¹ For the law having a shadow of the good things to come and not the very image of those things, can by no means make them who present themselves, perfect for ever by those sacrifices which they offer year after year. ² Otherwise would they not have ceased to be offered? Since they who performed the service, being once purified, would no more have a consciousness of sins. ³ But by these there is an annual remembrance of sins. ⁴ For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when coming into the world he saith, "Sacrifices and offering? thou didst not desire, but preparedst for me a body. ⁶ In whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin thou hadst no pleasure; ⁷ then I said, Behold I come [in the volume of a book it is written of me] to perform, O God, thy will." ⁸ Having first said, "Sacrifice and offering and whole burnt offerings, and offerings for sins thou didst not desire, nor take pleasure in them," [These were offered according to the law] ⁹ He then said, "Behold I come to perform, O God, thy will" [he taketh away the first that he may establish the second]. ¹⁰ by which will we are sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once only. ¹¹ Though every priest hath indeed stood performing daily service, and frequently offering the same sacrifices, these can by no means take away sins; ¹² but he having offered for sins one sacrifice, to last for ever, sat down at the right hand of God, ¹³ thenceforth waiting till his enemies are made his footstool. ¹⁴ For by one offering he hath made perfect for ever them who are sanctified. ¹⁵ And this indeed the holy spirit testified! to us; for after saying, ¹⁶ This is the covenant which I will make with Them "After these days, saith the Lord, having adapted my laws to their understandings, I will write them on their minds, ¹⁷ and their sins and iniquities I will remember no more." ¹⁸ Now, where there is a remission of these, there is no more an offering for sin. ¹⁹ As we, therefore, brethren, have, by virtue of the blood of Jesus, free access to the holies 20 by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, his flesh; ²¹ and a great high priest over the house of God, ²² let us come with a true heart in the full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and the body washed with pure water. ²³ Let us hold fast the profession of this hope without wavering; for he who hath promised is faithful; ²⁴ and let us observe one another, in order to excite love and good works, ²⁵ not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the custom of some, but comforting one another; and so much the more as you see the day approaching. ²⁶ For if we sin wilfully, after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more any sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. ²⁸ Whoever hath set at naught the law of Moses dieth without mercy, on the evidence of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, think ye, will he be thought worthy, who hath trampled upon the Son of God, and accounted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, a common thing, and treated contemptuously the spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will requite, saith the Lord;" and, again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ³² But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, ³³ being publicly exposed to reproaches and afflictions, and at the same time sympathizing with them who were thus treated: ³⁴ For you sympathized with me in my bonds, and waited with joy the seizure of your goods, knowing that you had in yourselves a better,"even an ever-during substance in heaven. ³⁵ Therefore cast not away that confidence of yours which hath a great recompense of reward. ³⁶ For you must persevere, that when you have performed the will of God, you may receive the promised reward. ³⁷ "For yet a little while, and he who is coming will come, and will not delay; ³⁸ now the just shall live because of faith; but if he, through fear, draw back; my soul hath no pleasure in him." ³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back for perdition; but of them who believe for the attainment of life.

³¹ Thou shalt also make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread. ³² This thou shalt make a work inwoven with cherubs: and thou shalt hang it on four pillars of incorruptible wood overlaid with gold, the capitals of which are to be of gold and their four bases of silver. ³³ And having hung up the veil upon the pillars, thou shalt bring in there within the veil the ark of the testimony. And the veil shall make a division for you, between the Holy and the Holy of Holies. ³⁴ And with the veil thou shalt cover from view the ark of the testimony in the Holy of Holies. ³⁵ And thou shalt place the table without the veil, and the candlestick over against the table on the south side of the tabernacle, and the table thou shalt place on the north side of the tabernacle. ³⁶ And thou shalt make a draw curtain for the door of the tabernacle, of blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread, the work of an embroiderer; ³⁷ And for this veil thou shalt make five pillars and overlay them with gold and their capitals shall be of gold but thou shalt cast for them five bases of brass.

⁴ Then thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the doors of the tabernacle of the testimony and wash them with water.

³⁸ Now these are what thou shalt offer on the altar; two yearling lambs without blemish every day on the altar continually, ³⁹ an offering of homage without intermission;

¹⁰ But Aaron shall make an atonement on it; on the horns thereof, once a year. With the blood of the purifying sacrifice he shall purify it throughout their generations. It is a Holy of Holies to the Lord.

³⁵ And they made cotton vestures, a woven work for Aaron and his sons ³⁶ and the tiaras of cotton and the mitre of cotton and the drawers of cotton, ³⁷ and the girdles of cotton thread and of blue and purple and scarlet yarn a work of embroidery as the Lord commanded Moses. ³⁸ And they made the plate of gold, a dedication of the sanctuary, of pure gold, [[39 and wrote thereon in letters engraved like a seal, Holiness to the Lord, 40 and put it on a ribbon of blue that it might be hung upon the mitre above as the Lord commanded Moses.]]

¹ Then the Lord called up Moses and spoke to him out of the tabernacle of the testimony saying, ² Speak to the children of Israel and thou shalt say to them, When any man among you bringeth gifts to the Lord from your cattle, you shall bring them either from the flocks or the herds. ³ If his gift be a whole burnt offering from the herd, he shall bring a male without blemish to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. He shall bring it before the Lord for acceptance; ⁴ and he shall lay his hand on the head of the homage offering to be accepted for him; to make atonement for him. ⁵ And they shall kill the young bull before the Lord; and the sons of Aaron the priests shall carry the blood and pour it out round about on the altar which is at the doors of the tabernacle of the testimony; ⁶ and having flayed the whole burnt offering they shall cut it in quarters;

² Speak to the children of Israel and say, When any person sinneth unwittingly before the Lord, and doth any of those things, which by any of the commandments of the Lord he ought not to do;

¹³ And if the whole congregation of Israel be unwittingly ignorant and a commandment hath escaped the notice of the whole congregation, and they shall do an act, which by any of the commandments of the Lord ought not to be done and shall transgress:

⁶ Then Moses brought forward Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.

