²⁸ She also lies in wait as for a prey, and increases the transgressors among men.

²⁹ Cut off your hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

⁴ And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain. ⁵ Then He said to me, "Son of man, now lift up your eyes toward the way to the north." So I lifted up my eyes toward the way to the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar, this image of jealousy was in the entrance. ⁶ He said furthermore to me, "Son of man, see what they do? Even the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, that I should go far away from My sanctuary? But turn yet again, and you shall see greater abominations."

¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so.

²⁴ That you have also built to yourselves an eminent place, and have made a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at every head of a road, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, for which I lifted up My hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered their sacrifices there, and they presented the provocation of their offering there: There also they made their sweet smell, and poured out their drink offerings there."

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

²³ And your heaven that is over your head shall be brass, and the earth that is under you shall be iron.

¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsook them not.

⁶ And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

³ O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: They have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

²⁴ Neither do they say in their heart, "Let us now fear the LORD our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in His season: He reserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest."

¹⁵ Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: Therefore they shall fall among those who fall: At the time that I visit them they shall be cast down", said the LORD.

¹² Who is the wise man, that may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it, why the land perishes and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passes through?

⁴ Because the ground is beat down, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? Or can heaven give showers? Are you not He, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait on you: For you have made all these things.

¹⁶ "As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

⁷ But the house of Israel will not listen to you; for they will not listen to Me: For all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

³⁰ How weak is your heart", said the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire; ³² but rather as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ³⁴ And you are contrary from other women in your whoredoms, in that no one follows you to commit whoredoms: And in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary."

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? ¹⁷ The seed is rotten under their clods of earth, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. ¹⁸ How the beasts groan! The herds of domestic beasts are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. ¹⁹ O LORD, to You I will cry: For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field. ²⁰ The wild beasts of the field also cry to You: For the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

⁷ "And I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months until the harvest: And I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: One piece of land was rained upon, and the piece of land upon which it did not rain withered.

⁵ The just LORD is in the midst of it; He will not do iniquity: Every morning He brings His judgment to light, He does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.Every morning: In Hebrew, Morning by morning

¹¹ And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground brings forth, and upon men, and upon domestic beasts, and upon all the labor of the hands."

¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in His Spirit by the former prophets: Therefore a great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if those who refused 'Him that spoke on earth' did not escape, much more we shall not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven:

¹⁴ For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our guide even to death.

⁵ For You are my hope, O Lord GOD: You are my trust from my youth.

¹⁷ O God, You have taught me from my youth: And until now I have declared Your wondrous works.

⁹ BETH: With what shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed to act according to Your word.

⁴ to give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

¹⁷ that forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God.

² "Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the LORD; "I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

²⁷ Saying to a stock, 'You are my father'; and to a stone, 'You have brought me forth': For they have turned their back to me, and not their face: But in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise, and save us.'

¹⁹ But I said, "How shall I put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations?" and I said, "You shall call Me, my Father; and shall not turn away from Me."

⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way in which they shall not stumble: For I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.' ²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I earnestly do remember him still: Therefore My bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him", said the LORD.

¹⁵ And I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: And she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity. ² Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: Say to Him, "Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: So will we render the calves of our lips. ³ Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, 'You are our gods': For in You the fatherless finds mercy."

¹⁴ Yet all you say, "Why?" Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously: Yet she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant.

⁷ Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? ⁸ Is His mercy wholly gone forever? Does His promise fail forevermore? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He shut up His tender mercies in anger? Selah.

⁵ Will You be angry with us forever? Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy. ⁹ He will not always chide, nor will He keep His anger forever.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, neither will I always be wroth: For the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made.

⁹ Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity forever: Behold, see, we beseech You, we all are Your people.

¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, 'Return, you backsliding Israel', said the LORD; 'and I will not cause My anger to fall upon you: For I am merciful', said the LORD, 'and I will not keep anger forever.

⁶ Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone in you has used their power to shed blood.

¹ Woe to those that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.

³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul

¹ Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! ² She did not obey the voice; she did not receive correction; she did not trust in the LORD; she did not draw near to her God. ³ Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not gnaw the bones until the next day. ⁴ Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. ⁵ The just LORD is in the midst of it; He will not do iniquity: Every morning He brings His judgment to light, He does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.Every morning: In Hebrew, Morning by morning

²³ For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

⁷ For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, ⁸ and walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made. ⁹ And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. ¹⁰ And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree: ¹¹ And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and worked wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger: ¹² For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this thing. ¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. ¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God. ¹⁵ And they rejected his statutes, and His covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were all around them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them. ¹⁶ And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. ¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

⁷ On a lofty and high mountain you have set your bed: Even there you went up to offer sacrifice.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts. ²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot.

