¹⁶ Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated!'

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: They are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ Yes, they are greedy dogs who can never have enough, and they are shepherds who cannot understand: They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

³³ Again, you have heard that it has been said by those of old times, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord your oaths': ³⁴ But I say to you, Do not swear at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Nor by the earth, for it is His footstool: Neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

⁵ But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or his mother, "Whatever you might be profited by me, it is a gift"; ⁶ and does not honor his father or his mother, thinking he shall be exempt.' Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

¹⁴ Leave them alone: They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

¹⁷ You fools and blind: For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

¹⁹ You fools and blind: For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

²⁴ You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

³⁹ And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those which do not see might see; and that those which see might be made blind." ⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you should have no sin: But now you say, 'We see'; therefore your sin remains."

³ For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, do not swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath: But let your "Yes" be "Yes"; and your "No", "No"; lest you fall into condemnation.
