⁷⁸ Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: But I will meditate in Your precepts.

¹⁰ Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the LORD had delivered you into my hand today in the cave: And some invited me to kill you: But my eye spared you; and I said, 'I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the LORD's anointed.' ¹¹ Moreover, my father, see, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand: For in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and I did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you; yet you hunt my soul to take it. ¹² The LORD judge between me and you, and the LORD avenge me of you: But my hand shall not be upon you.

¹⁷ And he said to David, "You are more righteous than I: For you have rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded you evil.

¹⁸ And he said, "Why does my lord pursue after his servant in this manner? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?

² But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law he meditates day and night.

³ O LORD my God, If I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands; ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me; (yes, I have delivered him who without cause is my enemy): ⁵ Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yes, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

³ Yes, let none that wait on You be ashamed: Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

⁷ For without cause they have hid their net in a pit for me, and without cause they have dug for my soul.

²⁶ Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together who rejoice at my hurt: Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.

⁴ Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: Those who would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty: Then I restored that which I did not take away.

³ They compassed me all around with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

²¹ You have rebuked the proud who are cursed, who go astray from Your commandments.

²³ Princes also sat and spoke against me: But Your servant did meditate in Your statutes.

⁵¹ The proud have held me in utter derision: Yet I have not declined from Your law.

⁸⁵ The proud have dug pits for me, who are not following Your law. ⁸⁶ All Your commandments are faithful: They persecute me wrongfully; You help me

³² And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him."

²⁵ But this came to pass, that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'

²⁰ For what glory is it if, when you are buffeted for your faults, you take it patiently? But if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