⁷ and sprinkle some of it seven times on him who is cleansed from the leprosy, and he shall be clean. Then he shall let the live bird go into the field.

² the Lord said to Moses, Speak to Aaron thy brother, and let him not come at all times into the sanctuary, within the veil, into the presence of the propitiatory, which is on the ark of the testimony; that he may not die. For in a cloud I will appear on the propitiatory.

⁶ And Aaron shall offer the young bull for his own sin offering, and make atonement for himself and his household. ⁷ Then he shall take the two he goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁸ And Aaron shall cast lots on the goats, one lot, "For the Lord" and one lot, "For escape." ⁹ And Aaron shall bring forward the goat, on which the lot, "For the Lord" fell; and shall offer it for a sin offering, ¹⁰ but the goat, on which the lot, "For escape," fell, he shall present alive before the Lord, to make atonement on it, so as to let it escape; and he shall send it away into the wilderness. ¹¹ Then Aaron shall bring forward the young bull for his own sin offering, to make atonement for himself and his household, and shall slay the young bull for his sin offering;

¹⁵ Then he shall kill the goat for a sin offering; that for the people, before the Lord, and he shall carry some of its blood within the veil, and do with the blood thereof as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle the blood thereof on the propitiatory, in front of the propitiatory,

²¹ and Aaron shall lay his hands on the head of the live goat, and over it make confession of all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and of all their transgressions, and all their sins, and lay them on the head of the live goat, and send him away by the hand of a man ready for the purpose, into the wilderness. ²² And the goat shall bear away upon him their iniquities to an untrodden land. And having sent away the goat into the wilderness,

²⁹ And this shall be to you an everlasting rite. In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble your souls, and do no work, whether native or the proselyte who dwelleth among you; ³⁰ for on that day he shall make atonement for you, to purify you from all your sins before the Lord, that you may be cleansed.

³⁴ And the making this atonement for the children of Israel, for all their sins, shall be to you an everlasting statute. It shall be made once a year, as the Lord commanded Moses.

²³ but he shall not approach to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he hath a blemish. And he shall not profane the sanctuary of his God, because I am the Lord who halloweth them.

²⁷ On the tenth day of the seventh month is the day of Atonement. It shall be a holy set day for you; and you shall humble your souls, and offer a whole burnt offering to the Lord. ²⁸ On this day you shall not do any kind of work: for it is the day of Atonement for you, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God.

⁷ And in this manner thou shalt perform their purification. Thou shalt sprinkle them with the water of purification, and a razor shall pass over their whole body, and they shall wash their clothes, and they will be clean.

²⁸ and the priest shall make an atonement for the person who hath been guilty through ignorance, and hath sinned inadvertently before the Lord. In making atonement for him who shall act inadvertently, ²⁹ there shall be the same law for the stranger among the children of Israel, and for the proselyte who hath joined them and sinned inadvertently, as for them. ³⁰ But if any person, whether a native or a proselyte, shall presumptuously transgress, he provoketh God; that person shall be cut off from among his people. ³¹ Because he hath despised the statute of the Lord, and hath broken his commandments, that person shall be blotted out: his sin shall be upon him.

³⁶ So all the congregation led him out of the camp, and the whole congregation stoned him with stones without the camp, as the Lord commanded Moses.

³⁵ And there went forth a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men, who were offering incense!

¹⁸ and a man who is clean shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the house, and on the vessels, and on the persons who may be in the house, and on him who hath touched a human bone, or a man who hath been slain, or one dead, or a grave. ¹⁹ The clean person shall sprinkle it on the unclean, on the third day, and on the seventh day. And on the seventh day he shall purify himself^ and shall wash his clothes, and wash himself with water, and be unclean until evening.

³ Moreover thou shalt say to them, These are the homage offerings which you shall present to the Lord; two lambs, of the first year, with 4 out blemish, every day, for a continual whole burnt offering;

²⁴ After this manner you shall make daily offerings, during the seven days, as a gift; an offering of homage, for a smell of fragrance, to the Lord: Over and above the continual whole burnt offering, thou shalt offer it with its libation.

⁶ over and above the whole burnt offerings of the new moon, with their sacrifices and their libations, and the continual whole burnt offering. And their sacrifices, and their libations, shall be according to what is prescribed for them, for a smell of fragrance to the Lord. ⁷ And the tenth of this month shall be a solemn day set apart for you, on which you shall afflict your souls, and do no kind of work. ⁸ But you shall offer, as whole burnt offerings for a smell of fragrance for the Lord; as offerings of homage to the Lord, one young bull from the herd, one ram, seven lambs of the first year [you shall see that they be without blemish] ⁹ with their sacrifice; fine flour mixed up with oil; three tenths for the bull, and two tenths for the ram, ¹⁰ and a tenth for every one of the seven lambs; ¹¹ and a kid of the goats, for a sin offering, to make atonement for you, over and above the sin offering of the atonement, and the continual whole burnt offering. And the sacrifice of this, and the libation of this, shall be according to what is prescribed, for a smell of fragrance; an offering of homage to the Lord.

