²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do to you, O you preserver of men? Why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself?

⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

⁴ The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: His eyes behold and His eyelids examine the children of men.

² The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that understand, and seek God.

⁷ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. ⁸ The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

¹²⁸ Therefore I esteem all Your precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

O LORD, You have searched me, and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. ³ You compass my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways, ⁴ for there is not a word in my tongue, but lo, O LORD, You know it altogether.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his goings.

³ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

¹³ He that covers his sins shall not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

⁸ The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' And those who handle the law did not know Me: The pastors also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

¹³ Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice', said the LORD.

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places such that I shall not see him?" said the LORD. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" said the LORD.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.'

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, ¹⁹ and am no longer worthy to be called your son: Make me as one of your hired servants." ' ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' ²² But the father said to his servants, 'Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner.'

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

¹² Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. ¹³ Was that which is good then made death to me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. ¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual: But I am carnal, sold under sin.

¹⁶ If then I do that which I do not intend, I consent to the law that it is good.

²² For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man:

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