⁸ And I saw, that for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.

¹¹ And the LORD said to me, "The backsliding Israel has justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

²⁴ But they did not listen, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

² whilst their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees on the high hills.

³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire;

¹¹ And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.

¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. ¹⁴ Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

⁶ So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, "You children of Israel, turn again to the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. ⁷ And be not you like your fathers, and like your brothers, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as you see. ⁸ Now be you not stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever: And serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you. ⁹ For if you turn again to the LORD, your brothers and your children shall find compassion before those that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him. ¹⁰ So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even to Zebulun: But they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them. ¹¹ Nevertheless diverse of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem. ¹² Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.

⁸ And I saw, that for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and wooden idols. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but feignedly", said the LORD. ¹¹ And the LORD said to me, "The backsliding Israel has justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

² "Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother: ³ And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: Their breasts were pressed there, and they bruised the teats of their virginity there. ⁴ And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: And they were Mine, and they bore sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

¹ Come, and let us return to the LORD: For He has torn, and He will heal us; He has smitten, and He will bind us up. ² After two days He will revive us: On the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight. ³ Then we shall know, if we follow on pursuing to know the LORD: His going forth is prepared like the morning; and He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth. ⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

¹ When a man has taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her: Then let him write her a bill of divorce, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

³ And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorce, and gives it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;

⁹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. ¹⁰ And at the end of three years they took it: Even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. ¹¹ And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

¹ Thus says the LORD, "Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you have sold yourselves, and for your transgressions your mother is put away.

⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: But, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways.

⁹ Therefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.

¹¹ And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms. ¹² She doted on the Assyrians her neighbors, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men. ¹³ Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way, ¹⁴ and that she increased her whoredoms: For when she saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion, ¹⁵ girded with girdles on their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity: ¹⁶ And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted on them, and sent messengers to them into Chaldea. ¹⁷ And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. ¹⁸ So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: Then My mind was alienated from her, like My mind was alienated from her sister. ¹⁹ Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. ²⁰ For she doted on their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses. ²¹ Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth, in bruising your teats by the Egyptians for the breasts of your youth.

² Plead with your mother, plead: For she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: Let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts; ³ lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

⁴ For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without a standing image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

¹⁵ Though you, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and you are not to come to Gilgal, neither go up to Bethaven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.' ¹⁶ For Israel slides back as a backsliding heifer: Now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place. ¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols: Let him alone.

¹⁵ "All their wickedness is in Gilgal: For there I hated them: I will drive them out of My house for the wickedness of their doings, I will love them no more: All their princes are revolters. ¹⁶ Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: Yes, though they bring forth, yet I will slay even the beloved fruit of their womb." ¹⁷ My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken to Him: And they shall be wanderers among the nations.

⁶ Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they, they are your lot: Even to them you have poured a drink offering, you have offered a food offering. Should I receive comfort in these?

² "Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see where you have not been lain with. In the road you have sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness.

⁸ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: The wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities.

¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them,

¹⁰ These discovered her nakedness: They took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: And she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.

¹² My people ask counsel from their wooden idols, and their wooden staff declares to them: For the spirit of whoredoms has caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

³³ And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

⁴⁴ As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: The strangers shall submit themselves to me.

³ Say to God, "How frightening You are in Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.

³⁶ Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, and they lied to Him with their tongues. ³⁷ For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they steadfast in His covenant.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets.

² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind.

¹⁴ And they have not cried out to Me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: They assemble themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against Me.

⁵¹ Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: They are more righteous than you: Yes, be confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.

¹⁶ For Israel slides back as a backsliding heifer: Now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

⁷ And My people are bent to backsliding away from Me: Though they called them to the most High, none would exalt Him at all.

² and shall return to the LORD your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

²³ until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

¹ Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

⁹ For if you turn again to the LORD, your brothers and your children shall find compassion before those that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.

⁵ How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? Shall your jealousy burn like fire?

⁵ For You, LORD, are good, and ready to forgive; and abound in mercy to all those who call upon You.