⁶ And if thy brother, the son of thy father, or of thy mother, or thine own son, or daughter, or the wife in thy bosom, or a friend who is as thine own soul, speak privately to thee saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; ⁷ any of the gods of the nations around you, of those near thee, or those far distant from thee, from one end of the earth to the other; ⁸ thou shalt not consent, nor hearken to him; neither shall thine eye pity him, nor shalt thou spare him, nor conceal him. ⁹ Thou shalt surely inform against him, and thy hands shall be upon him, among the foremost, to kill him, and afterwards the hands of the whole people. ¹⁰ And they shall stone him with stones, and he shall be put to death, because he sought to make thee apostatise from the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt; out of the house of bondage.

² If there be found in any of thy cities which the Lord thy God giveth thee, a man, or a woman, who shall do evil in the sight of the Lord thy God, to transgress his covenant, ³ and they have gone, and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or the moon, or any of the whole host of heaven, which he hath not commanded thee, ⁴ and information be given thee, and thou hast made strict inquiry, and behold the thing hath been actually done, and such an abomination hath been committed in Israel, ⁵ thou shalt bring out that man, or that woman, and you shall stone them with stones, till they die. ⁶ On the testimony of two or three witnesses the guilty person shall be put to death; but shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness. ⁷ And the hand of the witness shall be upon him, among the first, to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of the people. So thou shalt remove the wickedness from among you. ⁸ And if any cause which requireth judicial decision; an action of murder, an action of appeal, a case of leprosy, an action of plaint and denial; any causes which require decision in any of your cities, be too difficult for thee, thou shalt arise, and go up to the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen, ⁹ and there come to the priests, the Levites, or to the judge, who 10 ever he may be in those days, and they shall inquire, and declare to thee the sentence of judgment, ¹⁰ and thou shalt act according to what they declare to thee from the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen: and thou shalt be careful to do according to what is expounded to thee for law. ¹¹ According to the law, and according to the sentence of judgment, which they tell thee, thou shalt do. Thou shalt not deviate from what ¹² they tell thee, either to the right, or to the left. And if any man act presumptuously, so as not to hearken to the priest who hath stood to minister to the name of the Lord thy God; or to the judge who may be in those days; that man shall be put to death. ¹⁴⁵ KOPH. I have cried with my whole heart, O Lord, hear me; I

¹⁴ for the Lord will judge his people, and take comfort in his servants.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God. Let thy good spirit lead me in the right way.

¹¹ The Lord delighteth in them who fear him, and in all them who trust in his mercy.

⁴ for the Lord taketh pleasure in his people; and with salvation he will exalt the meek.

³² For, because they wronged infants they shall be slain: and a rigorous inquest shall destroy the wicked.

³¹ and I was daily gladdened by his presence on all occasions; when he finished the World and was pleased therewith; and when he was pleased with the sons of men.

¹⁴ A bold hearted man will be satisfied with his own ways; but a good man, with his intentions.

²⁶ My son, give me thy heart; and let thine eyes observe my ways.

⁷ A righteous man is skilled in administering justice to the poor: but the wicked doth not take due cognisance: nor hath he a feeling heart for the poor.

¹¹ "What is the multitude of your sacrifices to me?" saith the Lord: I am cloyed with whole burnt offerings of rams: in the fat of lambs and the blood of bulls and goats I have no delight;

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and he shall be called Emmanuel.

¹⁹ But thou shalt be cast out on the mountains, like an abominable corse, with dying crouds, pierced with the sword, descending down to the mansion of the dead.

¹¹ Thy hand, Lord, was lifted high; but they did not know it; but when they know they will be ashamed. Zeal will seize an uninstructed people; even now a fire devoureth the adversaries.

²⁰ Go my people, enter into thy chambers; shut thy door: hide thyself for a little while; until the anger of the Lord is passed.

¹¹ And after a time there will be no verdure in it, by reason of its being parched up. [p] ye women who are coming from a goddess attend! For this is not a people, who have understanding; therefore he[c] the city. [v] the vineyard. who made them will not have pity on them; nor will he who formed them shew them any favour.

³ and with the feet shall be trampled down the crown of your pride, mercenaries of Ephraim.

¹³ The Lord hath indeed said, [J] "This people draw near to me with their mouth; and with their lips they honour me; but their heart is far from me: and in vain do they worship me, teaching the commands and doctrines of men:

¹⁴ The transgressors in Sion are fled; terror will seize the ungodly. Who will tell you that a fire is kindled? who will proclaim to you the place which is everlasting?

¹ [J] JACOB is my servant, I will uphold him, Israel is my chosen one, my soul hath embraced him; I have put my spirit upon him; he will publish judgment to the nations. [[J] Jehovah, [p] the prophet]

²⁵ I even I, THE I AM, am he who blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake; and of thy sins I will no more make mention:

²² For, lo! I have made thy transgressions vanish like a cloud; and thy sins like the murky vapour. Return to me and I will redeem thee.

⁷ Hearken to me, ye who know judgment; ye people, in whose heart is my law. Fear not the reproach of men, nor be overcome by their contempt.

¹⁵ so many nations will express admiration at him; and kings will shut their mouths, because they, to whom no publication was made concerning him, shall see; and they, who had not heard, will understand.

¹⁷ And he put on righteousness as a breast plate, and placed on his head the helmet of salvation, and threw around him the mantle of vengeance; and his cloak,

²² The fewest in number shall become thousands, and he who is smallest, a great nation. I the Lord in due time will gather them.

² to proclaim an acceptable year of the Lord and a day of retribution. To comfort all who are mourning;

⁴ For the day of retribution came upon them and the year of redemption is at hand.

¹⁰ But they rebelled and provoked his holy spirit; so he became their enemy. He fought against them;

³ As for the wicked man, who sacrificeth to me a young bull: he is one who slayeth a dog: and though he offereth me fine flour: it will be as the blood of swine. Though he offereth incense for a memorial, he is as a blasphemer. As they have chosen their own ways: and their soul hath delighted in their abominations:

⁵ "Before I formed thee in the womb, I knew thee, and before thou wast born I hallowed thee. I have appointed thee a prophet for nations."

