¹ With regard to the elders among you, being myself a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and a partaker of the glory about to be revealed, I give them this exhortation ² Tend the flock of God which is among you, watching over it, not by constraint, but willingly; not with a view to sordid gain, but with a ready mind; ³ not as exercising dominion over the lots, but as being examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the chief shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive an unfading crown of glory. ⁵ Likewise ye who are young, submit to those more advanced in years. And being all submissive to one another; adorn yourselves with humility; because "God resisteth the proud and granteth favour to the humble;" ⁶ therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may in due time exalt you. ⁷ Having cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you, ⁸ be sober, be watchful: because your adversary the devil is walking about, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, ⁹ him you should resist, standing firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are undergone by your brotherhood in the world. ¹⁰ Now may the God of all favour, who hath invited us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, when we have suffered a little may he himself fit, support, strengthen and establish you! ¹¹ To him be the glory and the power, for the ages of the ages. Amen. ¹² By Sylvanus the faithful brother I have, as I reckon, written briefly to you, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true favour of God for which you stand up. ¹³ The congregation at Babylon salute you. So doth Marcus my son. ¹⁴ Salute one another with a holy kiss. Peace be with you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

¹⁹ But I know that Pharao king of Egypt will not suffer you to go, but by a strong hand.

³ Then Moses and Aaron went in before Pharao and said to him, Thus saith the Lord the God of the Hebrews. How long wilt thou refuse to reverence me? Send away my people that they may serve me.

¹¹ Upon which Moses made supplication before the Lord God and said, Shouldst thou, Lord, be provoked to wrath against thy people, whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with thine uplifted arm,

⁶ And the Lord passed by before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the God compassionate and merciful, long suffering and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping kindness and mercy for thousands, taking away transgressions, iniquities and sins, will by no means clear the guilty, when he bringeth the transgressions of fathers on children and children s children to the third and fourth generation.

³² you shall rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of an elder, and fear thy God. I am the Lord your God;

⁴¹ and I have walked with them in vengeful ire. When I am destroying them in the land of their enemies, then will their uncircumcised heart be ashamed, and then will they bear their sins with humble submission;

⁹ And the Lord's portion was his people Jacob; Israel was his lot of inheritance.

³⁵ In the day of vengeance I will requite, When their foot shall be supplanted. Because the day of destruction is nigh for them, Therefore at hand are the things prepared for you.

⁵ Then Sampson went down, with his father and his mother to Thamnatha, and when he came to the vineyard of Thamnatha, behold, a young roaring lion met him;

Take away thy wine, and depart from the presence of the Lord, ¹⁵ And Anna answered, and said, No, my lord. I am a woman in deep affliction. I have not drunk wine nor strong drink; but am pouring out my soul before the Lord. ¹⁶ Count not thy handmaid a daughter of wickedness, because, out of the abundance of my deep meditation, I have continued till now. ¹⁷ Then Eli in reply said to her, Go in peace. May the God of Israel grant thee thy petition, which thou hast asked of him. ¹⁸ And she said, Thy servant hath found favour in thy sight. Then the woman went away, and when she came to her lodging, she ate and drank with her husband, and her countenance was no more dejected.

⁶ And David was in great distress, for the people talked of stoning him; for the soul of all the people was exasperated, every one for his sons, and his daughters. David, however, was strengthened by the Lord his God.

²⁹ Hast thou seen how Achab is struck with compunction on account of me? I will not bring on the calamity in his days; but in the days of his sons I will bring it on.

¹⁹ because thy heart was softened and thou didst humble thyself on the account of them soon as thou didst hear what I had spoken against this place and the inhabitants thereof; that they should become a desolation and a curse; and didst rend thy clothes and weep before me; for I heard, saith the Lord;

⁴¹ And, now, arise, Lord God, into thy rest, thou and the ark of thy strength. Let thy priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and thy children made glad with good things.