¹⁵ But You, O LORD, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in mercy and truth.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

¹⁷ But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children's children;

⁸ The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

¹³ He that covers his sins shall not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

²² I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins: Return to Me; for I have redeemed you.

⁵ Will he reserve his anger forever? Will he keep it to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil things as you could."

⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, 'Turn to Me.' But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

¹⁴ 'Turn, O backsliding children', said the LORD; 'for I am married to you: And I will take one of you from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance to your fathers.

⁸ but, 'The LORD lives, who brought up and who led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries where I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.'

¹¹ For I am with you', said the LORD, 'to save you: Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a full end of you: But I will correct you in measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.'

⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the borders of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who labors with child together: A great company shall return there.

²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I earnestly do remember him still: Therefore My bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him", said the LORD.

²⁶ then I will cast away the seed of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: For I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.' "

²⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Now I will bring back again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for My holy name;

¹ Come, and let us return to the LORD: For He has torn, and He will heal us; He has smitten, and He will bind us up.

⁸ How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you as Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My repentings are kindled together. ⁹ I will not execute the fierceness of My anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: For I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you: And I will not enter into the city.

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. ¹⁹ He will return again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ You will perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

²⁰ Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: ²¹ That as sin has reigned to death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁴⁰ If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me; ⁴¹ and that I also have walked contrary to them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: ⁴² Then will I remember My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

¹ And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where the LORD your God has driven you, ² and shall return to the LORD your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul; ³ that then the LORD your God will turn your captivity, and have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the nations, where the LORD your God has scattered you.

²⁷ He looks on men, and if any say, "I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; ²⁸ he will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

²⁵ Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: But you said, 'There is no hope: No; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.'

⁶ The LORD also said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the harlot.

²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us: For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

²⁰ We acknowledge our wickedness, O LORD, and the iniquity of our fathers: For we have sinned against You.

¹⁵ "But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one who passed by; his it was.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, ¹⁹ and am no longer worthy to be called your son: Make me as one of your hired servants." ' ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

⁹ Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like Gomorrah.

¹³ But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be consumed: As a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: So the holy seed shall be the substance of it."

²² For though your people Israel are as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: The decreed destruction shall overflow with righteousness.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And He shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

⁶ Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches of it", said the LORD God of Israel.

¹³ Thus when it shall be in the middle of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. ¹⁴ They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. ¹⁵ Why do you glorify the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

⁵ For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; He shall be called the God of the whole earth.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

³ And I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the borders of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who labors with child together: A great company shall return there. ⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way in which they shall not stumble: For I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn. ¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, O you nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, 'He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.'

³² Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them", said the LORD:

¹¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I, even I, will both search My sheep, and seek them out. ¹² As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so I will seek out My sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. ¹³ And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. ¹⁴ I will feed them in a good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel: They shall lie there in a good fold, and in a fat pasture they shall feed upon the mountains of Israel.

¹⁹ And I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. ²⁰ I will even betroth you to Me in faithfulness: And you shall know the LORD.

⁷ "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is My fellow", says the LORD of hosts: "Smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: And I will turn My hand upon the little ones. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land", says the LORD, "two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die; but one-third shall be left in the land. ⁹ And I will bring the one-third through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will prove them through testing as gold is proved: They shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is My people': And they shall say, 'The LORD is my God.' "

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

⁴ But what does God say to answer him? "I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal." ⁵ Even so then, at this present time there is also a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if by grace, then it is no longer of works: Otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then it is no longer grace: Otherwise work is no longer work.

¹⁴ But now your kingdom shall not continue: The LORD has sought Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be captain over His people, because you have not kept that which the LORD commanded you."

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: But fools die for lack of wisdom.

²⁰ And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet your teachers shall not be removed into a corner any more, but your eyes shall see your teachers: ²¹ And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand side, and when you turn to the left.

⁴ And I will set up shepherds over them who shall feed them: And they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking", said the LORD.

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

²⁴ And David My servant shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd: They shall also walk in My judgments, and observe My statutes, and do them.

⁴ And He shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD His God; and they shall abide: For now He shall be great to the ends of the earth. ⁵ And this Man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: And when he shall tread in our palaces, then we shall raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.principal: In Hebrew, princes of

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹ "Truly, truly, I say to you, He that does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. ² But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. ³ To him the doorkeeper opens; and the sheep hear his voice: And he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out. ⁴ And when he brings forth his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him: For they know his voice. ⁵ And they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him: For they do not know the voice of strangers."

