²² And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. ²³ And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, "You shall not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come on them in front of the mulberry trees. ²⁴ And let it be, when you hear the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall bestir yourself: For then shall the LORD go out before you, to smite the host of the Philistines.

⁹ So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: And they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: And there was no water for the host, and for the domestic beasts that followed them. ¹⁰ And the king of Israel said, "Alas! That the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab! ¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, "Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. ¹² And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. ¹³ And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, "No: For the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab. ¹⁴ And Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you. ¹⁵ But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came on him. ¹⁶ And he said, "Thus says the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. ¹⁷ For thus says the LORD, You shall not see wind, neither shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that you may drink, both you, and your domestic beasts, and your beasts. ¹⁸ And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: He will deliver the Moabites also into your hand. ¹⁹ And you shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones. ²⁰ And it came to pass in the morning, when the food offering was offered, that behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

¹⁰ For You, O God, have proved us: You have tried us, as silver is tried. ¹¹ You brought us into the net; You laid affliction upon our loins. ¹² You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: But You brought us out into a wealthy place.

⁹ You, O God, sent a plentiful rain, whereby You confirmed Your inheritance, when it was weary.

²³ Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: For He has given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

³ And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations: Knowing that tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope: ⁵ Now hope does not make us ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.

³⁷ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