¹⁰ and for all this the treacherous Juda turned not to me with her whole heart but only feignedly.

⁴ be circumcised for your God and circumcise the stubbornness of your hearts, O men of Juda and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath break out like a fire and burn; and there be none to quench it, because of the wickedness of your devices.

²⁰ Why do you bring me incense from Saba, and cinnamon from a far distant country? Your whole burnt offerings are not acceptable; nor were your incense offerings sweet to me.

²¹ Thus saith the Lord, Collect your whole burnt offerings with your sacrifices and eat flesh. ²² Because I did not speak to your fathers nor give them a charge, on the day when I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, concerning the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices;

¹⁴ And I will scatter them, their heads of families and their brethren, both fathers and their sons at the same time. I will not have compassion, saith the Lord, nor will I spare, nor pity them for their destruction.

⁷ and I will plant them and not root them up: and I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they will turn to me with their whole heart.

²¹ His own mighties shall preside over them; and from him his own chief shall come forth; and he will gather them that they may return to me" that he who hath given his heart, whoever he is, may return to me, saith the Lord.

²² How long shall it be, ere thou wilt return, despised daughter! Since the Lord hath created safety for a new plantation, with safety men may walk about.

³³ For this, saith the Lord, is my covenant which I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the Lord, I will adapt my laws to their understanding and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be my people. ³⁴ And they shall no more teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord; for all will know me from the greatest to the least of them: for I will be merciful to their iniquities and no more remember their sins.

²⁰ So when a righteous man turneth from his righteous acts and shall commit transgression though I lay the punishment before him; he shall die. Because thou hast not warned him, though he indeed shall die for his sins [for his righteous acts will not be remembered; yet his blood I will require at thy hand.

⁶ I passed by thee and saw thee polluted with thy blood and said to thee, From thy blood there is life.

⁹ And when thou becamest mine I washed thee with water, and cleansed away thy blood from thee and anointed thee with oil;

²⁴ But when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity according to all the iniquities which the wicked hath done, none of the righteous acts which he hath done shall be remembered. For the sins which he hath committed, even for these he shall die.

³⁰ I will judge you, saith the Lord, house of Israel, every one according to his way. Be converted and turn from all your acts of wickedness, and they shall not bring upon you the punishment of iniquity.

¹⁷ And as for you sheep, thus saith the Lord, Lord, Behold I will judge between sheep and sheep; rams and he goats.

⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord, Lord, In the fire of my wrath I have spoken against these remnants of nations and against all Idumea: Because they have with joy distributed this land of mine among themselves for a possession, undervaluing lives that you might be a waste for prey;

²⁵ then I will sprinkle upon you pure water, and you shall be cleansed from all your impurities and from all your idols; and when I have cleansed you,

¹⁹ In the fire of mine indignation, I have spoken, there shall indeed be on that day a great shock in the land of Israel.

⁴ part shall be for the priests who minister in the sanctuary. There shall be both for them who draw near to minister to the Lord, and there shall be for the others, a place for houses set apart in their holy portions.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and this kingdom of his shall not be left to another people. It shall break in pieces, and blow away all those kingdoms and shall itself stand forever.

⁶ Whereupon the king's countenance changed and his thoughts troubled him and the joints of his loins were loosened and his knees smote one against another.

²² Now thou, Baltasar, his son, hast not therefore humbled thy heart before this God. Hast thou not known all these things? ²³ Yet thou hast exalted thyself against the Lord God of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought before thee, and thou and thy nobles and thy concubines and thy wives have drunk wine out of them, and thou hast praised the gods of gold and silver and brass and iron and wood and stone which neither see nor hear, nor understand: but the God in whose hand is thy breath and all thy ways; him thou hast not glorified.

¹¹ And until the captain general should deliver the captivity, even by reason of him the sacrifice was disturbed; and he was prospered; and the sanctuary is to be desolated;

²¹ even whilst I was uttering this prayer, behold a man, Gabriel, whom I saw in the former vision, came flying and touched me about the hour of the evening sacrifice

²⁷ Now one week shall confirm a covenant for many and in the half of that week my sacrifice and libation shall be taken away. And upon the temple shall be an abomination of the desolations, and at the end of a time, an end shall be put to that desolation.

³¹ And seeds out of him will spring up, and the sanctuary of the dominion will be polluted; and the daily sacrifice will be removed; and there will be set up an abomination which hath caused desolation,

¹¹ Now from the time of the change of the daily sacrifice, when the abomination of desolation shall be set up there will be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

⁶ for I desire mercy rather than sacrifice, and an acknowledgment of God rather than whole burnt offerings.

⁸ The altars of On, the stumbling blocks of Israel shall indeed be taken away; thorns and thistles shall grow on their altars, and they will say to the hills, cover us, and to the mounts, Fall upon us.

² take words with you and return to the Lord your God, and, that you may not receive the punishment of iniquity but may receive good things, say to him, "We will render to thee the fruit of our lips.

³⁰ And I will exhibit wonders in heaven and on the earth, blood and fire and smoky vapour.

²¹ [J] I have hated, I have rejected your festivals, and I will not smell your sacrifices at your solemn assemblies. ²² Therefore though you offer me whole burnt offerings, I will not accept your sacrifices nor regard your sumptuous peace offerings.

⁶ [Balak.] "By what mean shall I gain over the Lord? Shall I take him for my God most high? Shall I gain him over by whole burnt offerings; by calves of a year old? ⁷ Will the Lord accept me for thousands of rams or myriads of fat goats? Must I give my first born for iniquity; the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul." ⁸ [Balaam.] "Must thou, man, be told what is good? What doth the Lord require from thee, but to do justice and to love mercy, and to be prepared to walk with the Lord thy God?"

