¹⁴ I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day long.

² And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria, and said, "What do these feeble Jews? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they make an end in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? ³ Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, "Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall. ⁴ Hear, O our God; for we are despised: And turn their reproach on their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

¹ But now those that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock. ² Yes, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished? ³ For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. ⁴ Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat. ⁵ They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief); ⁶ To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together. ⁸ They were children of fools, yes, children of base men: They were viler than the earth. ⁹ And now am I their song, yes, I am their byword.

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. ⁷ All those that see Me laugh Me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: Yes, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it; they tore at me, and did not cease: ¹⁶ As with hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹³ You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to those that are all around us.

¹¹ I also made sackcloth my garment; and I became a proverb to them. ¹² Those who sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to those that are all around us.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those who are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

³ For those that carried us away captive required a song from us there; and those that wasted us required mirth from us, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."

⁷ O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocks me.

²⁷ For was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves? For since you spoke of him, you skipped for joy.

⁶³ Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their music.

³⁹ And those that passed by reviled Him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, "You that destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save Yourself. If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ Likewise the chief priests also mocking Him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him: For He said, 'I am the Son of God.' " ⁴⁴ The thieves also, which were crucified with Him, cast the same in His teeth.

⁹ For I think that God has approved us apostles last, as it were appointed to death: For we are made a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place; ¹² and we labor, working with our own hands: Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: We are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things to this day.