¹⁵ So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

²⁸ Therefore take heed to yourselves, and to all the flock, among whom the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He has purchased with His own blood.

⁶ Nevertheless, we speak wisdom among those that are perfect: Yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nothing:

¹² Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us from God. ¹³ Which things we also speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

¹ And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual, but as to carnal, even as to babes in Christ. ² I have fed you with milk, and not with food: For until now you were not able to bear it, even now you still are not able.

¹¹ And He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers; ¹² for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

¹² Even though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. ¹³ For everyone that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: For he is a babe. ¹⁴ But solid food belongs to those that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

² as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:

¹ I exhort the elders which are among you; I am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: ² Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking on the oversight of it, not by compulsion, but willingly; not for filthy profit, but from a ready mind; ³ neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that does not fade away.

²² A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in its time."

⁴ And they shall build the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

¹⁷ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: And the former shall not be remembered, nor come to mind.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: Where is the house that you build to Me? And where is the place of My rest? ² For all those things My hand has made, and all those things have been in existence", said the LORD: "but to this man I will look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.

⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, 'The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.'

¹⁹ And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry: And I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²⁷ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

⁸ But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to My people of Israel; for they are soon to come. ⁹ For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown: ¹⁰ And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: And the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be built: ¹¹ And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: And I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better to you than at your beginnings: And you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹² Yes, I will cause men to walk upon you, even My people Israel; and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and from now on you shall no longer bereave them of children."

²⁶ Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: And I will place them, and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore.

¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people', there it shall be said to them, 'You are the sons of the living God.' ¹¹ Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: For great shall be the day of Jezreel."

⁹ "For lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet the smallest grain shall not fall upon the earth.sift: In Hebrew, cause to movegrain: In Hebrew, stone

¹⁴ And I will bring home again the captivity of My people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink its wine; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. ¹⁵ And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no longer be pulled up out of their land which I have given them", says the LORD your God.

¹¹ In that day you shall not be ashamed for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against Me: For then I will take away out of the midst of you those that rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty because of My holy mountain.

⁴ Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'There shall yet dwell old men and old women in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand on account of great age. ⁵ And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in those streets.'

⁷ And those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: Yes, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD. ⁸ I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: And they shall increase as they have formerly increased. ⁹ And I will sow them among the people: And they shall remember Me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and return again.

¹¹ And Josiah begot Jechoniah and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon.

⁹ And do not think to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped upon this mountain; and you all say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." ²¹ Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you shall neither upon this mountain, nor even at Jerusalem, worship the Father. ²² You worship what you do not know: We know what we worship: For salvation is of the Jews. ²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: For the Father is seeking such to worship Him. ²⁴ God is a Spirit: And those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."

⁹ Which was a figure for the time then present, within which both gifts and sacrifices were offered, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; ¹⁰ which stood only in foods and drinks, diverse washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. ¹¹ But Christ became a High Priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; ¹² neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

⁸ When He said above, "You would not like sacrifice, offering, burnt offerings, nor offerings for sin, neither had pleasure in them"; which are offered according to the law; ⁹ then He said, "Behold, I come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first, that He may establish the second.

¹⁹ Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by a new and living way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; ²¹ and having a High Priest over the house of God;

²¹ And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, "I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

³⁹ And it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look on it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that you seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you use to go a whoring:

²⁹ The secret things belong to the LORD our God: But those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

¹⁹ And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

⁸ And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that did not set their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

³ Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah.

² And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. ³ And many people shall go and say, "Come all of you, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths": For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. ⁴ And He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks: Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

¹ In the year that king Uzziah died I also saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and robe train filled the temple.

⁸ Yes, in the way of Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited for You; the desire of our soul is to Your name, and to the remembrance of You.

¹⁸ Lift up your eyes all around, and behold: All these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live", said the LORD, "you shall surely clothe yourselves with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on you, as a bride does. ¹⁹ For your waste and your desolate places, and the land of your destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up shall be far away. ²⁰ The children which you shall have, after you have lost the other, shall say again in your ears, 'The place is too strait for me: Give a place to me that I may dwell.' ²¹ Then you shall say in your heart, 'Who has begotten these to me, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and wandering to and fro? And who has brought these up? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?' " ²² Thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I will lift up My hand to the Gentiles, and set up My standard to the people: And they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders. ²³ And kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: They shall bow down to you with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am the LORD: For they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me."

