⁵ Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him,

²⁵ And large multitudes of people followed Him from Galilee, from Decapolis, from Jerusalem, from Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You.' ¹¹ Truly I say to you, Among those that are born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than him. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

⁵ And all the land of Judea went out to him, and those of Jerusalem, and were all baptized by him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷ Then he said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

¹⁶ The Law and the prophets were until John: Since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.

²³ Moreover John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was abundant water there: And they came, and were baptized.

³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: And you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
