¹ But Job answered and said, ² hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations. ³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on. ⁴ As for me, is my complaint to man? And if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled? ⁵ Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth. ⁶ Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling takes hold on my flesh. ⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God on them. ¹⁰ Their bull engenders, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him? ¹⁶ See, their good is not in their hand: The counsel of the ungodly is far from me. ¹⁷ How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! And how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows in his anger. ¹⁸ They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carries away. ¹⁹ God lays up his iniquity for his children: He rewards him, and he shall know it. ²⁰ His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. ²¹ For what pleasure has he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the middle? ²² Shall any teach God knowledge? Seeing he judges those that are high. ²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. ²⁵ And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, and never eats with pleasure. ²⁶ They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them. ²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For you say, "Where is the house of the prince? And where are the dwelling places of the wicked? ²⁹ Have you not asked those that go by the way? And do you not know their tokens, ³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. ³¹ Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done? ³² Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. ³³ The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him. ³⁴ How then comfort you me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?

⁷ And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said to them, "Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.

³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

¹¹ Are the consolations of God small with you? Is there any secret thing with you?

² I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are you all.

² how long will it be ere you make an end of words? Mark, and afterwards we will speak.

¹ Why, Job, I implore you, hear my speeches, and listen to all my words.

³¹ Mark well, O Job, listen to me: Hold your peace, and I will speak. ³² If you have anything to say, "answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify you. ³³ If not, listen to me: Hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.

² hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge.

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹ Therefore we ought to give more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls on God, and he answers him: The just upright man is laughed to scorn. ⁵ He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him?

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth; they have smitten me on the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

²⁰ My friends scorn me: But my eye pours out tears to God.

² Are there not mockers with me? And does not my eye continue in their provocation?

⁹ And Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel: But they did not hearken to Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

¹⁶ Do not count your handmaid for a daughter of Belial: For out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now."

²⁶ And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king. ²⁷ And he said, "If the LORD do not help you, from where shall I help you? Out of the barn floor, or out of the winepress?

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should hope? And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. ¹² Am I a sea, or a whale, that you set a watch over me? ¹³ When I say, "My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaints; ¹⁴ then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions: ¹⁵ So that my soul chooses strangling, and death rather than my life. ¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: Let me alone; for my days are vanity. ¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him? And that you should set your heart on him? ¹⁸ And that you should visit him every morning, and try him every moment? ¹⁹ How long will you not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do to you, O you preserver of men? Why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself? ²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me.

Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My roaring? ² O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in the night season, and am not silent. ³ But You are holy, O You that inhabit the praises of Israel.

¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God: For I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

³ I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. ⁴ You hold my eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. ⁵ I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. ⁶ I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with my own heart: And my spirit made diligent search. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? ⁸ Is His mercy wholly gone forever? Does His promise fail forevermore? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He shut up His tender mercies in anger? Selah.

¹ A prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and pours out his complaint before the LORD. Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come to You.

² I poured out my complaint before Him; I declared before Him my trouble. ³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path. In the way in which I walked they have secretly laid a snare for me.

³⁸ And He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: Tarry here, and watch with Me."

¹⁹ And they said to him, "Hold your peace, lay your hand upon your mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: Is it better for you to be a priest to the house of one man, or that you be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?

¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

⁸ Upright men shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.

²⁰ My bone sticks to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. ²¹ Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

⁴ behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

⁹ I was dumb, I did not open my mouth; because you did it.

³² If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth.

¹³ Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

¹⁶ The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: They shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!

³ I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth on up: I am distracted while I suffer Your terrors.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of You; and I am afraid of Your judgments.

¹⁹ Remembering my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul still has them in remembrance, and is humbled within me.

¹⁶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: Rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: When he comes up to the people, he will invade them with his troops.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and those that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly.

¹⁰ They are enclosed in their own fat: With their mouth they speak proudly.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: They speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth. ¹⁰ Therefore his people return here: And waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. ¹¹ And they say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?" ¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind. ³ But You, O LORD, know me: You have seen me, and tried my heart toward You: Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

¹⁷ This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: To the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will, and sets up over it the basest of men.'

¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity: Why do You look upon those that deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?

¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

² And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: And the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. ³ And I saw one of his heads, how it was wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: And all the world wondered after the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" ⁵ And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given to him to continue for forty-two months. ⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, and His tabernacle, and those that dwell in heaven. ⁷ And it was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: And power was given to him over all tribes, and tongues, and nations.

² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication." ³ So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness: And I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. ⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colors, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication:

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

¹⁰ His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

¹⁴ From men which are Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure: They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁹ "I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him who is far off, and to him who is near", said the LORD; "and I will heal him." ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ "There is no peace", said my God, "for the wicked."

²⁶ Nothing there shall cast down their young, nor be barren, in your land: I will fulfill the number of your days.

¹³ And he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you: He will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which He swore to your fathers to give you. ¹⁴ You shall be blessed above all people: There shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your domestic beasts.

¹¹ And the LORD shall make you plenteous in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your domestic beasts, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.

¹³ That our granaries may be full, affording all manner of supply: That our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: ¹⁴ That our oxen may be strong to labor; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.

¹ For I considered all this in my heart, even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: No man knows either love or hatred by all that is before them. ² All things come alike to all: There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice: As is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

¹⁶ Moreover He spoke a parable to them, saying, "The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have no room where to stow my fruits?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will stow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?' ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

⁴¹ Yet He sets the poor on high from affliction, and makes him families like a flock.

³ Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: And the fruit of the womb is his reward. ⁴ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. ⁵ Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: They shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

²¹ And his brother's name was Jubal: He was the father of all that handle the harp and organ.

²⁷ Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth, and with songs, with tabor, and with harp?

¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tambourine, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: But they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of His hands.

¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.

⁴ that lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ that chant to the sound of the viol, and invent instruments of music for themselves, like David; ⁶ that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

¹¹ If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm.

³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and did not know until the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁸ Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them?

⁴ The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten: He hides His face; He will never see it."

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

²⁹ For they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad.

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God most high? I beseech You, do not torment me."

³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes all around implored Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: And He went up into the ship, and returned back again.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truth, you do not believe Me. ⁴⁶ Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not believe Me? ⁴⁷ He that is of God hears God's words: Therefore you do not hear them, because you are not of God."

²³ He that hates Me hates My Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they would not have had sin: But now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: For it is not subject to the law of God, indeed neither can be.

¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts they shall heap up to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned aside to fables.

² And Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go."

⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

³ For you said, "What advantage will it be to you? And, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

⁴ Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own: Who is lord over us?"our own: In Hebrew, with us

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny You, and say, 'Who is the LORD?' Or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

¹¹ Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

¹⁹ I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I did not say to the seed of Jacob, 'You seek me in vain': I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

⁶ According to their pasture, so they were filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore they have forgotten Me.

¹³ You all also said, 'Behold, what a weariness it is!' And you all have snuffed at it", says the LORD of hosts; "and you all brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; in this manner you all brought an offering: Should I accept this from your hand?", says the LORD. ¹⁴ "But cursed be the deceiver, which has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to the Lord a corrupt thing: For I am a great King", says the LORD of hosts, "and My name is frightening among the heathen."

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you:

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in My name: Ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.

⁶ O my soul, do not come into their secret counsel; to their assembly, my honor, do not be united with them: For in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they dug beneath and undermined a wall.

²¹ and said, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

⁹ Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has worked this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

¹ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.ungodly; or, wicked

⁶ Those that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

⁵ God shall likewise destroy you forever, he shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. ⁶ The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: ⁷ Lo, this is the man that did not make God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

⁸ Remove your way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house:

⁸ There is no man who has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither does he have power in the day of death: And there is no discharge from that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

² Therefore he called him, and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship; for you may no longer be steward.'

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹⁰ Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: But he that trusts in the LORD, mercy shall compass around him.

⁷ For we are consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. ⁹ For all our days are passed away in Your wrath: We spend our years as a tale that is told.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; for our lamps have gone out.'

⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁷ And in the greatness of Your excellency You have overthrown those that rose up against You: You sent forth Your wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

²⁵ Will you break a leaf driven to and fro? And will you pursue the dry stubble?

⁴ The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind: And let the angel of the LORD chase them.

¹³ O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

⁵ Moreover the multitude of your strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passes away: Yes, it shall be in an instant, suddenly.

²⁴ Yes, they shall not be planted; yes, they shall not be sown: Yes, their stock shall not take root in the earth: And He shall also blow on them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: You shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff. ¹⁶ You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: And you shall rejoice in the LORD, and shall glory in the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ "Therefore I will scatter them as the stubble that passes away by the wind of the wilderness.

³ Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff that is driven out of the threshing floor with the whirlwind, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

⁷ If you do well, shall you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And his desire shall be toward you, and you shall rule over him.

⁵ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them: For I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those that hate Me;

³⁴ Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those that hate me.

³⁹ And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: The LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

²⁴ Then you shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

⁵ He shall reward evil to my enemies: Cut them off in Your truth.

⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: Neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be continually be before the LORD, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth ¹⁶ Because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. ¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: As he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing as with a garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garment which covers him, and for a girdle with which he is continually girded. ²⁰ Let this be the reward of my adversaries from the LORD, and of those who speak evil against my soul. ²¹ But do this for me, O GOD the Lord, for Your name's sake: Because Your mercy is good, deliver me. ²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. ²³ I am gone like the shadow when it declines: I am tossed up and down as the locust. ²⁴ My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh fails without fatness. ²⁵ I also became a reproach to them: When they looked upon Me they shook their heads. ²⁶ Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to Your mercy: ²⁷ That they may know that this is Your hand; that You, LORD, have done it. ²⁸ Let them curse, but You bless: When they arise, let them be ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice. ²⁹ Let my adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. ³⁰ I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yes, I will praise Him among the multitude. ³¹ For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who condemn his soul.

²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

⁴ Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: Yet we had esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. ⁵ But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

²⁹ "In those days they shall say no more, 'The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'

² "What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'?

¹⁴ Now, lo, if he beget a son, who sees all his father's sins which he has done, and considers, and does not such like,

¹⁹ Yet you say, "Why? Does not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live. ²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

¹⁸ Then you all shall return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that does not serve Him.

¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break in and steal: ²⁰ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

²⁷ For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

³¹ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes: And some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar.

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

²¹ For He has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: The Lord reward him according to his works:

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her two-fold more according to her works: With the cup which she has filled, pour out to her double.

¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: He opens his eyes, and he is not.

³ You have showed Your people hard things: You have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He pours out of the same: But its dregs, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk the cup of his fury at the hand of the LORD; you have drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them."

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, who made all the earth drunk: The nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

¹⁵ And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: And He shall rule them with a rod of iron: And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

⁵ Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

²¹ His sons come to honor, and he knows it not; and they are brought low, but he perceives it not of them.

²³ But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.

²⁴ I said, "O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days: Your years are throughout all generations.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor in which I toiled under the sun: Because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

²⁷ Then he said, 'I beseech you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house: ²⁸ For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'

¹⁸ Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

¹⁵ Behold, he puts no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

¹⁷ Shall even he that hates right govern? And will you condemn him that is most just? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the wild beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

²² Behold, God exalts by his power: Who teaches like him?

² shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? He that reproves God, let him answer it.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods.

⁵ Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high, ⁶ who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being His counselor Has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and showed to Him the way of understanding?

²² It is He who sits on the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; that stretches out heaven as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in: ²³ Who brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth as vanity.

⁹ Woe to him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him who fashions it, 'What are you making?' Or your work, 'He has no handles?'

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?"

¹⁶ "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

³ Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life?

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

⁶ And the angels which did not keep their first estate, but left their own habitation, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.

¹ And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a large chain in his hand. ² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, ³ and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years are fulfilled: And after that he must be loosed for a little season.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead that were in them: And they were judged, every man according to their works. ¹⁴ Then death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating.

¹⁷ for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him.

⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

²⁷ Because he covers his face with his fatness, and makes bulges of fat on his flanks.

