¹⁸ She perceives that her merchandise is good: Her candle does not go out by night.

⁴⁰ Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from my eyes.

² It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: For He gives His beloved sleep.

³ Those who were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: ⁴ But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. ⁶ And at midnight a cry was made, 'Behold, the bridegroom comes; go out to meet him.' ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; for our lamps have gone out.' ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, 'Not so, lest there not be enough for us and you: But rather go to those that sell, and buy for yourselves.' ¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage: And the door was shut.

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our labor and travail: For laboring night and day, because we would not impose upon any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

⁷ Because you yourselves know how you ought to follow us: For we ourselves did not behave disorderly among you; ⁸ neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: But worked with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable with a fault to any of you: ⁹ Not because we have no power, but to make ourselves an example to you, to follow us.