⁶ Whereupon the chiefs of Israel and the king were ashamed and said, The Lord is righteous. ⁷ And when the Lord saw that they were ashamed, a word of the Lord came to Samaias saying, They are ashamed. I will not destroy them utterly, but will in a little while grant them deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem.

¹² But when he became humble the wrath of the Lord was turned from him; for it was not for utter destruction; for still there were good things in Juda.

¹¹ But the men of Aser, and some of Manasses and Zabulon were humbled, and came to Jerusalem, and to Juda.

²⁶ Thereupon Ezekias humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them, during the days of Ezekias.

¹² And when he was afflicted he sought the favour of the Lord his God, and humbled himself exceedingly before the God of his fathers,

¹⁹ and how God hearkened to him at the words of his prayer; and all his sins and his apostasies; and the places on which he built mounts and erected bowers, and graven images before his conversion; behold they are written among the words of the seers.

²³ and did not humble himself before the Lord as Manasses his father had humbled himself. Because his son Amon multiplied transgression,

¹² and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord his God, and was not brought to a sense of shame by Jeremias, the prophet, speaking from the mouth of the Lord,

⁶ To which Esther replied, The adversary is Haman, this bad man. At this Haman was struck with consternation for fear of the king and the queen.

²² Behold the Almighty will strengthen with his strength: for who is powerful as he? Or who can examine his works?

¹ A Psalm by David. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall want nothing.

¹³ I am confident of seeing the goodness of the Lord, in the land of the living. ¹⁴ Wait for the Lord and be of good courage; let thy heart be strengthened and wait for the Lord.

¹² Happy is the nation, whose God is the Lord; the people, whom he hath chosen for his heritage.

¹⁵ The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous: and his ears are open to their prayer.

⁵ Lay open thy way before the Lord, and trust in him; and he will accomplish;

²² Cast thy care on the Lord, and he will sustain thee. He will never suffer the righteous to be shaken.

³ let them be confounded. But let me trust in thee: ⁴ to God let me commend my words. In God I have trusted all the day long: I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

²⁴ with thy counsel thou hast guided me, and taken me to thyself with glory. ²⁵ For what is there in heaven for me; or what on earth have I desired, besides thee?

² Remember thy congregation which thou hast purchased of old; this portion of thine inheritance which thou hast redeemed; this mount Sion on which thou hast dwelt.

¹⁰ [J] I will break all the horns of sinners, but the horn of the righteous shall be exalted.

⁷¹ he took them from tending the ewes with young to feed his servant Jacob and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² And he fed them in the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skill of his hands.

⁵ for thou, Lord, art kind and gentle, and plenteous in mercy to all who invoke thee.

¹⁵ But thou, Lord God, who art merciful and gracious, long suffering and abundant in goodness and truth,

⁴ Shall I mention Rahab or Babylon to those gaining a knowledge of me? Behold the Philistines and Tyrians, and the tribe of the Ethiopians say, Such and such were born there.

¹³ Thine arm is endowed with power; let thy hand be strong; thy right hand exalted.

¹⁶ and rejoice in thy name all the day long, and be exalted by thy righteousness. ¹⁷ For thou art the glory of their strength; and by thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

⁶ "Set a sinner over him; and let an accuser stand at his right hand.

⁹ Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness, and thy saints shout for joy.

¹⁶ Her priests I will clothe with salvation; and her saints shall shout for joy.

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou canst keep me alive. Against the rage of enemies thou hast stretched forth thy hand: and thy right hand hath saved me.

⁴ I looked to the right; and observed that none was there, who knew me. Flight was cut off from me; and is he not earnestly seeking my life? ⁵ To thee, O Lord, I cried and said, Thou art my hope; my portion in the land of the living.

³⁴ The Lord resisteth the proud; but he granteth favour to the humble.

¹² The threat of a king is like the roaring of a lion; but his favour is like dew on the grass.

² The threat of a king is like the rage of a lion; and he who provoketh him sinneth against his own life.