⁸ It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones.

⁸ For, said Hushai, you know your father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: And your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

¹² And she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jar: And behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

²⁰ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul;

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ He will not suffer me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating.

¹⁰ The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.

² A man to whom God has given riches, wealth, and honor, so that he wants nothing for his soul of all that he desires, yet God does not give him power to eat of it, but a stranger eats it: This is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

¹⁵ What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and Himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. ¹⁶ O LORD, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: So will you recover me, and make me to live. ¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: But in love to my soul You have delivered it from the pit of corruption: For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

¹⁶ Moreover He said to me, "Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: And they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment: ¹⁷ That they may want bread and water, and be astonished with one another, and consume away for their iniquity."

¹⁸ "Son of man, eat your bread with quaking, and drink your water with trembling and with carefulness;

¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. ¹⁹ The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: To the worm, You are my mother, and my sister.

²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

¹¹ His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

²⁰ The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

² All things come alike to all: There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice: As is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

¹¹ Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of your viols: The worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you.

⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. ⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.

³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; ⁵ if you would seek to God betimes, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ if you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

²⁰ The wicked man travails with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor. ²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him. ²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, "Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ For he stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the Almighty. ²⁶ He runs upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his buckler shields: ²⁷ Because he covers his face with his fatness, and makes bulges of fat on his flanks. ²⁸ And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps. ²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong its perfection on the earth. ³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away. ³¹ Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: For vanity shall be his recompense. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery. ³⁵ They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepares deceit.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

⁴ They run and prepare themselves without me even being at fault: Awake to help me, and behold.help: In Hebrew, meet

⁸⁶ All Your commandments are faithful: They persecute me wrongfully; You help me

²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answering said to them, "What are you reasoning in your hearts?

¹⁹ For this is thank-worthy, if for conscience toward God a man endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, "Depart, I implore you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest you be consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they got up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: And Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. ²⁸ And Moses said, "Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own mind. ²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed on them: And they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them: For they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up also.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

²² Those that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nothing.

⁷ yet he shall perish forever like his own dung: They which have seen him shall say, "Where is he?

³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵ God shall likewise destroy you forever, he shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. ⁶ The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

⁴ "I will bring it forth", says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones."

⁸ Neither do those which pass by say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you: We bless you in the name of the LORD."

⁵ The LORD at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath: But righteousness delivers from death.

⁴ The LORD has made all things for himself: Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

² God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies.

¹⁵ That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished: ¹⁰ But especially those that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. They are presumptuous, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries. ¹¹ Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, do not bring a railing accusation against them before the Lord. ¹² But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; ¹³ and shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to riot in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; ¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: They have a heart exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ but was rebuked for his iniquity: The mute donkey speaking with a man's voice hindered the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which are now kept in store by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

¹³ raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?"

¹⁰ and repays those that hate him to their face, to destroy them: He will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face.

⁷ And Nathan said to David, "You are the man. Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul; ⁸ and I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given to you such and such things. ⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For you did it secretly: But I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, Have you killed, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your blood, even yours. ²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you: Because you have sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the LORD. ²¹ Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will take away your posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, ²² and will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. ²³ And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

¹⁹ God lays up his iniquity for his children: He rewards him, and he shall know it.

¹¹ Who has prevented me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.

²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself: But I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes.

²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him: 'they have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.' ²² Asshur is there and all her company: His graves are about him: All of them slain, fallen by the sword: ²³ Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is all around her grave: All of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living. ²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which have gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: Her graves are all around him: All of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: Though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit: He is put in the midst of those who are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: Her graves are all around him: All of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war: And they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be on their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. ²⁸ Yes, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with those who are slain with the sword. ²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, which with their might are laid by those who were slain by the sword: They shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit. ³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. ³¹ Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword", said the Lord GOD. ³² "For I have caused My terror in the land of the living: And he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude", said the Lord GOD.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried;

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

²² which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

¹⁶ They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

²⁴ They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

⁴ One generation passes away, and another generation comes: But the earth stays forever.

⁷ Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment:

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.
