⁷ Now this was the blessing of Juda Hear, Lord, the voice of Juda! And until thou comest to his people; Let his hands contend for them, And be thou his help from enemies.

⁸ Judas! Let thy brethren praise thee: Thy hands will be on the back of thy enemies. The sons of thy father shall bow down to thee. ⁹ Judas is a lion's whelp. From a vigorous stem, my son, thou art sprung. Couching down thou art gone to sleep like a young lion: Who dare rouse him! ¹⁰ A chief shall not fail from Judas. Nor a leader from his loins; Till the things reserved for him shall come; Even He, the expectation of nations. ¹¹ Binding his colt to a vine And his asses colt to the young vine, He will wash his robe in wine, And his mantle in the blood of the grape. ¹² His eyes are more exhilarating than wine, And his teeth are whiter than milk.

¹ Now, after the decease of Joshua, the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us as our leader against the Chananites, to conduct the war against them? ² And the Lord said, Juda shall go up. Behold I have delivered the land into his hand. ³ Whereupon Juda said to his brother Symeon, Come up with me in my lot, and let us array ourselves against the Chananites, and I will go up with thee in thy lot. So Symeon went up with him. ⁴ And Juda went up, and the Lord delivered into their hands the Chananites, and the Pherezites, and they smote them in Bezek, to the number of ten thousand men. ⁵ When they came up with Adonibezek, in Bezek, they drew up in array against him, and smote the Chananites and the Pherezites. ⁶ And Adonibezek fled, and they pursued him, and took him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. ⁷ Whereupon Adonibezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, have been under my table, gathering up the offals thereof; therefore as I have done, so hath God requited me: And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

¹ Though the war was lengthened out between the house of Saul and the house of David, yet the house of David grew stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

¹ Then all the tribes of Israel came to David to Chebron and said to him, Behold we are thy bone and thy flesh.

¹⁹ Whereupon David inquired of the Lord saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Wilt thou deliver them into my hands? And the Lord said to David, Go up; for I will assuredly deliver the Philistines into thy hands.

²⁴ And when thou nearest the sound of a rustling in the grove of Wailing, then thou shalt go down against them; for the Lord will then go out before thee, to smite in the battle of the Philistines.

⁹ and I have been with thee whithersoever thou didst go, and have destroyed all thine enemies from before thee, and made thee renowned according to the renown of the great men on the earth; ¹⁰ and I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and plant them, and they shall dwell by themselves, and shall no more be in trouble; nor shall a son of wickedness any more humble them as heretofore, ¹¹ from the days I appointed judges over my people Israel: and I will give thee rest from all thine enemies, and the Lord will tell thee that thou art to build a house for him. ¹² And it shall come to pass when thy days are fulfilled and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, that I will raise up after thee the seed of thee who shall spring from thy loins, and I will establish his kingdom.

²² For there came men daily to David to form a great army like the host of God.

¹² And Josaphat advanced in greatness to a high degree, and built castles and strong cities in Judea, ¹³ and had many works done for him in Judea. And with regard to the warriors, the mighty men, who strengthened him in Jerusalem, ¹⁴ this was the number of them according to the houses of their patriarchal families. The chiliarchs for Juda were Edna the chief, and with him sons, mighties of the army, three hundred chiliads; ¹⁵ and after him Joanan the leader and with him two hundred and eighty chiliads; ¹⁶ and after him Amasias the Zarite, who devoted himself to the Lord, and with him two hundred chiliads, mighties of the army; ¹⁷ and from Benjamin a mighty of the army, namely Eliada, and with him bow men, and those armed with shields, two hundred chiliads; ¹⁸ and after him Jozabad, and with him eighty chiliads, mighties of battle. ¹⁹ All these waited on the king, excepting them whom the king placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judea.

¹ For the conclusion. A Psalm by David. In the Lord I have placed my confidence, how say ye to my soul, "away to the mountains as an ostrich. ² For behold the sinners have bent a bow: they have provided arrows for a quiver; to shoot privily the upright in heart. ³ For what thou didst build up, they have pulled down." Now what hath the righteous done? ⁴ The Lord is in his holy temple. The Lord, whose throne is in heaven; whose eyes look down on the needy; whose eye lids examine the sons of men; ⁵ the Lord examineth both the righteous and the wicked. He then who loveth iniquity hateth his own soul. ⁶ Upon the wicked he will rain snares. Fire and brimstone and a tempestuous wind, shall be the portion of their cup. ⁷ Because the Lord is righteous, therefore he loved righteousness; his countenance beheld uprightness.

² May he send thee help from the Sanctuary: And assist thee out of Sion.

¹ For the conclusion. A Psalm by David. Lord, in thy strength, the king will rejoice; and exult greatly in thy salvation.

⁸ Let thine enemies feel thy hand: and thy right hand find out all that hate thee.

⁶⁸ but made choice of the tribe of Juda; of this mount Sion which he loved,

⁷⁰ and he chose David his servant and took him from the flocks of sheep;

¹ A Psalm. By David. The Lord said to my Lord; sit at my right hand; till I make thine enemies thy footstool. ² Out of Sion the Lord will send thee a rod of power: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

⁵ Happy he whose helper is the God of Jacob: his hope is in the Lord his God,

¹⁷ therefore the Lord will have no pleasure in their young men; and on their orphans and their widows he will have no compassion; because they are all wicked and regardless of law, and every mouth speaketh perversely. For all this his wrath is not turned away but still his hand is lifted high.

² But as for thee, Bethlehem, thou house of Ephratha, art thou too little to be one of the chiliads of Juda? Out of thee one shall come forth for me to be the chief of Israel. His goings forth have been from the beginning; from the days of an age.

¹ Behold I am about to send my messenger and he will examine the way before me. And the Lord whom ye seek; even the angel of the covenant whom you desire will come suddenly to his temple. Behold he is coming, saith the Lord Almighty.

²⁷ And as for those enemies of mine who would not have me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.

²⁵ For he must reign until he hath put all the enemies under his feet.

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord sprang from Judah, in respect to which tribe Moses spake nothing of a priesthood.

¹³ and he was clothed with a mantle dipped in blood; and his name is The Word or God. ¹⁴ And the armies in heaven clad in cotton robes white and clean followed him on white horses. ¹⁵ And out of his mouth issueth a sharp sword that with it he may smite the nations. And he himself tendeth them with an iron crook; and he himself treadeth the press of the venemous and raging wine of God Almighty. ¹⁶ And he hath on his mantle and on his thigh this name written King Of Kings And Lord Of Lords.

¹⁰ And the Devil who was seducing them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are; and they shall be tormented day and night for the ages of the ages. ¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat thereon from whose presence the earth and the heaven fled away and there was no place found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God. And books were opened; and another book was opened namely that of Life. And the dead were judged by the writings in those books according to their works. ¹³ And the sea delivered up the dead in it; and death and the mansion of the dead delivered up the dead in them; and they were judged, every one according to his works. ¹⁴ And death and the mansion of the dead were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