¹⁰ and shame shall cover her who saith, "Where is thy God?" Mine eyes shall see her. She shall now be trodden down like dirt in the streets.

¹⁹ he will turn and have compassion on us: he will bury deep our iniquities: they shall be whelmed in the depths of the sea.

² God is zealous. The Lord is about to take vengeance: the Lord is about to take vengeance with wrath: the Lord is about to take vengeance on his adversaries, and to destroy utterly his enemies, himself.

⁵ At him the mountains quake and the hills tremble; at his presence the earth is startled; the World and all its inhabitants. ⁶ At the presence of his wrath who can stand, or who can resist his fierce indignation? His wrath dissolveth governments, and by him the rocks are rent to pieces.

⁸ When with a deluging march he maketh destruction; them who raise themselves up and are his enemies, darkness shall pursue. ⁹ What are you devising against the Lord? He will make complete destruction, and not punish twice by distress for the same thing. ¹⁰ Because one shall be utterly destroyed, and consumed like bindweed and dry stubble;

⁶ and cast abomination on thee according to thine impurities; and make thee a publick example,

³ for the vision is for a time yet to come. But it will spring up at last and will not be vain. Though he may tarry, wait for him; for he will assuredly come and will not fail. ⁴ If any one draw back my soul hath no pleasure in him. But the just shall live by faith in me.

¹⁰ And when I pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and compassion, then will they look to him whom they pierced, and they will mourn for him with a mourning as for a beloved; and be afflicted with sorrow as for a first born.

²⁰ but while he was thinking of this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said to him, "Joseph, son of David, fear not to take home Mary thy wife; for her pregnancy is from the Holy Spirit" ²¹ and she will bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. ²² All this was done, so that there was a fulfilment of what was spoken by the prophet, saying, ²³ "The virgin shall conceive and bear a son and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel," the meaning of which is, God with us:

¹⁰ Now the axe is at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which doth not produce good fruit is to be cut down and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water for a reformation; but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in a holy spirit and fire. ¹² His winnowing instrument is in his hand. He will thoroughly clean his floor, and gather his wheat for the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

⁴³ When the unclean spirit hath gone out of the man, it walketh through dry places seeking rest, but doth not find it. ⁴⁴ Then it saith I will return to my habitation from which I came out. And when it is come, it findeth it unoccupied, swept and furnished. ⁴⁵ Then it goeth and bringeth with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and dwell there. So the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus also will it be with this wicked generation.

It is better for thee to enter maimed into life, than having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire which is unextinguishable; ⁴⁴ "Where their worm dieth not; and the fire is not extinguished! ⁴⁵ And if thy foot cause thee to fall, cut it off, it b better for thee to enter lame into life, than, having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire which is unextinguishable; ⁴⁶ where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁷ And if thine eye causeth thee to fall, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter one eyed into the kingdom of God, than having two eyes, to be cast into the hell of that fire; ⁴⁸ where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁹ For every one is to be salted for fire, as every sacrifice is to be salted with salt.

²³ For verily I say to you, If one should say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and cast into the sea; and have no doubt in his mind, but believe that what he saith cometh to pass; whatever he may command shall be done for him. ²⁴ Therefore I say to you, What things soever you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive, and you shall have them.

³³ and to love him with the whole heart, and with the whole understanding, and with the whole soul, and with the whole strength; and to love one's neighbour as himself, is more than all the burnt offerings and the sacrifices.

³⁶ For David himself, by the Holy Spirit, said, "The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

²⁹ So when you see these things happen, know that he is near, at the door. ³⁰ Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass away until all these things are accomplished.

³³ sell your possessions and give alms: provide for yourselves purses which do not wear out; a treasure in the heavens, which will never fail; where no thief approacheth, nor moth spoileth:

⁴⁷ Now that servant who knew his master's will, and did not keep himself ready, nor act agreeably to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes;

¹⁴ and thou shall be happy. For as they are not of ability to requite thee, a requital will be made to thee at the resurrection of the righteous.

²⁴ Whereupon he cried and said, Father, Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

⁸ He will, I assure you, vindicate their cause speedily. But will the son of man, when he cometh, find this belief in this land"?

²⁷ And as for those enemies of mine who would not have me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say to thee, unless a man be born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of him who sent me, that every one who seeth the son, and believeth in him, may have an everlasting life, and that I raise him up at the last day.

⁵¹ I am that living bread which came down from heaven. If any one eat of this bread he shall live forever. Now the bread which I will give is this flesh of mine, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² Upon this the Jews debated among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Therefore Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you. ⁵⁴ He who eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, hath an everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For this flesh of mine is food indeed; and this blood of mine is indeed drink. ⁵⁶ He who eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me and I in him.

¹⁷ If any man is disposed to do his will, he will know in respect to this doctrine, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself.

⁹ But they who heard, being convicted by their own conscience, went out, one by one, the eldest first, even to the last, and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁷ Now it is written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would not have had sin; but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

⁷ therefore Jesus said to them again, Verily, verily I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

⁹ I am the door. If any enter in by me, it shall be safe, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

³⁶ do you say of me, whom the father hath consecrated and sent into the world, "Thou blasphemest," because I said, I am the son of God?

⁸ Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee thou hast no portion with me. ⁹ Simon Peter saith to him; Master, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head. ¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He who hath bathed needeth only to wash the feet, the rest of the body being clean. Now you are clean, but not all,

¹⁷ If you know these things, happy are you if you practise them.