⁶ Also the sons of the stranger, who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from polluting it, and takes hold of My covenant;

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

³ And the Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. ⁴ Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather themselves together, they come to you: Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be nursed at your side. ⁵ Then you shall see, and flow together, and your heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted to you, the forces of the Gentiles shall come to you. ⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come: They shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the LORD. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you: They shall come up on My altar with acceptance, and I will glorify the house of My glory. ⁸ Who are these that fly like a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? ⁹ Surely the isles shall wait for Me, and the ships of Tarshish will come first, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and their gold with them, to the name of the LORD your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: Where is the house that you build to Me? And where is the place of My rest?

²⁰ And they shall bring all your brothers out of all nations on horses for an offering to the LORD, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and on swift beasts, to My holy mountain Jerusalem", said the LORD, "as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

¹⁴ but have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:"

⁸ Yet they did not obey, nor inclined their ear, but everyone walked in the imagination of their evil heart: Therefore I will bring on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: But they did not do them.' "

²¹ Do not abhor us, for Your name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of Your glory: Remember, do not break Your covenant with us.

¹² and you have done worse than your fathers; for behold, all of you walk after the imagination of his evil heart, everyone, that they may not listen to Me:

¹² A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

¹² And they said, "There is no hope: But we will walk after our own devices, and we will, everyone, do the imagination of his evil heart."

²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring back their captivity; 'The LORD bless you, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.'

²⁶ And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: And on the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

⁷ And He said to me, "Son of man, the house of Israel shall no longer defile the place of My throne, and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever, and My holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcasses of their kings in their high places.

¹ But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow to it. ² And many nations shall come, and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths": For the law shall go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. ³ And He shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks: Nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. ⁴ But they shall sit, every man, under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken it. ⁵ For all people will walk, every one, in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.

¹¹ "And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be My people: And I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.

²⁰ Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, "Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also." ²² Yes, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.' ²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, "We will go with you: For we have heard that God is with you."

²¹ Because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

¹⁴ For sin shall not have dominion over you: For you are not under the law, but under grace.

⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds); ⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;

²⁶ But the Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: ¹⁹ Who being past feeling have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And He shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. ¹³ The envy of Ephraim shall also depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

¹⁵ But, 'The LORD lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands where he had driven them: And I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers.'

³ For lo, the days come', said the LORD, 'that I will bring again the captivity of My people Israel and Judah', said the LORD: 'and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.' "

⁴ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: They shall go, and seek the LORD their God.

²⁰ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: For I will pardon them whom I preserve.

¹⁶ moreover, you son of man, take for yourself one stick, and write on it, For Judah, and for his companions the children of Israel: Then take another stick, and write on it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions: ¹⁷ And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in your hand. ¹⁸ And when the children of your people shall speak to you, saying, 'Will you not show us what you mean by these?' ¹⁹ Say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in My hand." ' ²⁰ And the sticks on which you write shall be in your hand before their eyes. ²¹ And say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, where they have gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: ²² And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: And they shall no longer be two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.

²⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Now I will bring back again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for My holy name; ²⁶ after they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses by which they have trespassed against Me, when they dwelled safely in their land, and none made them afraid. ²⁷ When I have brought them back again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; ²⁸ then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: But I have gathered them to their own land, and have left none of them there any more.

¹¹ Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: For great shall be the day of Jezreel."

¹² Ephraim compasses Me around with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: But Judah still rules with God, and is faithful with the saints."

¹⁵ And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no longer be pulled up out of their land which I have given them", says the LORD your God.

⁶ And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them back again to place and settle them; for I have mercy upon them: And they shall be as though I had not cast them off: For I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.

²⁴ Yes, they despised the pleasant land, they did not believe His word:

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

¹⁶ Doubtless You are our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel does not acknowledge us: You, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer; Your name is from everlasting.

⁸ But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and we all are the work of Your hand.

⁴ Will you not from this time forward cry out to Me, 'My Father, You are the guide of my youth'?

⁷ How shall I pardon you for this? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by those that are not gods: When I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

¹⁰ Many pastors have destroyed My vineyard, they have trodden My portion under foot, they have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

³⁹ And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: ⁴⁰ And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.

