¹ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. ² God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies. ³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet. ⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers: Bashan languishes, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languishes. ⁵ The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at His presence, yes, the world, and all that dwell in it. ⁶ Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.abide: In Hebrew, stand up ⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those that trust in Him. ⁸ But with an overrunning flood He will make an utter end of that place, and darkness shall pursue His enemies. ⁹ What do all you imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: Affliction shall not rise up the second time. ¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble. ¹¹ There is one that comes out of you, that imagines evil against the LORD, a wicked counselor.a wicked counselor: In Hebrew, a counselor of Belial ¹² Thus says the LORD; "Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet they shall be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. ¹³ For now I will break his yoke from off you, and will burst your bonds apart." ¹⁴ And the LORD has given a commandment concerning you, that, "Your name will not be sown any more: I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods: I will make your grave; for you are vile." ¹⁵ Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace! O Judah, keep your solemn feasts, perform your vows: For the wicked shall no longer pass through you; he is utterly cut off.the wicked: In Hebrew, Belial

¹¹ Out of that land went forth Asshur, and he built Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

²⁸ This burden was in the year that king Ahaz died.

¹ The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;

¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: And the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

¹ The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.

¹ The burden of the valley of vision. What ails you now, that you have wholly gone up to the housetops?

¹ The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: It is revealed to them from the land of Chittim.

³³ "And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask you, saying, 'What is the burden of the LORD?' you shall then say to them, 'What burden?' I will even forsake you", said the LORD. ³⁴ "And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, 'The burden of the LORD', I will even punish that man and his house. ³⁵ Thus you shall say, "everyone, to his neighbor, and everyone to his brother, 'What has the LORD answered?' and, 'What has the LORD spoken?' ³⁶ And the burden of the LORD you shall mention no more: Forevery man's word shall be his burden; for you have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts, our God. ³⁷ Thus you shall say to the prophet, 'What has the LORD answered you?' and, 'What has the LORD spoken?'

² "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me."

³ So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city of three days' journey across. ⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city one day's journey, and he cried out, and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."

⁸ But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: Yet they shall flee away. "Stand, stand", they shall cry; but none shall look back.

¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.

¹ The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be its resting place: When the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.

⁵ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them: For I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those that hate Me;

¹⁴ For you shall worship no other god: For the LORD, Whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

²⁴ For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

³⁴ Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures? ³⁵ To me belongs vengeance and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: For the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those that hate me. ⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges on the enemy. ⁴³ Rejoice, O you nations, with his people: For he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful to his land, and to his people.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve the LORD: For he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating.

¹ O LORD God to whom vengeance belongs, O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show Yourself.

¹³ The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, yes, roar; He shall prevail against His enemies.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk the cup of his fury at the hand of the LORD; you have drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

²⁰ Your sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: They are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of your God.

¹⁷ For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; and He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak. ¹⁸ According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, fury to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies; to the islands He will repay recompense.

³ "I have trodden the winepress alone; and from the people there was no one with me: For I will tread them in My anger, and trample them in My fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled on My garments, and I will stain all My clothing. ⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. ⁵ And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold: Therefore My own arm brought salvation to Me; and My fury, it upheld Me. ⁶ And I will tread down the people in My anger, and make them drunk in My fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹⁵ For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire.

⁵ Will he reserve his anger forever? Will he keep it to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil things as you could."

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: Lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings."

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.

⁷ It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return everyone from his evil way: For great is the anger and the fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people."

¹¹ The LORD has accomplished His fury; He has poured out His fierce anger, and has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has devoured its foundations.

¹³ Thus shall My anger be accomplished, and I will cause My fury to rest on them, and I will be comforted: And they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in My zeal, when I have accomplished My fury in them.

¹² He who is far off shall die of the pestilence; and he who is near shall fall by the sword; and he who remains and is besieged shall die by the famine: Thus will I accomplish my fury on them.

¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in fury: My eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: And though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them."

⁶ Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My fury, because you have borne the shame of the heathen:"

¹⁸ And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel", said the Lord GOD, "that My fury shall come up in My face.

²⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Now I will bring back again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for My holy name;

¹⁸ Then the LORD will be jealous for His land, and pity His people.

¹⁵ And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have never heard of."

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy.

¹⁴ So the angel that communed with me said to me, "Cry out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

² "Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.'

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; ⁶ who "will render to every man according to his deeds":

¹⁹ Dearly beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: For it is written, "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay", says the Lord.

⁴ For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain: For he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.

