² oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: Therefore my words are swallowed up. ⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

²² Yes, his soul draws near to the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

¹¹ Be not far from Me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. ¹² Many bulls have compassed Me: Strong bulls of Bashan have beset Me around. ¹³ They gaped upon Me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of My bowels. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a broken clay pot fragment; and My tongue sticks to My jaws; and you have brought Me into the dust of death. ¹⁶ For dogs have compassed around Me: The assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: They pierced My hands and My feet. ¹⁷ I may count all My bones: They look and stare upon Me. ¹⁸ They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My clothing. ¹⁹ But You, O LORD, be not far from Me: O My strength, hasten to help Me. ²⁰ Deliver My soul from the sword; My darling self from the power of the dog. ²¹ Save Me from the lion's mouth: For You have heard Me from the horns of the unicorns.

¹⁷ And do not hide Your face from Your servant; for I am in trouble: Hear me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw near to my soul, and redeem it: Deliver me because of my enemies. ¹⁹ You have known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: My adversaries are all before You. ²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They also gave me gall for my food; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: My sore ran in the night, and did not cease: My soul refused to be comforted.

¹⁴ LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth on up: I am distracted while I suffer Your terrors.

¹⁸ Their soul abhors all manner of meat; and they draw near to the gates of death.

²⁶ They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: Their soul is melted because of trouble.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has beaten my life down to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. ⁴ Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.

³ He is despised and rejected by men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid our faces from Him as it were; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief: When you shall make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: By His knowledge my righteous servant shall justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, HJe has made me drunk with wormwood. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones, He has covered me with ashes. ¹⁷ And you have removed my soul far from peace: I forgot prosperity. ¹⁸ And I said, "My strength and my hope have perished from the LORD": ¹⁹ Remembering my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

³⁷ And He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. ³⁸ And He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: Tarry here, and watch with Me." ³⁹ And He went a little further, fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me: Nevertheless not as I will, but as You will."

³³ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and began to be greatly alarmed, and to be very heavy; ³⁴ And He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: Tarry here, and watch."