²³ A man's pride will bring him low: but the Lord will gloriously support the humble.

⁸ If thou wouldst not make thyself known, fairest of women; go out by thyself in the track of the flock; and feed thy kids by the shepherds tents.

¹¹ "For the eyes of the Lord are lofty; but man is low; and the loftiness of these men shall be humbled; and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

²⁹ They growl like lions, and are at hand like young lions. He will seize and roar like a wild beast and drive out the people, and there shall be none to deliver them. ³⁰ On that day he will roar against them like the roaring of the billowy sea; and they will look upwards to the heaven and down on the earth; and lo! distressful darkness in their tribulation.

⁸ Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go to this people? And I said, Behold, here am I: send me.

¹² How is Lucifer fallen from heaven! He who was harbinger of the morning; he who sent messages to all the nations is trampled down into the earth. ¹³ Thou indeed didst say in thy heart, I will ascend up into heaven; above the stars of heaven I will place my throne; I will seat myself on a lofty mountain; on the lofty mountains which face the north.

⁴ Let every valley be filled up, and every mountain and hill be levelled: and let all the crooked be made a straight road, and the rough way, smooth plains:

¹¹ Like a shepherd he will tend his flock; and with his arm he will gather the lambs, and comfort the ewes that are with young.

⁸ because he who justified me is near at hand. Who is he that contendeth with me? Let him stand up with me face to face. Yes, let my accuser, whoever he be, come near me.

¹¹ yet these dogs are of untamed appetite; they can never have enough. They are indeed mischievous, they have no consideration. They all followed their own courses, every one according to his own purpose.

¹⁵ Thus saith the Most High, who on earth inhabiteth eternity, who is Holy among holies; whose name is THE MOST HIGH; who at rest in the holies giveth patience to the humble, and life to them who are of a contrite heart;

¹⁰ And they shall rejoice in the Lord with joy.[c] Rejoice in the Lord, my soul, for he hath clothed me with the mantle of Salvation, and with an under garment of gladness, he hath crowned me as a bridegroom with a crown and adorned me as a bride, with jewels,

¹¹ though he remembered the days of old. O! where is he who caused the shepherd of his flock to come up out of the sea? Where is he, who put his holy spirit in them?

² For all these things my hand hath made: and all these things are mine saith the Lord. Upon whom therefore will I look down, but upon him only who is humble and quiet, and who trembleth at my words?

¹⁵ Against him lions roared and uttered their voice: they have made his land a desert and his cities are demolished so as to be uninhabitable.

¹³ because from the least of them to the greatest, they have all committed unrighteous deeds; from the priest to the false prophet, they have all practised falsehoods,

¹⁰ I will give their wives to others and their fields to them who will take possession, that they may gather the products thereof, saith the Lord.

¹⁷ But if you will not hearken, your soul shall weep in secret for your haughtiness; and tears shall gush from your eyes; because the flock of the Lord is destroyed. ¹⁸ [J] Say to the king and the rulers: Humble yourselves and sit on the ground; for from your head is taken your crown of glory.

²⁰ Raise thine eyes, O Jerusalem, and see them who are coming from the north! Where is the flock that was given thee; the flock of thy glory?

¹⁰ They have not indeed even to this day desisted, nor have they adhered to the ordinances which I set before their fathers;

³⁸ Because they roused together like lions and like lions' whelps;

²¹ In every engagement his men shall fall by the sword; and them who are left I will scatter to every wind; and you shall know that I the Lord have spoken.

⁷ and prowled with fierceness, and made their cities a desolation and laid waste the land, and the fulness thereof by the sound of his roaring.

⁶ Therefore, son of man, heave thou convulsive groans, and sigh sorrowfully before their eyes.