⁶ in the day that I lifted up My hand to them, to bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:

⁹ And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceedingly great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.

¹⁶ But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: And he shall stand in the glorious land, which shall be consumed by his hand.

⁴¹ He shall also enter into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: But these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

⁴⁵ And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him."

⁸ How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you as Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My repentings are kindled together.

⁸ Therefore, do not be like them: For your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask Him. ⁹ In this manner, therefore, pray: 'Our Father which is in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

¹¹ He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. ¹² But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to those who believe on His name: ¹³ Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁵ For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry out, "Abba, Father." ¹⁶ The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: ¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if as should be we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you", ¹⁸ "And will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

²⁶ For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

⁵ to redeem those that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. ⁶ And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, "Abba, Father." ⁷ Therefore you are no longer a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

⁵ Having predestined us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back to perdition; but of those that believe to the saving of the soul.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

¹ Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. ² Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. ³ And every man that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as He is pure.

⁸ Yes, you heard not; yes, you knew not; yes, from that time your ear was not opened: For I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.

¹ "They say, "If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return to her again? Shall that land not be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me", said the LORD. ² "Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see where you have not been lain with. In the road you have sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness.

⁸ And I saw, that for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and wooden idols. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but feignedly", said the LORD.

¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against Me", said the LORD.

¹⁵ "But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one who passed by; his it was. ¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so. ¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them, ¹⁸ and took your broidered garments, and covered them: And you have set My oil and My incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My meat which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet smell: And thus it was", said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ "Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed these ones to them to be devoured. Are your whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain My children, and delivered and caused these ones to pass through the fire for them? ²² And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood. ²³ And it came to pass after all your wickedness, ('woe, woe to you!' said the Lord GOD); ²⁴ That you have also built to yourselves an eminent place, and have made a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at every head of a road, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms. ²⁶ You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ Behold, therefore I have outstretched My hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way. ²⁸ You have also played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ²⁹ Moreover you have multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet even with this you were not satisfied. ³⁰ How weak is your heart", said the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire; ³² but rather as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ³⁴ And you are contrary from other women in your whoredoms, in that no one follows you to commit whoredoms: And in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary." ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: ³⁶ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those who you have loved, with all those who you have hated; I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places: They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women: And I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and also you shall no longer give hire. ⁴² So I will make My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will no longer be angry. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted Me in all these things; behold, therefore I will also recompense your way upon your head", said the Lord GOD: "and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, everyone who uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, 'As is the mother, so is her daughter.' ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who lothes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: But, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live", said the Lord GOD, "Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: Therefore I took them away as I saw good.

¹ Then the LORD said to me, "Notwithstanding go, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagon pitchers of wine."

⁷ They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: For they have begotten strange children: Now a single month shall devour them with their portions.

⁷ But they have transgressed the covenant like average men: In this they have dealt treacherously against Me.

¹¹ Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of the LORD which He loved, and has married the daughter of a strange god.

³² And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you smitten your donkey these three times? Behold, I went out to withstand you, because your way is perverse before me:

²⁷ He looks on men, and if any say, "I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

⁹ He that walks uprightly walks surely: But he that perverts his ways shall be known.

³ The foolishness of man perverts his way: And his heart frets against the LORD.

² he has gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: On all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.

¹⁰ Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not been mindful of the rock of your strength, therefore you shall plant pleasant plants, and shall set it with strange vine branches:

³² Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.

¹⁵ Why do you cry for your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity: Because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you. ¹⁶ Therefore all they who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they who spoil you shall be a spoil, and all who prey upon you I will make a prey. ¹⁷ For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds', said the LORD; 'because they called you an Outcast, saying, "This is Zion, whom no man seeks after." '

⁴ In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: They shall go, and seek the LORD their God. ⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces towards it, saying, 'Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.'

¹⁶ But those of them who escape shall survive, and shall be upon the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, everyone for his iniquity.

³⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have forgotten Me, and cast Me behind your back, therefore bear also your lewdness and your whoredoms."

¹⁴ For Israel has forgotten his Maker, and builds temples; and Judah has multiplied fenced cities: But I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces of them."

⁶ According to their pasture, so they were filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore they have forgotten Me.

⁹ Hear this, I implore you, all you heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: And they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. ¹¹ In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. ¹² And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; ¹³ the family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; ¹⁴ all the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart."

