⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, 'The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.'

³ And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has the LORD struck us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh to us, so that when it comes among us it may save us out of the hand of our enemies." ⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts from there, which dwells between the cherubims: And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁴ They have also healed the hurt of the daughter of my people only slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace'; when there is no peace.

⁸ Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know; ¹⁰ and come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, 'We are delivered to do all these abominations?' ¹¹ Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it", said the LORD. ¹² "But all of you go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of My people Israel.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD has not sent you; but you make this people trust in a lie.

²³ because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken lying words in My name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness', said the LORD.

³¹ "Send to all them of the captivity, saying, 'Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; "Because that Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust in a lie":

¹⁹ And will you pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls who should not die, and to save alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to My people who hear your lies?"

¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

¹¹ In that day you shall not be ashamed for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against Me: For then I will take away out of the midst of you those that rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty because of My holy mountain.

⁹ And do not think to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewed down, and cast into the fire.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