²⁵ Its princes in the midst of it were like roaring lions, ravening prey, devouring souls by oppression, yet receiving honours; and thy widows were multiplied in the midst of thee.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel: prophesy and say to the shepherds, Thus saith the Lord, Lord, Shepherds of Israel! Do shepherds feed themselves? Do not the shepherds feed their flocks? ³ Behold you devour the milk and clothe yourselves with the fleeces, and that which is fat you slaughter; but my flock you do not feed. ⁴ You have not strengthened the weak, nor cured the diseased. That which was bruised you have not bound up, nor brought back that which was going astray; nor have you searched for that which was lost: but you have wearied out the strong with toil,

²³ And I will set up over them one shepherd who shall feed them, even my servant David, who shall be their shepherd:

²⁴ And my servant David shall be chief among them. He shall be singly the shepherd of all. Because they will walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and practise them,

²² Now thou, Baltasar, his son, hast not therefore humbled thy heart before this God. Hast thou not known all these things?

²⁴ Then the king commanded and they brought the men who had accused Daniel, and they and their sons and their wives were cast into the den of the lions. And before they reached the bottom of the den the lions had such mastery over them that they broke all their bones.

³ And they who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and some of the many righteous like the stars for the ages and longer.

¹⁰ Am I to follow the Lord? Will he roar like a lion? And because of his roaring, will the children of waters be affrighted?

⁸ I will meet them as a bear bereaved of her cubs, and rend the covering of their heart; and the young lions of the forest shall there devour them; and the beasts of the field shall tear them to pieces.

¹⁶ and the Lord will utter a shout from Sion, and from Jerusalem he will send forth his voice; and the heaven and the earth shall be shaken: but the Lord will spare his people and strengthen the sons of Israel.

² And he said, From Sion the Lord hath spoken with majesty, and from Jerusalem he uttered his voice, and the pastures of the shepherds mourned, and the top of Carmel withered.

⁴ Will a lion roar from his forest when he hath no prey? Will a young lion utter a continued roar from his den unless he be tearing something?

⁸ shall a lion roar and none be struck with dread? Hath the Lord spoken and will none prophesy?

¹¹ [J] Her rulers have judged for rewards; and her priests have given answers for hire; and her prophets have prophesied for silver, without waiting for the Lord, saying, "Is not the Lord among us? No evils shall come upon us:"

⁴ And they will stand and look and the Lord will feed his flock with majesty; and in the glory of the name of the Lord their God they shall subsist; because they shall now be magnified to the ends of the earth;

⁸ [Balaam.] "Must thou, man, be told what is good? What doth the Lord require from thee, but to do justice and to love mercy, and to be prepared to walk with the Lord thy God?"

¹⁴ [p] Feed thou thy people with thy crook; the flock of thy heritage; them who are by themselves in a forest in the midst of yonder Carmel. [J] They shall feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto thee, taking away iniquities, and passing by the transgressions of the remnant of his heritage? He hath not kept his anger in remembrance; because he delighteth in mercy; ¹⁹ he will turn and have compassion on us: he will bury deep our iniquities: they shall be whelmed in the depths of the sea.

¹ Then the Lord shewed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan stood at his right hand to oppose him.

⁶ And I will strengthen the house of Juda, and save the house of Joseph, and settle them in their houses, because I have loved them: and they shall be as if I had not cast them off; for I am the Lord their God and I will hearken to them:

¹² And I will strengthen them in the Lord their God, and in his name they shall boast; saith the Lord.

³ A sound of shepherds singing the song of Woe, because their greatness is involved in distress; a sound of lions roaring, because the swelling of the Jordan hath distressed them.

¹⁷ ye feeders of vanities who have forsaken the sheep. There is a sword against his arms, and against his right eye. Shall his arm be quite withered, and his right eye utterly put out?

⁷ Awake, sword, against my shepherds, and against my chief citizen, saith the Lord Almighty; I will smite the shepherds and the sheep shall be scattered and I will bring my hand on the little ones.

¹⁰ Since by you the doors will be shut, and a fire will not be kindled on mine altar for nothing, I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord Almighty; nor will I accept a sacrifice at your hands.