³⁰ For we know Him that has said, "Vengeance belongs to Me, I will recompense", says the Lord. And again, "The Lord shall judge His people."

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished:

¹⁶ And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the sound of the trumpet was exceedingly loud; so that all the people that were in the camp trembled. ¹⁷ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the lower part of the mount. ¹⁸ And Mount Sinai was altogether raging smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: And its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, "The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, to the third and to the fourth generation."

¹⁸ the LORD is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.

²² These words the LORD spoke to all your assembly in the mount out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: And he added no more. And he wrote them in two tablets of stone, and delivered them to me. ²³ And it came to pass, when you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire), that you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; ²⁴ and you said, "Behold, the LORD our God has showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire: We have seen this day that God does talk with man, and he lives.

¹¹ And he said, "Go forth, and stand on the mount before the LORD. And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: And after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: ¹² And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: And after the fire a still small voice. ¹³ And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, "What do you here, Elijah?

¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsook them not.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

¹⁴ If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from my iniquity.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the hills also moved and were shaken, because He was wroth. ⁸ There went up a smoke out of His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it. ⁹ He bowed the heavens also, and came down: And darkness was under His feet. ¹⁰ And He rode upon a cherub, and flew: Yes, He flew upon the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion all around Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. ¹² At the brightness that was before Him, His thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail stones and coals of fire. ¹⁴ Yes, He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot out lightning, and discomfited them. ¹⁵ Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

³ Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: A fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

¹¹ God has spoken once; twice I have heard this; that power belongs to God.

³ Say to God, "How frightening You are in Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.

² Clouds and darkness are all around Him: Righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His throne. ³ A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies all around. ⁴ His lightnings enlightened the world: The earth saw, and trembled. ⁵ The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

³ Who lays the beams of His chambers in the waters: Who makes the clouds His chariot: Who walks upon the wings of the wind:

⁸ The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

⁵ Great is our LORD, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.

¹³ I saw in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.

¹³ And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD your God: For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and it repents Him concerning the evil.

² And he prayed to the LORD, and said, "I implore You, O LORD, was this not my concern, when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled beforehand to Tarshish: For I knew that You are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and You repent of the evil.

⁵ Before Him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at His feet. ⁶ He stood, and measured the earth: He beheld, and drove apart the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills bowed down: His ways are everlasting. ⁷ I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: And the curtains of the land of Midian trembled.Cushan; or, Ethiopia ⁸ Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? Was Your anger against the rivers? Was Your wrath against the sea, that You rode upon Your horses and Your chariots of salvation? ⁹ Your bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even Your word. Selah. You have cleaved the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ The mountains saw You, and they trembled: The overflowing of the water passed by: The deep uttered its voice, and lifted up its hands on high. ¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: At the light of Your arrows they went, and at the shining of Your glittering spear. ¹² You marched through the land in indignation, You threshed the heathen in anger. ¹³ You went forth for the salvation of Your people, even for salvation with Your anointed; You wounded the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation to the neck. Selah. ¹⁴ You struck through the head of his villages with his staffs: They came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: Their rejoicing was to even devour the poor secretly. ¹⁵ You walked through the sea with Your horses, through the heap of great waters.

¹⁴ And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: And the LORD God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

⁶⁴ Jesus said to Him, "You have said it: Nevertheless I say to you all, in time to come you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

¹⁹ and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, ²⁰ which He worked in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places,

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

⁷ Behold, He comes with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and also those which pierced Him: And all tribes of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen.

¹³ And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand on a heap. ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; ¹⁵ and as those that bore the ark were come to Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overflows all his banks all the time of harvest),

¹¹ and said, "Till now shall you come, but no further: And here shall your proud waves be stayed?

¹⁵ You divided the fountain and the flood: You dried up mighty rivers.

⁷ At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.

⁹ He also rebuked the Red Sea, and it was dried up: So He led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

³ The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

⁵ What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you were driven back?

⁵ And the waters from the sea shall fail, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. ⁶ And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defense shall be emptied and dried up: The reeds and flags shall wither. ⁷ The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and everything sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. ⁸ The fishers shall also mourn, and all those who cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and those that spread nets on the waters shall languish. ⁹ Moreover those who work in fine flax, and those who weave networks, shall be confounded. ¹⁰ And they shall be broken in its purposes, all who make flood-gates and ponds for fish.

⁹ The earth mourns and languishes: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.hewn down; or, withered away

²⁷ Who said to the deep, "Be dry, and I will dry up your rivers":

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: Their fish stinks, because there is no water, and die for thirst. ³ I clothe heaven with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.

