¹⁷ but from this tree, that you may know good and evil, you must not eat of it. On the day you eat of it, by death you shall die."

⁹ And God caused to spring up there also out of that ground every tree beautiful to the sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree for the purpose of knowing what was to be known of good and evil.

¹ Now the two, both Adam and his wife were naked, and were not ashamed. But the serpent was the wisest of all the beasts on the earth which the Lord God had made, and the serpent said to the woman, "Why hath God said, you must not eat of every tree of the garden?" ² And the woman said to the serpent, "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; ³ but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God said, You shall not eat of it, nor touch it, that you may not die." ⁴ And the serpent said to the woman, "You will not by death die.

¹¹ And God said to him, "Who told thee that thou art naked, if so be thou hast not eaten of the tree of which alone I commanded thee not to eat of this?"

¹⁷ And to Adam he said, "Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and eaten of the tree of which alone I commanded thee not to eat, the ground is cursed by thy labours. With sorrows thou shalt eat of it all the days of thy life.

¹⁹ By the sweat of thy face thou shalt eat thy bread until thou return into the earth out of which thou wast taken; for earth thou art and to earth thou shalt return."

⁷ Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet; and he will pray for thee and thou shalt live. But if thou restore not, be assured that thou and all belonging to thee shall die.

⁶⁵ Because the Lord said to them, they shall assuredly die in the wilderness; therefore there was not one of them left, save Chaleb son of Jephonne, and Joshua son of Nave.

²⁶ Cursed be every man who will not persevere in all the words of this law, to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

¹⁵ Behold I have this day set before thee Life and Death, Good and Evil.

¹⁹ I call heaven and earth this day to witness against you, that I have set Life and Death, the Blessing and the Curse before you. Chuse thou life, that thou and thy seed may live,

³⁹ for as the Lord liveth who hath saved Israel, if the answer be given against Jonathan my son, he shall surely be put to death. But there was not one of the people who answered.

⁴⁴ Saul said to him, God do so to me, and more also, but thou shalt surely die this day.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jessai liveth, thy kingdom will not be established. Now therefore send and seize that young man, for he shall surely die.

¹⁶ Then Saul the king said, Thou shalt surely be put to death, both thou Abimelech, and all the house of thy father.

³⁷ For be assured that on the day thou goest out, and crossest the brook Kedron, thou shalt be put to death. Thy blood shall be on thy own head.

⁸ And when Jeremias had done speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to deliver to all the people; the priests and the false prophets and all the people seized him, saying,

¹⁸ When I say to the unrighteous, Thou shalt surely die, and thou hast not warned the unrighteous to turn from his ways that he may live; that unrighteous man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thy hand. ¹⁹ But if thou hast warned the unrighteous and he will not turn from his iniquity and from his way; that unrighteous man shall die for his iniquity, and thou shalt deliver thy soul. ²⁰ So when a righteous man turneth from his righteous acts and shall commit transgression though I lay the punishment before him; he shall die. Because thou hast not warned him, though he indeed shall die for his sins [for his righteous acts will not be remembered; yet his blood I will require at thy hand.

⁴ for all souls are mine. As the soul of the father so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul that sinneth it shall die.

¹³ lent on interest and taken usury. He shall not live. He bath committed all these iniquities. He shall surely die. His blood shall be upon him.

³² since I desire not the death of him who dieth? saith the Lord.

⁸ When I say to the sinner, Thou shalt die: if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way; that unrighteous man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thy hand.

¹⁴ And when I say to the wicked, Thou shalt die:

³² Some having recognised God's law, That they who do such things deserve death, not only do the same things themselves, but have even a complacency in them who commit them;

¹² on this account; as sin entered into this world by one man, and death by sin, and so death for which all sinned passed through unto all men: ¹³ for there was sin in the world until the law: now sin is not placed to account where there is no law; ¹⁴ but death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them who had not sinned after the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of him who was to come: ¹⁵ but the free gift is not as the transgression; for if for the transgression of the one, the many died; much more hath the favour of God, and the free gift by the favour of the other man, Jesus Christ, superabounded to the many: ¹⁶ nor is this free gift as in the case when one sinned" for the sentence was a condemnation for one offence, but the ¹⁷ free gift is an acquittal from many transgressions. For if for the offence of the one, death reigned by that one; much more shall they who receive the superabundance of this favour and of the free gift of this acquittal, reign in life by the other, namely Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ Therefore as by one transgression there was a sentence of condemnation for all men; so by one acquittal there is an adjudication of life for all men. ¹⁹ For as by the disobedience of the one man, the many were ranked as sinners, so also by the obedience of the other man, the many will be ranked as righteous. ²⁰ Now the law came in a little way, so that transgression abounded, but where sin abounded, favour superabounded, ²¹ that as sin had reigned by death, so favour might reign by means' of a justification for everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁶ Do you not know that to whatsoever you deliver yourselves up as servants at command, you are the slaves of that which you obey, whether it be of sin for death; or of obedience for righteousness.

²³ For die wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁰ So I found the commandment which was for life, to be for death. ¹¹ For sin having got an advantage by the commandment, seduced me, and by it slew me. ¹² So that the law is indeed holy, and the commandment is holy, just and good. ¹³ Hath that then which is good been death to me? No, by no means. But sin, so that it appeared to be sin, continued working death for me by that which is good, so that sin appeared to be sin in the highest degree by the commandment.

² For the law of the spirit of the life in Christ Jesus hath freed me from the law of sin and death;

²² For as by Adam all die, so by the Christ all shall be brought to life:

⁵⁶ Sin is indeed the sting of death; And the law is the strength of sin:

¹⁰ For as many as are of works of law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is every one who will not persevere in all that. are written in the book of the law to do them."

¹ And with respect to you, when you were dead in those trespasses, and those sins, ² in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world; according to the prince of the power of the air, that spirit which is now working powerfully in the children of disobedience; ³ among whom when we also were all formerly leading our lives in the desires of our flesh, executing the dictates of the flesh, and the imaginations, and were naturally children of wrath even as the rest; ⁴ then God, who is rich in mercy, on the account of the great love with which he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead in those trespasses, did bring us to life with the Christ, [by grace you are saved] ⁶ and did raise us up, and place us with him in the heavenly kingdom in Christ Jesus,

¹⁴ therefore it is said, "Awake thou who sleepest and arise from the dead and the Christ will shine upon thee.

¹³ When you were dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh he raised you to life with him. Having freely forgiven you all those trespasses

⁶ but she, who indulgeth herself in sensuality, is dead, though she liveth.

¹⁵ In that case desire having conceived, bringeth forth sin, and sin, when grown up, produceth death.

¹⁶ If any one see his brother committing a sin not unto death, let him ask, and he will give him life for them who do not sin unto death: there is a sin unto death, with respect to this I do not say that he should make petition.

¹¹ Let him who hath an ear hear what the spirit saith to the congregations. "He who overcometh shall not be hurt by the second death."

⁶ Happy and holy is he who hath a portion in this first resurrection. Over them the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and the Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.

¹⁴ And death and the mansion of the dead were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

⁸ but the cowards and the unbelieving and abominable and murderers and prostitutes, and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their portion in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.