¹ Then Jesus was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

¹¹ Then the devil leaveth him, and lo! angels came and ministered to him.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; nor about your body, what you shall wear. Is not life a greater gift than food; and the body, than raiment? ²⁶ Observe those birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap, nor lay up in granaries; yet your heavenly father feedeth them. Are not you much more valuable than they?

³³ But seek first the kingdom of God, and the righteousness required by him, and all those things will be superadded to you. ³⁴ Wherefore be not anxious about the morrow; for the morrow will be anxious about its own concerns. Sufficient for every day is its own trouble.

³⁹ The enemy who sowed it is the devil. The harvest is the conclusion of the age, and angels are the reapers.

²⁵ Whereupon Jesus having called them to him, said, You know that the chiefs of the nations exercise dominion over them; and they who are grandees exercise authority over them: ²⁶ but it shall not be so among you. But whoever among you would wish to be great, let him be your attendant.

⁸ But as for you, be ye not called Rabbi; for one is your teacher, namely the Christ. Now as for you all, ye are brethren, ⁹ and should call no one on earth your father, for one is your father, namely, he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be ye called leaders for one is your leader, namely the Christ.

¹² For who soever exalteth himself, shall be humbled, but he who humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

⁴² Watch therefore, because you know not at what season your lord cometh.

⁴⁸ But if that servant being wicked should say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; ⁴⁹ and begin to beat his fellow tenants, and to eat and to drink with drunkards; ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant will come on a day he least expecteth, and at an hour of which he is not aware

³¹ So when the son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him; he will then sit on the throne of his glory. ³² And before him shall be assembled all the nations. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats. ³³ And he will place the sheep on the right hand and the goats on his left. ³⁴ Then the king will say to them on his right, Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom which hath been prepared for you from the formation of the world: ³⁵ for I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you lodged me; ³⁶ naked, and you clothed me; sick, and you took care of me; I was in prison, and you visited me. ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and feed thee; or thirsty, and give thee drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and lodged thee; or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came to thee? ⁴⁰ And the king in reply will say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done this to one of these my brethren, even the least, you have done it to me. ⁴¹ Then he will say to them on his left, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the fire which is everlasting; that prepared for the devil and his angels!

³⁸ Now he was in the stem, asleep on a pillow. And they awake him, and say, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish?

⁴² but Jesus, having called them to him, said to them, You know that the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them; and their grandees exercise authority over them; ⁴³ but it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you, let him be your attendant: ⁴⁴ and whoever of you would be first, let him be the servant of all. ⁴⁵ For the son of man did not come to be waited on, but to serve; and to give his life as a ransom for many,

⁵² From thrones he hath hurled potentates, and exalted them of low degree.

³ Whereupon the devil said to him, If thou art Son of God, command that stone to become a loaf of bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, that man can live, not by bread only, but by whatever God appointeth. ⁵ Now the devil having taken him up to a high mountain, had shewed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited land, in a moment of time, ⁶ and the devil said to him, To thee I will give all this dominion and the glory of these; for to me it is delivered over, and I give it to whom I please. ⁷ If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. ⁸ Thereupon Jesus, answering him, said, Get thee behind me, Satan, for it is written, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only thou shalt serve." ⁹ He had also brought him to Jerusalem and placed him on the battlement of the temple, and said to him, If thou art the son of God, throw thyself down from this; ¹⁰ for it is written, that He will give his angels a charge concerning thee to preserve thee; ¹¹ and that With their hands they will bear thee up, shouldst thou peradventure dash thy foot against a stone. ¹² In reply to which, Jesus said to him, It is said," Thou shalt not try the Lord thy God."

¹¹ Now when they bring you before their synagogues, and magistrates, and rulers, be not anxious how or what defence you shall make, or what you shall say: ¹² for the holy spirit will teach you that very instant, what you ought to say.

