⁷ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

⁵ And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is upon the seashore in multitude: And they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.

⁴ And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: And David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.

¹⁸ And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.

¹⁰ But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister to the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait on their business: ¹¹ And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: The show-bread also set they in order on the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: For we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but you have forsaken him. ¹² And behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight you not against the LORD God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.

¹⁶ And the children of Israel fled before Judah: And God delivered them into their hand.

¹¹ And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, "LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with those that have no power: Help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you.

¹² O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: But our eyes are on you. ¹³ And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. ¹⁴ Then on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the middle of the congregation; ¹⁵ and he said, "Listen you, all Judah, an d all you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat, Thus says the LORD to you, Do not be afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. ¹⁶ Tomorrow go down against them: Behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and you shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. ¹⁷ You shall not need to fight in this battle: Set yourselves, stand you still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: Fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: For the LORD will be with you. ¹⁸ And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: And all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. ¹⁹ And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high. ²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah, an d all you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.

⁸ With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of an army: A mighty man is not delivered by much strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety: Neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

¹⁷ I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations: Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

³¹ The horse is prepared against the day of battle: But safety is of the LORD.

¹⁶ But you said, "No; for we will flee on horses"; therefore you shall flee: And, "We will ride on the swift"; therefore those that pursue you shall be swift.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

⁵ Thus says the LORD; "Cursed is the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh the arm of his strength, and whose heart departs from the LORD.
