⁴ For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: They shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

⁶ nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

⁴ Prepare yourselves for war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe to us! For the day goes away, for the shadows of the evening are outstretched.

⁸ Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas: I have brought against them, against the mother of the young men, a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon them suddenly, and terrors on the city.

²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza. ² Thus says the LORD; "Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those who dwell in it: Then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl. ³ At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands; ⁴ because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper who remains: For the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor. ⁵ Baldness has come on Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: How long will you cut yourself? ⁶ O sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself into your sheath, rest, and be still. ⁷ How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the seashore? There He has appointed it."

¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;" ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will stretch out My hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. ¹⁷ And I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay My vengeance on them." ' "

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: ⁷ But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, which shall devour its palaces: ⁸ And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and from him of Ashkelon that holds the scepter, and I will turn My hand against Ekron: And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish", says the Lord GOD.

⁵ Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. ⁶ "And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. ⁷ And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: But he that remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.