⁶ Jesus saith to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one cometh to the father but by me.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hateth me, hateth my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other did, they would not have had sin: but now, though they have seen, they have hated both me and my Father.

²⁶ Now when the monitor whom I Will send to you from the Father, is come; the spirit of truth who proceedeth from the Father, he will testify concerning me.

¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name. Them whom thou gavest to me I have guarded, and none of them is lost, unless it be the son of perdition, so that the scripture is fulfilled;

¹⁹ And for them I consecrate myself, that they may be consecrated for truth.

³⁴ But one of the soldiers with his spear pierced his side, and blood and water issued forth immediately.

¹⁹ In the evening, on that same day, the first day of the week, the doors where the disciples assembled being shut for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, "Peace be to you." ²⁰ And having said this, he shewed them his hands and his side, and the disciples were rejoiced at seeing the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be to you. As the Father sent me so I send you. ²² And having said this he breathed on them, and saith to them, Receive a holy spirit. ²³ Whose sins soever you forgive, they are forgiven them, and whose sins soever you retain, they are retained. ²⁴ Now Thomas, one of the twelve, he who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails; and put my finger into the print of the nails; and put this hand of mine into his side, I will not believe. ²⁶ And after eight days, his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be to you. ²⁷ Then he saith to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger and behold my hands! and reach thy hand and put it in to my side; and be not an unbeliever, but a believer. ²⁸ And Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus saith to him, Thomas, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed? Happy they who have not seen me and yet believe.

³¹ But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, you may have life by his name.

¹³ And when they came in, they went up into the upper room, where Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James, son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James, usually made their abode. ¹⁴ These all continued with one mind in prayer and supplication, with the women, particularly Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹ Now when the day of pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in the same place.

³³ Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he hath poured out this which you now see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens; yet he saith, "The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

⁴² and continued stedfast in the doctrine of the apostles and in the community, and in the breaking of the loaf, and in prayers,

⁴¹ Thereupon they went from the presence of the Sanhedrim, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

⁵¹ O stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears Ye do always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do ye.

¹ Now Saul continued to express satisfaction at his death: and there was at that time a great persecution against the congregation which was at Jerusalem; and all, except the apostles, were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. ² While devout men were carrying Stephen to the grave and making great lamentation for him, ³ Saul was making havock of the congregation. Entering into houses and dragging out men and women, he committed them to prison.

²¹ thou hast no portion nor share in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

¹ As for Saul he was still breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord. Having gone to the chief priest, ² he asked letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, that if he should find any of this way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

²⁹ Whereupon the disciples determined, every one according to his ability to send relief to the brethren who dwelt in Judea.

²² Then having removed him, he raised up for them David to be king, to whom he gave this testimony, "I have found David the son of Jesse, a man according to my heart, who will execute all my orders."

³⁶ For David indeed, having in his generation answered the purpose of God, went to rest and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption;

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as we were going to the oratory, we were met by a certain female slave who had a spirit of Python, and who brought her masters much gain by divining.

³⁰ and having brought them out, said, O sirs, What must I do to be saved? ³¹ And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy household.

⁷ And on the first day of the week when the disciples assembled to break bread, Paul, being about to depart on the morrow, discoursed with them, and lengthened out the discourse till midnight.

³² And now with regard to these things I recommend you, brethren, to God and to the word of his grace, who is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified.

³³ Then the commander drew near and arrested him, and ordered him to be bound with two chains, and demanded who he was and what he had done.

¹³ in the middle of the day, on the road, I saw, O king, a light from heaven, exceeding the brightness of the sun, flashing around me and them who were accompanying me.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive a remission of sins and an inheritance among them who are sanctified by the belief in me.

²⁰ For this cause, therefore, I have sent for you that I might see you and speak with you. For on account of the hope of Israel, I am bound with this chain.

²⁵ And being at variance among themselves they broke up, upon Paul's saying one word, that the holy spirit had spoken well to our fathers by the prophet Esaias,

¹⁷ For by it there is revealed a justification of God's appointment because of belief, that we may believe. As it is written, "But the just shall live because of belief:

⁷ to them who by perseverance in well-doing, seek for glory and honour, and incorruption [he will grant] everlasting life;

² through whom we have, by this belief, obtained access to this favour in which we stand and boast in a hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only so, but we boast also in our tribulations, as we know that tribulation operateth to produce patience; ⁴ and patience, a proof; and proof, a hope;

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received a spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.

³⁴ who is he who shall condemn? Christ who died? Rather indeed who is raised up, who is actually at the right hand of God, and who maketh intercession for us?

¹⁵ For to Moses he saith, "I will have mercy on whomsoever I please to have mercy'? and I will have compassion on whomsoever I please to compassionate.

⁹ That if thou wilt acknowledge with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe with thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart man believeth for righteousness, and with the mouth acknowledgment is made for salvation.

⁴ What doth the divine oracle say to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to Baal."

²⁷ And this shall be my covenant with them When I take away their sins.

² and be not conformed to this world; but transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may know experimentally what the will of God is, which is good and acceptable and perfect.

⁸ and the exhorter in exhortation; let him who giveth [do it] with sincerity; him who superintendeth, with assiduity; him who sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

¹⁵ Set your hearts on this with respect to each other"to rejoice with them who rejoice, and to weep with them who weep.

¹⁹ Beloved, avenge not yourselves, but give place to the wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will requite, saith the Lord."

⁴ For it is a minister of God for good to thee. But if thou dost evil, be in dread; for it wieldeth not the sword in vain. For it is a minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath on him who doth evil.