¹⁰ Are You not the One who has dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; who has made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: And I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it."

² And he said, "The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither."

⁸ seek Him that makes the seven stars and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night: That calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is His name:

²⁶ But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

¹⁸ And Mount Sinai was altogether raging smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: And its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

⁵ The mountains melted from before the LORD, even that Sinai from before the LORD God of Israel.

⁸ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yes, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ He also makes them to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.

⁶ The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

⁸ The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: Even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

⁷ Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who dwell in it.

⁴ The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

⁶ You mountains, that you skipped like rams; and you little hills, like lambs?

¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: ¹³ And on all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and on all the oaks of Bashan, ¹⁴ and on all the high mountains, and on all the hills that are lifted up,

¹ Oh that You would rend heaven, that You would come down, that the mountains might flow down at Your presence, ² as when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!

²⁴ I beheld the mountains, and lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.

⁴ And the mountains shall be molten under Him, and the valleys shall be split apart, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.

¹⁰ The mountains saw You, and they trembled: The overflowing of the water passed by: The deep uttered its voice, and lifted up its hands on high.

⁵¹ Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks fissured open;

² And behold, there was a large earthquake; for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which are now kept in store by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. ⁸ But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. ⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are in it shall be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you be in all holy conversation and godliness, ¹² looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. ²³ I will heap mischiefs on them; I will spend my arrows on them.

¹¹ And he said, "Go forth, and stand on the mount before the LORD. And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: And after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

¹² Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and all you perish from pursuing the way, when His wrath is kindled only a little. Blessed are all those that put their trust in Him.

⁷ You, even You, are to be feared: And who may stand in Your sight when at once You are angry?

¹¹ Who knows the power of Your anger? Even according to Your fear, so is Your wrath.

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory He shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

⁴ Fury is not in Me: Who would set the briers and thorns against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

¹⁰ But the LORD is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting King: At His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide His indignation.

⁴ He has bent His bow like an enemy: He stood with His right hand as an adversary, and slew all who were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: He poured out his fury like fire.

¹⁶ And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be torn asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily.

² God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies.

² "But who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:

¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?"

¹ And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth."

⁸ And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.

²⁰ And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: For they cried out to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

³⁴ O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good; for his mercy endures forever.

⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you did rely on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. ⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: Therefore from now on you shall have wars.

⁸ With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

¹¹ Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, "The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

²¹ And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, those that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

¹¹ And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks to the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endures forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: He will not withhold any good thing from those that walk uprightly. ¹² O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.

⁷ In the day of my trouble I will call upon You: For You will answer me.

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ² I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in Him I will trust."

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and which spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaves shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, nor shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: For the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever": And of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. ²⁵ The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

²⁸ Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Who has sent His angel, and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and has changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

²³ Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of injury was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

²³ And then I will profess to them, 'I never knew you: Depart from me, you that work iniquity.'

⁴³ He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him: For He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known by Mine.

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:

²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: On those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness: Otherwise you also shall be cut off.

⁹ But now, after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly principles, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His." And, "Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

⁸ He that does not love does not know God; for God is love. ⁹ In this the love of God was manifested toward us, in how God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

¹⁵ Terrors are turned on me: They pursue my soul as the wind: And my welfare passes away as a cloud.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.

⁷ now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up on them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: And he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: ⁸ And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

²² And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

¹⁷ I will also lay judgment on the line, and righteousness to the plummet: And the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, He turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even rend it with a stormy wind in My fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in My anger, and great hailstones in My fury to consume it.

²⁶ And after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself: And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end of it shall be with a flood, and until the end of the war desolations are determined.

²² And with the arms of a flood they shall be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of the covenant.

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, ³ "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us." ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: The LORD shall have them in derision.

¹¹ For they intended evil against You: They imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

¹⁰ The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nothing: He makes the devices of the people of no effect.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

⁹ Associate yourselves, O you people, and you shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all you of far countries: Gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand: For God is with us."

²⁵ Who by the mouth of Your servant David has said, 'Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the LORD, and against His Christ.' ²⁷ "For truly against Your holy Child Jesus, whom You have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel determined beforehand to be done.

⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

² As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁸ For wickedness burns as the fire: It shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall roll up like the lifting up of smoke.

¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may list them.

³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the LORD.

⁵⁷ And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

⁴ The best of them is as a brier: The most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: The day of your watchmen and your visitation comes; now shall be their perplexity.

