¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

¹⁴ When you have come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell in it, and shall say, "I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; ¹⁵ you shall in any wise set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: One from among your brothers shall you set king over you: You may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.

¹³ Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so you shall damage the revenue of the kings.

²⁴ Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, on them.

⁴ There were also that said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that on our lands and vineyards.

³⁷ And it yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: Also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our domestic beasts, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

³⁷ After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the taxing, and drew away many people after him: He also perished; and even as many as obeyed him were all dispersed.

⁷ Whom Jason has received: And all of them do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus."

⁸ Meanwhile, he answered for himself, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended in anything at all."

²² But we desire to hear from you what you think: For concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere."

⁶ Because, for this reason you also pay tribute: For they are God's ministers, attending continually to this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: Tribute to whom tribute is due; customs to whom customs; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