¹¹ Furthermore, as we know the season, that it is now high time for us to rouse from sleep, for our deliverance is nearer now than when we first believed: ¹² The night is far spent; the day is drawing on; let us therefore put off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light; ¹³ and let us walk as in day light, in a becoming manner; not in revels and drunken debauches; not in dalliance and wantonness; not in strife and envy;

¹ We then who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbour as far as is good for edification.

⁴ For whatever was written heretofore, was written for our instruction, that we by patience and the consolation of the scripture may have hope. ⁵ Now may the God of this patience and of this consolation grant you to have your minds mutually bent on this very thing after the example of Christ Jesus,

¹⁶ that I should be a ministering servant of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, and employed in the holy service of dispensing the glad tidings of God, that the offering of the Gentiles may be accepted, being hallowed by a holy spirit.

²⁰ And the God of peace will soon bruise satan under your feet. The favour of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

² to the congregation of God which is at Corinth; to them who are hallowed by Christ Jesus; called to be holy, together with all those in every place who invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:

⁹ God is faithful by whom you have been called to a fellowship in his son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

³⁰ And it is owing to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who hath been made to us wisdom from God, namely, righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption,

⁹ For we are fellow labourers belonging to God; you are God's field; you are his building. ¹⁰ According to the favour of God granted to me, I, like a skilful architect, have laid a foundation, and another buildeth upon it. But let every one take heed how he buildeth thereon. ¹¹ For no one can lay any other foundation than that which is laid, which is Jesus The Christ. ¹² Now if upon this foundation any one buildeth gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; ¹³ the work of every one will be made manifest; for the day will shew it: Because it is revealed with fire, therefore the fire will prove every one's work of what sort it is.

⁹ For it seems as if God had exhibited us, the apostles, last on the stage as devoted to death since we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.

⁴ in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you and my spirit are assembled with the power of the Lord Jesus Christ,

¹¹ Now such some of you were; but, you have washed yourselves; but you are hallowed, but you are acquitted by the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God.

¹² When you sin thus against the brethren and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Wherefore if meat cause my brother to stumble, I will never eat flesh that I may not cause my brother to stumble.

²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; to all those I have become all this that I may save all.

¹³ No trial hath come upon you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, and will not suffer you to be tried above your strength, but will with the trial make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

³³ even as I do. In all things I please all men, not studying barely my own interest, but that of the many, that they may be saved.

¹⁷ But in regard to this which I am about to mention I do not commend you, because you meet together not for the better but for the worse. ¹⁸ For in the first place, on your assembling together in the congregation, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it:

²⁰ When you therefore assemble together, it is not to eat the Lord's supper;

²⁷ So that whosoever shall eat this loaf or drink this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, he will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

²⁹ for he who eateth and drinketh in an unworthy manner, eateth and drinketh a judgment for himself, not distinguishing the body of the Lord.

⁷ It beareth all things. It believeth all things. It hopeth all things. It endureth all things patiently.

³ But he who prophesieth, speaketh to men edification, and exhortation, and consolation.

²³ If therefore the whole congregation assemble and all speak with unknown tongues, and there should come in any uninstructed persons or unbelievers, would they not say that you are raving?

¹ For we know that when the earthly house of this dwelling of ours is dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, everlasting in the heavens.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of the Christ, that every one may receive according to what he hath done in this bodily state, whether good or evil.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God hath said, "Because I will dwell among them and walk about among them, and will be their God, and they shall be my people; ¹⁷ therefore come out from among them and separate yourselves, saith the Lord, and touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you,

¹ Having therefore, beloved, these promises, let us purify ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

⁸ I do not say this by way of command, but am, during the exertion of others, proving the genuineness of your love.

² For I know the forwardness of your minds, and boast of it on your behalf to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago. And this zeal of yours hath been a spur to the multitude.

¹⁰ I feel therefore a complacency in weaknesses, in reproaches, in difficulties, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ; for when I am weak, then am I strong.

³ Are you so unwise? Having begun with spirit are you now perfecting your selves with flesh? ⁴ Have you suffered so many things in vain? But if indeed in vain;

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision availeth any thing, but a belief made operative by love.

¹³ for you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only let not that liberty be an advantage to the flesh; but be servants to one another by offices of love.

²² But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹ Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, do you, who are spiritual, set such a one right again, with a spirit of meekness, keeping an eye on thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

¹ For this cause, with regard to me Paul the prisoner of the Christ, Jesus, for you the nations;

¹ I, therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the call with which you have been called,

³⁰ And grieve not the holy spirit of God by which you have been sealed for the day of redemption.

⁷ as it is just for me to be thus affected towards you all, because you have me in your heart; and in my bonds and in the defence and support of the glad tidings you all continue to be fellow sharers with me of this favour.

⁹ and this I pray that your love may abound still more and more, in knowledge and all discernment, ¹⁰ that you may prove the things which differ"that you may be sincere and inoffensive till the day of Christ, ¹¹ filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by means of Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.

²⁹ because this hath been granted to you for Christ, not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him and you are engaged in the same conflict as that in which you saw me and now hear that I am engaged,

¹⁶ [over and above the advance which we have made by walking by this rule,"by minding this itself]

⁵ Let your meekness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand:

¹⁴ Notwithstanding this you did well in assisting me in my distress.

¹⁸ Now I have all things and abound. I am fully supplied, having received your presents by Epaphroditus, a fragrant odour, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.

⁵ on account of the hope laid up for you in the heavens, of which you heard before by the true word of the gospel,

¹¹ being strengthened with all might according to the power of his glory for all patience and long suffering we with joy

¹ For I wish you to know what a great struggle I have for you, and for them in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen me in person,

¹⁷ which are a shadow of the things to come. And with respect to the body of the Christ,

¹ Since you then have been raised up with the Christ, seek the things which are above; where the Christ is seated at the right hand of God. ² Set your affections on the things above and not on the things of this earth. ³ For you have died, and your life is hid with the Christ in God. ⁴ When the Christ, our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell richly in you with all wisdom, when you teach and admonish one another; when with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs you sing gratefully to the Lord with your heart.