²² Then he said to his disciples, For this cause I say to you, be not anxious about your life, what you shall eat; nor for your body, what you shall wear.

³⁰ For about all these things the nations of the world are inquisitive: but your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. ³¹ But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be superadded to you. ³² Fear not, little flock. Because it hath pleased your Father to give you that kingdom,

⁴⁵ But should that servant say in his heart, My master delayeth his coming, and begin to beat the men servants, and maid servants, and to eat and drink and carouse; ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day when he doth not expect him, and in an hour he is not aware of, and will scourge him in the severest manner, and assign him his portion with the unfaithful.

¹¹ For whoever exalteth himself, shall be humbled, and he who humbleth. himself, shall be exalted.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house acquitted, and not the other. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be humbled, but he who humbleth himself shall be exalted.

³⁴ Take heed therefore to yourselves that your hearts be not overloaded with excess of meat, or drink, or worldly cares, and that day come upon you unawares.

³⁶ Watch therefore, on every occasion, praying that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which will soon come to pass; and to stand before the son of man.

²⁴ Now there had been a contest among them in respect to this, which of them should be the greatest. ²⁵ Therefore he said to them, The kings of the nations exercise dominion over them. And they who tyrannise over them are stiled benefactors. ²⁶ But with you it must not be so. But let the elder among you be as the younger; and the leader as he who waiteth at table. ²⁷ For which is greater; he who is at table; or he who waiteth? Is not he, who is at table? But I am among you as he who waiteth.

³¹ Then the Lord said to Simon, Simon! behold Satan hath earnestly requested to have you in his power, that he may sift you as wheat: ³² and I have prayed for thee that thy faith may not quite fail. When thou therefore hast recovered thyself, strengthen thou thy brethren.

⁴⁸ Now you are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and bent upon executing the desires of your father. He was a manslayer from the beginning, and did .not abide in the truth. Because there is no truth in him, when he speaketh falsehood he speaketh what is. natural to him, for he is a liar, and the father of it.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd exposeth his life for the sheep.

¹³ The hireling fleeth because he is a hireling and careth not for the sheep.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you. This peace of mine I give you. It is not as the world giveth that I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled nor dismayed.

²⁶ Now when the monitor whom I Will send to you from the Father, is come; the spirit of truth who proceedeth from the Father, he will testify concerning me. ²⁷ And as for you, bear ye witness also, because you have been with me from the beginning.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that you may have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble; but take courage: I have overcome the world.

¹⁹ In the evening, on that same day, the first day of the week, the doors where the disciples assembled being shut for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, "Peace be to you."

²⁶ And after eight days, his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be to you.

Peter was grieved that he said to him, the third time, "Lovest thou me," and he said to him, Lord thou knowest all things. Thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.

²¹ Peter seeing him, saith to Jesus, Lord, and this one, what in respect to him?

⁸ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.

²² beginning from the baptism of John to the day on which he was taken up from us, should be a witness with us of his resurrection.

³² This very Jesus God hath raised up, of which we all are witnesses.

¹⁵ You indeed killed him who is the conductor to life, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

³⁰ The God of our fathers hath raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, having caused him to be suspended on a cross ³¹ even him, a chief leader and a Saviour, God hath exalted at his right hand to give repentance to Israel and a remission of sins. ³² And we are his witnesses of these things, as is also the Holy Spirit which God hath granted to them who obey him.

³⁹ and we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; Him, whom they slew, suspending him on a cross ⁴⁰ even him God raised up the third day, and granted him to become manifest, ⁴¹ not to all the people, but to witnesses who were preappointed by God; to us who have eaten, and drunk with him after he arose from the dead.

²³ And when he came and saw the grace of God, he was filled with joy and exhorted them all to adhere to the Lord with a firm determination of heart.

³⁰ And. this they did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

And because we must enter into the kingdom of God through many afflictions; ²³ they therefore appointed elders for them in every congregation, and having fasted and prayed, they recommended them to the Lord in whom they believed.