¹⁰ For godly sorrow works out repentance to salvation, not to be regretted: But the sorrow of the world works death.

⁴ Draw me, we will run after you: The king has brought me into his chambers: We will be glad and rejoice in you, we will remember your love more than wine: The upright love you.

⁸ In measure, when Israel shoots forth, You will debate with it: He maintains His rough wind in the day of the east wind.

¹⁷ For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds', said the LORD; 'because they called you an Outcast, saying, "This is Zion, whom no man seeks after." '

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God.

⁶ Behold, I will bring it health and healing, and I will cure them, and will reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.

¹ Come, and let us return to the LORD: For He has torn, and He will heal us; He has smitten, and He will bind us up. ² After two days He will revive us: On the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.

⁴ "Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but Me: For there is no Savior besides Me.

⁴ "I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: For My anger is turned away from him.

⁸ Ephraim shall say, 'What have I to do with idols any more?' I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From Me your fruit is found."

⁹ And I will bring the one-third through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will prove them through testing as gold is proved: They shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is My people': And they shall say, 'The LORD is my God.' "

⁸ Salvation belongs to the LORD: Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah.

³⁹ But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.

¹ A Song of degrees. Shall I lift up my eyes to the hills? Where should my help come from? ² My help comes from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: For the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also has become my salvation.

¹¹ I, even I, am the LORD; and besides Me there is no savior.

⁹ Those who make a graven image, all of them are vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they do not see, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

¹⁵ Truly you are a God who hides Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

¹⁷ But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: You shall not be ashamed nor confounded for all eternity.

²⁰ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you who have escaped of the nations: They have no knowledge who set up the wood of their graven image, and pray to a god that cannot save.

⁷ They bear him on the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place he shall not move: Yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble. ⁸ Remember this, and show yourselves men: Bring it to mind again, O you transgressors.

¹ Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This one who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength? "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save."

¹⁴ Every man is brutish in His knowledge: Every founder is confounded by the graven image: For His molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, and the work of errors: In the time of their visitation they shall perish. ¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like them: For He is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of His inheritance: The LORD of hosts is His name.

⁸ O the Hope of Israel, his Savior in time of trouble, why should You be as a stranger in the land, and like a wayfaring man that turns aside to tarry for a night?

¹⁴ Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: For You are my praise.

⁷ But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen."

⁸ Those that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. ⁹ But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD."

²² You worship what you do not know: We know what we worship: For salvation is of the Jews.

¹³ For according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

⁶¹ Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.

⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

⁸ For she did not know that I gave her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

¹⁰ I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the first ripe fruit in the fig tree at her first harvest-time: But they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves to that shame; and their abominations were in accordance with that which they loved.

⁶ It shall also be carried to Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come on us, because our God is not among us? ¹⁸ And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have worked, in that they are turned to other gods.

² And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; you shall throw down their altars: But you have not obeyed My voice: Why have you done this?

⁶ and said, "O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to you, my God: For our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up to heaven. ⁷ Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. ⁸ And now for a little space grace has been showed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. ⁹ For we were servants; yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair its desolations, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. ¹⁰ And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken your commandments, ¹¹ which you have commanded by your servants the prophets, saying, "The land, to which you go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness. ¹² Now therefore do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth forever: That you may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever. ¹³ And after all that is come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this; ¹⁴ should we again break your commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? Would not you be angry with us till you had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping? ¹⁵ O LORD God of Israel, you are righteous: For we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: Behold, we are before you in our trespasses: For we cannot stand before you because of this.

³² Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keep covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before you, that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day. ³³ However, you are just in all that is brought on us; for you have done right, but we have done wickedly: ³⁴ Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies, with which you did testify against them.

⁷ Our fathers did not understand Your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of Your mercies; but provoked Him at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

²⁹ Let my adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This you shall have from My hand; you shall lie down in sorrow."

¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way?

²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.

²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes: Make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: For the spoiler shall come on us suddenly.

²¹ I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, 'I will not hear.' This has been your manner from your youth, that you have not obeyed My voice.

⁷ Our fathers have sinned, and are no more; and we have borne their iniquities.

¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head: Woe to us, that we have sinned!

¹⁸ They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness on all their heads.

³² I do not do this for your sakes", said the Lord GOD, "be it known to you: Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel."

⁶ Neither have we hearkened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our princes, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