²⁴ knowing that you will receive from the Lord the reward of the inheritance; for you are serving the Lord Christ,

¹² Epaphras who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always in his prayers making the most fervent supplications for you, that you may stand perfect and confirmed in all the will of God.

³ remembering incessantly the work of your belief, and the labour of your love, and the perseverance of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of our God and Father;

¹⁴ For you, brethren, became imitators of the congregations of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. Because you suffered from your countrymen the same treatment as they did from the Jews ¹⁵ [from those indeed who slew the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and persecuted us, and who please not God, and are in opposition to all men,

¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

⁹ Because God hath not stationed us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹¹ therefore comfort one another, and edify one another, as indeed you do.

²⁴ He who calleth you is faithful, and will do this.

⁷ and to you who are afflicted, rest with us at the manifestation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, ⁸ executing, with flaming fire, vengeance on them who know not God, and on them who hearken not to the glad tidings of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ Let no one by any means deceive you that it is, until the apostacy hath first come, and the man of sin hath been revealed: that son of perdition

¹⁰ and with all the deceit of this unrighteousness among them who perish. Because they did not embrace the love of the truth that they might be saved;

¹² that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth, but have taken pleasure in unrighteousness. ¹³ Now we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God hath, from the beginning, chosen you for salvation by a sanctification of spirit and a belief of the truth ¹⁴ to which he hath called you by our glad tidings, to be an acquisition of glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ But the Lord is faithful, and will establish you, and guard you from the wicked one:

⁹ not because we are destitute of authority, but that we might exhibit ourselves as a pattern for you to imitate.

¹³ who was before a reviler, and a persecutor, and an outrageous offender: but I obtained mercy because I acted ignorantly, in unbelief.

¹⁵ but if I be delayed, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to conduct thyself in the house of God, that is in the congregation of the living God. The pillar and firm support of the truth is ¹⁶ [and unquestionably great is the mystery of this religion,] God hath been manifested in flesh, justified by spirit, hath appeared to messengers, been proclaimed among nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

² through the hypocrisy of liars, who have their own conscience seared,

⁹ But they who determine to be rich, fall headlong into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful desires, which plunge men into ruin and destruction.

⁷ For God hath not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and love, and a sound mind. ⁸ Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me who am a prisoner on his account; but share with me in affliction for the glad tidings, according to the power of God,

³ Do thou therefore endure hardships as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ⁴ No one going to war entangleth himself with worldly affairs, that he may please him who hath inlisted him. ⁵ And if a man combateth in the public games, he is not crowned, unless he combat according' to the rules prescribed. ⁶ The husbandman must labour before he partaketh of the fruits. 7 Consider what I say, and may the

⁸ Lord grant thee understanding in all things. Remember Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, raised from the dead according to these glad tidings of mine ⁹ for which I suffer even to bonds, as a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound.

¹² They are hidden rocks in your love feasts. When they feast with you, they feed themselves without restraint. They are clouds without water, impelled by winds; autumnal trees without fruit, twice dead, and to be rooted up; ¹³ raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom is reserved the gloom of everlasting darkness.

¹⁹ These are they who separate themselves, being sensual, and not having the spirit.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, the first born from the dead, and the sovereign of the kings of the earth. To him who hath loved us, and washed us from our sins with his blood,

⁵ Remember therefore from what thou hast fallen, and reform, and do thy first works; else I will come to thee quickly, and remove thy candlestick out of its place, unless thou reform.

⁷ Whosoever hath an ear to hear let him hear what the spirit saith to the congregations. To him who overcometh I will give to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of God."

¹¹ Let him who hath an ear hear what the spirit saith to the congregations. "He who overcometh shall not be hurt by the second death."

¹⁷ Let him who hath an ear hear what the spirit saith to the congregations. To him who overcometh I will grant to eat of the manna which was laid up; and I will give him a white stone, and on that stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he who receiveth it.

²⁹ Let him who hath an ear, hear what the spirit saith to the congregations.

³ Remember therefore how thou hast received, and heard, and keep fast hold, and reform. For if thou wilt not watch, I will come against thee, as a thief, so that thou shall not know at what hour I shall come against thee.

⁶ Let him who hath an ear hem what the spirit saith to the congregations."

¹¹ Behold I am coming quickly. Hold fast what thou hast, that none may take thy crown.

²² Let him who hath an ear hear what the spirit saith to the congregations."

¹⁵ and the kings of the earth and the nobles and the rich and the chief commanders and the under officers and every bondman and every freeman hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, ¹⁶ saying to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall upon us, and hide us from the face of him who is sitting on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, ¹⁷ for the great day of His wrath is come and who is able to stand?"

¹⁰ If any one gathereth [prisoners] for captivity; into captivity he goeth; if any one shall kill with the sword; with the sword he ought to be slain. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

¹² Here is the patience of the saints! here they who keep the commandments of God and the belief of Jesus.

⁸ The beast which thou sawest was and is not and is soon to ascend out of the bottomless gulf and go to destruction; and the inhabitants of the earth, whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will wonder when they see the beast, because it was and is not although indeed it is.

¹¹ and the beast, which was and is not, is itself the eighth and is of the seven and goeth to destruction;

¹⁰ Whereupon I fell down at his feet to worship him. And he saith to me, See thou do not. I am the fellow servant of thee and of thy brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the spirit of this prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.

¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

²⁰ He who testifieth these things saith, I am indeed coming quickly. Amen, even so come, Lord Jesus.
