⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

⁹ But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

¹⁷ Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

² and said, "I cried by reason of my affliction to the LORD, and He heard me; out of the belly of hell I cried out, and You heard my voice. ³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed around me: All Your billows and Your waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, 'I am cast out of Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.' ⁵ The waters encompassed me, even to the soul: The depth closed me in all around, the weeds were wrapped about my head. ⁶ I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me forever: Yet You have brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

²⁰ And Jesus said to Him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

²¹ From that time forward Jesus began to show to His disciples how He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised again the third day.

²³ And they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised again." And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

⁴⁰ and saying, "You that destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save Yourself. If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross."

⁶³ saying, "Sir, we remember that while He was still alive, that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' ⁶⁴ Command therefore that the sepulcher be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night, and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He is risen from the dead': So the last error shall be worse than the first."

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
