⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

¹⁴ And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, "Rise up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city." But he seemed as one that mimicks in derision to his sons-in-law.

³⁴ Then Jacob gave Esau bread and soup of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up, and went his way: Thus Esau despised his birthright.

²⁴ Yes, they despised the pleasant land, they did not believe His word: ²⁵ But murmured in their tents, and did not hearken to the voice of the LORD.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²⁴ Because I have called, and you refused; I have outstretched my hand, and no man regarded; ²⁵ but you have disregarded all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof:

²² He that received seed among the thorns is also he that hears the word; and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and did not know until the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be.

¹⁸ But they all in one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I really need to go and see it: I beseech you to have me excused.' ¹⁹ And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them: I beseech you to have me excused.' ²⁰ Yet another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so also shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even like this shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. ³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: And he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. ³² Remember Lot's wife.

¹³ Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

²⁵ Moreover as he reasoned about righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, "Go your way for now; when I have a convenient opportunity, I will call for you."

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

⁶ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while coveting after, some have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁴ traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect such great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those that heard Him;

¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
