⁸ so that we should keep the festival, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of wickedness and malignity; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¹⁵ Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. And from the first day you shall remove all leaven out of your houses. Whoever shall eat leaven from the first to the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from among Israel.

⁶ Six days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a festival to the Lord.

⁶ And on the fifteenth day of this month beginneth the festival of unleavened bread for the Lord. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

¹⁶ And in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, shall be the passover to the Lord, ¹⁷ and on the fifteenth day of the month shall commence the festival thereof. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

³ At it thou shalt not eat leaven. Seven days, at it, thou shalt eat unleavened bread; the bread of affliction, because you came in haste out of Egypt, that you may remember the day of your coming out of the land of Egypt, all the days of your life.

¹⁶ every male shall, three times in the year, appear before the Lord thy God, in the place which the Lord shall chuse; at the festival of unleavened bread, and at the festival of weeks, and at the festival of tabernacles. Thou shalt not appear before the Lord thy God empty handed.

¹⁴ Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him with sincerity and truth, and put away the strange gods which our fathers worshipped in beyond the river, and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

² Happy the man, to whose account the Lord will not charge sin, and in whose mouth there is no guile.

⁴ On recollecting these things, I have poured out my soul by myself. Since I am to pass on, at the place of an awful tabernacle, to the house of God, with a voice of joy and praise; with the acclamations of them who celebrate a festival:

⁶ then will the Lord of Hosts make provision for all the nations. On this mount they shall drink gladness:

²⁹ before their face ought not you to rejoice continually and continually go to my solemnities like them who are celebrating a festival? Like them who are gladdened you should go with instrumental music to the mount of the Lord, to the God of Israel.

⁶ And Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.

¹² Then they understood that he did not caution them against the leaven of the bread, but against the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

⁴ and were consulting how they might take Jesus by surprise and kill him. ⁵ And they said, Not at the festival, that there may not be a tumult among the people.

¹⁵ And he gave them a charge, saying, Take heed; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod.

¹ by which myriads of the people being drawn together, so as to trample upon one another, he took occasion to say to his disciples, Above all, things beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy;

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him and saith respecting him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile!

²⁸ From Caiaphas they led Jesus away to the judgment hall of the Roman governor. Now it was early in the morning and they themselves did not go into the hall that they might not be polluted, but that they might eat the passover. ²⁹ Pilate therefore came out to them and said, What accusation do you bring against this man? ³⁰ They in reply, said to him, If he were not a malefactor we would not have delivered him over to thee.

³ For you are yet carnal; for while there is among you envy and strife and divisions, are you not carnal and walking in the ways of man?

¹ It is currently reported that there is among you an act of lewdness, and of such a sort as is not named among the nations, so that one hath his father's wife:

⁶ This boasting of yours is unbecoming. Do you not know that a little leaven leaveneth the whole mixture?

⁹ Do you not know that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the voluptuous, nor sodomites, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor such as indulge inordinate desires, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ Now such some of you were; but, you have washed yourselves; but you are hallowed, but you are acquitted by the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God.

¹² For this is the matter of our boasting; the testimony of our conscience, that with simplicity and godly sincerity, not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and more especially towards you.

⁸ I do not say this by way of command, but am, during the exertion of others, proving the genuineness of your love.

²⁰ For I am afraid lest when I come I shall not find you such as I wish, and that you will not find me such as you wish; lest should there be debates, envyings, animosities, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings and tumults, ²¹ my God humble me when I come to you again, and I cause many of those who have sinned, and have not begun a reformation, to grieve for the impurity, and fornication, and lasciviousness which they have committed.

¹⁷ This therefore I say and testify in the Lord, that you no more walk, as the rest of the nations do, in the vanity of their mind. ¹⁸ They having their understandings darkened, being alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance which is in them, by reason of the blindness of their heart, ¹⁹ have without remorse abandoned themselves to the commission of every uncleanness with inordinate desire. ²⁰ But you have not thus learned the Christ; ²¹ inasmuch as you have heard him and been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus, ²² with respect to your former course of life, to put off the old man, which is corrupted by deceitful desires,

²⁴ this favour be with all them who love our Lord Jesus Christ without any mixture of Corruption. Amen.

¹ Therefore laying aside all malice, and all deceit, and every kind of hypocrisy, envy and slander, ² like newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word that by it you may thrive.

² to the end that he may no longer live the rest of his time in flesh for the lusts of men; but for the will of God.

¹⁸ My children, let us not love in word, and with the tongue, but in deed, and in truth. ¹⁹ When we know by this that we are of the truth, let us in his presence persuade our hearts, ²⁰ in respect to what things soever our heart condemneth us, that God is greater than our hearts, and that he knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart doth not condemn us, we have confidence towards God,