⁴ And when they arrived at Jerusalem they were well received by the congregation, particularly by the apostles and elders, and they gave an account of all that God had done by them.

⁶ And the apostles and elders were convened to deliberate on this matter.

²² It was then determined by the apostles and elders, when they with the whole congregation had chosen chief men from among them, to send with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch, Judas, who is surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren, ²³ by whom they wrote the following letter. "The apostles and the elders and the brethren, to the brethren from among the Gentiles in Antioch, and Syria and Cilicia,

¹⁷ So from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called hither the elders of the congregation.

²⁴ But I make no account of any of these, nor is this life of mine so much my concern as to finish with joy my course; even the office which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the glad tidings of the favour of God.

²⁶ therefore I testify to you this day that I am clear from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not shrunk from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. ²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves and to the whole flock among which the holy spirit hath made you overseers to tend the congregation of God which he hath purchased with his own blood.

² through whom we have, by this belief, obtained access to this favour in which we stand and boast in a hope of the glory of God.

⁶ For while we were yet without strength, Christ In due time died for the ungodly:

²⁰ Now the law came in a little way, so that transgression abounded, but where sin abounded, favour superabounded, ²¹ that as sin had reigned by death, so favour might reign by means' of a justification for everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹¹ For the children being not yet born, nor having done any thing good or evil that the purpose might rest on the choice of God, not in consideration of works, but of his call,

⁵ Now may the God of this patience and of this consolation grant you to have your minds mutually bent on this very thing after the example of Christ Jesus,

¹³ Now may the God of this trust fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in this trust by virtue of a holy spirit.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my glad tidings and the proclamation of Jesus Christ; according to the disclosure of a secret which was concealed in times of old,

⁹ God is faithful by whom you have been called to a fellowship in his son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

³⁰ And it is owing to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who hath been made to us wisdom from God, namely, righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption,

⁵ Who then is Paul? And who is Apollos? Are they any thing but mere dispensers of another's bounty, by whose means you have believed? Even as the Lord hath given to each,

⁹ For we are fellow labourers belonging to God; you are God's field; you are his building.

⁷ Who goeth to war any time at his own expenses? Who planteth a vineyard and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Who feedeth a flock and doth not eat of the milk of that flock?

¹⁶ For though I publish the glad tidings I have no cause of boasting; for I am under an obligation and woe is for me if I do not publish the glad tiding ¹⁷ for if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will I have been intrusted with an office, what then is the reward for me?

²⁵ Now, every one who is to contend in the public games is temperate in all things. They indeed do this that they may obtain a corruptible crown. But we [to obtain] one that is incorruptible.

¹³ No trial hath come upon you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, and will not suffer you to be tried above your strength, but will with the trial make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

²² Are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

¹¹ Nevertheless, man is not without woman, nor woman without man in the Lord.

¹ I now, brethren, remind you in what terms I proclaimed the gospel which I proclaimed to you, and which you received, and in which you have continued,

²⁰ All the brethren salute you. Salute ye one another with a holy kiss.

¹⁹ For the Son of God, [namely] Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed among you by us namely by me, and Silvanus, and Timothy, was not yes and no; but by him hath been made yes.

⁵ For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake.

¹⁷ For this momentary and light affliction of ours is working out for us an eternal weight of glory, great beyond expression,

¹ For we know that when the earthly house of this dwelling of ours is dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, everlasting in the heavens.

⁸ and go on undaunted [as we think it better for us to be abroad from the body and at home with the Lord;]

¹⁷ So that if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things are passed away, behold! all those things are made new.

¹⁴ Behold I am in preparation to come to you a third time, and I will not be burthensome to you. For I seek not your possessions, but yourselves. For children are not bound to lay up treasures for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵ And as for me, I will, with the greatest pleasure, spend and be spent for your sakes, though the more I love you, the less I be beloved.

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfectly in order. Be comforted. Have your minds bent on one and the same thing: Be at peace: and the God of love and peace be with you.