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹² Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they did not know the LORD.

¹ And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: And he blew a trumpet, and said, "We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: Every man to his tents, O Israel.

¹³ Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them. ¹⁴ And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, "I have offended; return from me: That which you put on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

³⁰ Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

²² Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel. ²³ By your messengers you have reproached the LORD, and have said, "With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees of it, and the choice fir trees of it: And I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel. ²⁴ I have dig and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places. ²⁵ Have you not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that you should be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.

⁷ And there are gathered to him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

¹⁵ Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: For no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: How much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁶ And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah. ¹⁷ He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, "As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand. ¹⁸ Then they cried out with a loud voice in the Jews' speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city. ¹⁹ And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

⁷ However, he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off not a few nations. ⁸ For he said, "Are not my princes altogether kings?" ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, do so to Jerusalem and her idols? ¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed His whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped." ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up, as if it were not wood.

⁹ What do all you imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: Affliction shall not rise up the second time.

¹² For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt: I am the LORD.

³⁵ And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

³⁷ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: And they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

²⁰ On the same day the Lord shall shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: And it shall also consume the beard.

⁸ And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

³² As yet he shall remain at Nob that day: He shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. ³³ Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: And the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. ³⁴ And He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a Mighty One.

²⁴ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, "Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. ²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed on the whole earth: And this is the hand that is outstretched on all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall cancel it? And his hand is outstretched, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁴ And behold at time of evening trouble; and before the morning he is no more. This is the portion of those who spoil us, and the lot of those that rob us.

¹⁹ For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: You shall weep no more: He will be very gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when He shall hear it, He will answer you.

²⁸ And His breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the middle of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err. ²⁹ You shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel. ³⁰ And the LORD shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. ³¹ For through the voice of the LORD the Assyrian shall be beaten down, who smote with a rod. ³² And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with timbrels and harps: And He will fight with it in battles of shaking. ³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; He has made it deep and large: Its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.Tophet; or, Hell

⁸ "Then the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword shall devour him, not of a contemptible man; but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be routed.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

²² Thus said your Lord the LORD, and your God that pleads the cause of His people, "Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you shall no more drink it again:

¹⁸ Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. ¹⁹ The sun shall no longer be your light by day; neither shall the moon give light to you for brightness: But the LORD shall be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory. ²⁰ Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: For the LORD shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.

³¹ For the LORD will not cast off forever: ³² But though He cause grief, yet He will have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies.

¹⁹ Yes, the LORD will answer and say to His people, "Behold, I will send you grain kernels, and wine, and oil, and you shall be satisfied with them: And I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:

¹⁵ Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace! O Judah, keep your solemn feasts, perform your vows: For the wicked shall no longer pass through you; he is utterly cut off.the wicked: In Hebrew, Belial

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder.

⁴ For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

²⁷ And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

²⁵ That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains: Then his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

²⁰ "For from old times I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress'; when on every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot.

⁵ I will go myself to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: But these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows; because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out.

⁷ The memory of the just is blessed: But the name of the wicked shall rot.

²⁰ You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. ²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. ²² For I will rise up against them", says the LORD of hosts, and cut off the name from Babylon, and remnant, and son, and nephew", says the LORD.

¹³ Hear, you that are far off, what I have done; and, you that are near, acknowledge my might.

⁴ Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that sells nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts. ⁵ "Behold, I am against you", says the LORD of hosts; "and I will expose your skirts upon your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. ⁶ And I will cast abominable filth upon you, and make you vile, and will set you as a gazingstock.

² speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

⁴ These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons.

⁸ Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelled at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

⁹ O Zion, that brings good tidings, get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that brings good tidings, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" ¹⁰ Behold, the Lord GOD will come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him: Behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.

¹ Awake, awake; put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: For from now on the uncircumcised and the unclean shall no longer come into you.

⁷ How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace; who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation; who said to Zion, "Your God reigns!"

¹⁷ "So shall you know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain: Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no strangers shall pass through her any more.

¹¹ There is one that comes out of you, that imagines evil against the LORD, a wicked counselor.a wicked counselor: In Hebrew, a counselor of Belial ¹² Thus says the LORD; "Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet they shall be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

¹⁴ And the LORD has given a commandment concerning you, that, "Your name will not be sown any more: I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods: I will make your grave; for you are vile."

¹⁰ Then the angel said to them, "Do not fear: For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

¹⁴ "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

³⁶ The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (He is Lord of all):

¹⁵ And how shall they preach, except if they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"