⁸ But if we, or an angel from heaven, proclaim to you as glad tidings any thing different from what we have proclaimed to you, let him be an anathema. As we said before, ⁹ so I now say again, If any one teach you as glad tidings any thing different from what you have received, let him be anathema.

³ that he hath by a revelation made known to me this secret [as I have briefly written above,

¹⁹ For I know that this will issue in my deliverance, through your supplications and a supply of the spirit of Jesus Christ,

²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ²² But whether the living in flesh is for me a fruit of labour, and what I should chuse, I do not know. ²³ For I am strained between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ which is by far the best;

³ upon nothing out of a spirit of contention or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind esteeming one another better than yourselves,

¹⁷ be ye, brethren, imitators of me, and keep your eyes fixed on those who walk thus, as you have us for an example.

⁶ Be anxious about nothing; but on all occasions, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

⁹ and practise what you have learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me; and the God of peace be with you.

²² by the body of his flesh by his death, to present you holy and without blemish, and exempt from accusation in his sight, ²³ provided you continue in this belief, grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the hope of the glad tidings which you have heard, which have been proclaimed to this whole creation under heaven, of which I Paul was made a minister.

⁵ for though I am absent in person, yet in spirit I am present with you, rejoicing and beholding the regularity of your conduct and the stedfastness of your belief in Christ.

⁷ rooted and built up in him, and firmly established in this belief, as you have been taught; abounding in it with thankfulness.

³ For you have died, and your life is hid with the Christ in God. ⁴ When the Christ, our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

¹² exhorting you, and comforting you, and testifying that you should walk worthy of God who inviteth you to his kingdom and glory.

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as others do; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they who sleep, sleep at night; and they who get drunk are drunk at night. ⁸ But as we are of the day, let us be sober, arming ourselves with the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet with the hope of salvation.

⁷ and to you who are afflicted, rest with us at the manifestation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, ⁸ executing, with flaming fire, vengeance on them who know not God, and on them who hearken not to the glad tidings of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ These shall suffer punishment, an everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, ¹⁰ on the day when he shall come to be glorified by his saints, and to be admired by all those who believe that he was intrusted with this testimony of ours to you:

¹⁴ to which he hath called you by our glad tidings, to be an acquisition of glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in comely apparel, with bashful modesty; not with curls, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

¹⁵ but to be saved by the child birth, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification, with a sober mind.

² The overseer therefore ought to be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, discreet, well behaved, hospitable, qualified to teach, ³ not addicted to wine, no striker, not attached to sordid gain, but of a gentle disposition, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money,

⁸ Almoners in like manner should be grave, not double tongued, not addicted to much wine, not attached to sordid gain,

¹² Let none despise thy youth; but be thou a pattern to the faithful in doctrine, in behaviour, in love, in spirit, in fidelity, in purity.

¹⁹ Receive not an accusation against an elder, but on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

¹² Maintain the good combat of faith. Lay hold on the life everlasting to which thou hast been invited, and of which thou hast made a good profession before many witnesses.

⁹ who hath saved us, and called us with a holy invitation, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose, and the favour which was granted to us in Christ Jesus, before the times composed of ages,

⁵ I left thee in Crete for this purpose that thou mightest regulate what were wanting, and appoint elders in every city as I ordered thee.

⁷ For the overseer ought to be blameless as God's steward, not self willed, not passionate, not addicted to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy of sordid gain; ⁸ but a lover of hospitality, a lover of goodness, sober, just, holy, temperate,

¹¹ who ought to be curbed, who subvert whole houses teaching what they ought not, for the sake of sordid gain.

² that aged men be sober, grave, discreet, sound in their belief, their love, their patience;

⁴ teach the young women to be discreet, to love their husbands, to love their children,

¹⁴ But if you should even suffer on the account of righteousness, you are happy. Be not terrified with the fear of them, nor dismayed;
