¹ [M] THE SPIRIT of the Lord is upon me, for the business for which he anointed me. He hath sent me to publish glad tidings to the poor, to heal them who are brokenhearted; to proclaim a deliverance to captives, and a recovery of sight to the blind: ² to proclaim an acceptable year of the Lord and a day of retribution. To comfort all who are mourning; ³ that to the mourners in Sion may be given, glory instead of ashes, oil of joy to the mourners, robes of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called generations of righteousness, a plant of the Lord for glory. ⁴ And the wastes of old times shall be rebuilded; and former desolations shall be repaired, and wasted cities renewed which had lain in ruins for ages. ⁵ And strangers shall come and feed thy flocks and6 foreigners shall be thy ploughmen and vine dressers. ⁶ But you shall be called priests of the Lord, ministers of God. You shall eat the wealth of nations and for their riches be admired. ⁷ Thus shall they again inherit the land; and everlasting joy shall be on their head. ⁸ For I am the Lord who love righteousness and hate the spoils of injustice; and I will give the righteous the fruit of their toil and make an everlasting covenant with them ⁹ and their seed shall be distinguished among the nations? and their offspring in the midst of peoples. Every one who seeth them will know them, that they are a seed whom God hath blessed. ¹⁰ And they shall rejoice in the Lord with joy.[c] Rejoice in the Lord, my soul, for he hath clothed me with the mantle of Salvation, and with an under garment of gladness, he hath crowned me as a bridegroom with a crown and adorned me as a bride, with jewels, ¹¹ and like the earth blooming with flowers. And as a garden causeth its seeds to vegetate, so will the Lord cause righteousness to spring up and joy in the presence of all nations.

⁷ And I will establish this my covenant with thee and thy seed after thee, throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be thy God and the God of thy seed after thee.

And that they may make holy robes for Aaron and his sons to minister to me, ⁵ they shall take the gold and the blue and the purple and the scarlet yarn and the cotton thread, ⁶ and they shall make the ephod of cotton thread, a woven work of an embroiderer. ⁷ It shall have two shoulder pieces connected with it and to one another, being joined at the two sides. ⁸ And the texture of the two shoulder pieces which are over it shall be of the same fabrick and materials as it is; of pure gold and of blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread. ⁹ And thou shalt take the two stones, smaragdine stones, and engrave upon them the names of the sons of Israel, ¹⁰ six names on one stone and the other six names on the other stone; according to their births. ¹¹ With the workmanship of a skilful engraver, like the engraving of a seal, thou shalt engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. ¹² And thou shalt fix these two stones on the shoulders of the ephod. They are stones of remembrance for the children of Israel. And Aaron shall carry the names of the children of Israel before the Lord on his two shoulders as a memorial concerning them. ¹³ Thou shalt also make little shields of pure gold; ¹⁴ and thou shalt make two pieces of net work of pure gold intermixed with flowers, the work of a curious plaiter, and thou shalt put the plaited net works upon the little shields in the fore front of the shoulder pieces. ¹⁵ And thou shalt make the oracle of judgment, a work of an embroiderer" thou shalt make it, conformable to the ephod, of gold and blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread; ¹⁶ thou shalt make it four square. It shall be double. The length of it a span and the breadth a span. ¹⁷ And thou shalt inweave in it a texture to contain stones in four rows. One row of stones shall be a sardius, a topaz and a smaragdus; this shall be the first row. ¹⁸ And the second row, an anthrax, and a sapphire and a jaspis; ¹⁹ and the third row, a ligure, an agate and an amethyst; ²⁰ and the fourth row, a chrysolite and a beryl and an onyx. And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead continually to make them acceptable before the Lord. ³⁹ Now the embroideries of the vestures shall be of cotton and thou shalt make a tiara of cotton, and thou shalt make a girdle, the work of an embroiderer. ⁴⁰ And for Aaron's sons thou shalt make vestures and girdles. Thou shalt also make tiaras for them for dignity and glory. ⁴¹ And with these thou shalt clothe Aaron thy brother and his sons with him. And thou shalt anoint them and fill their bands and consecrate them that they may minister to me in the priest's office. ⁴² Moreover thou shalt make for them linen drawers to cover their nakedness. These shall reach from the loins to the thighs, ⁴³ and Aaron and his sons shall wear them when they come into the tabernacle of the testimony or when they come near to minister at the altar of the sanctuary, that they may not bring sin upon themselves and die. This shall be a perpetual statute for him and his seed after him.

He will not judge according to opinion, nor will he reprove according to report; ⁴ but he will administer justice to the lowly, and work conviction in the meek of the earth. And he will smite the earth with the word of his mouth, and with a breath from his lips destroy the wicked. ⁵ His loins will be girded with saving goodness, and his reins clothed with truth.

⁸ For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year for a judicial retribution to Sion:

⁴ Take comfort ye who are faint hearted; take courage, be not terrified; behold our God retributeth judgment; he will indeed make retribution; he himself will come and save us.

³ [for I even I myself wished the followers of Christ to be devoted to destruction,] for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, ⁴ who are Israelites, to whom belonged the adoption and the glory, and the covenants, and the civil government, and the religious service, and the promises;

¹⁶ Now if that portion which is set apart from an offering is holy, so will the mass be. And if the root is holy, so are the branches: ¹⁷ And if some of the branches are broken off, and thou being a wild olive art ingrafted among them and become a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, ¹⁸ boast not against the branches. They were broken off for their disbelief, and thou standest for thy belief. Be not high minded; but fear; ²¹ For if God spared not the natural branches, perhaps he may not spare thee. ²² Behold then the kindness and the severity of God: severity against them indeed who have fallen, and kindness to thee if thou continue in that kindness, otherwise thou also wilt be cut off. ²³ And with respect to them, if they continue not in their disbelief, they shall be ingraffed. For God is able to ingraff them again. ²⁴ For if thou hast been cut from a natural wild olive tree, and contrary to nature graffed on a good olive tree; how much more shall they that are natural branches be graffed on their own olive tree.

¹ therefore I exhort you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living, holy, acceptable sacrifice to God as your rational, religious service;

He it is, who hath made both one, and who hath demolished the partition wall, ¹⁵ having; by his flesh put a stop to the enmity; the law of the commandments [contained] in positive injunctions; that he might frame the two anew, in himself, into one new man, making peace; ¹⁶ and reconcile them both in one body, to God by means of the cross, having by that slain the enmity. ¹⁷ And being come he hath proclaimed the glad tidings of peace to you who were far off, and to them who were near. ¹⁸ Because through him we both have access to the father by one spirit, ¹⁹ you therefore are no longer strangers, and pilgrims, but fellow citizens of the saints, and of the household of God, ²⁰ built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the corner stone,

⁵ And may the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the perseverance of the Christ.

²⁵ with meekness instructing opposers: perhaps God may grant them a change of mind so as to acknowledge the truth, ²⁶ and they who have been captivated by the devil for his pleasure, may rouse and escape from his snare.

⁹ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, Therefore God, thy God anointed thee With the oil of joy above thy associates!"

²⁰ Now may the God of this peace, who raised from the dead the shepherd of the flock, who is great by the blood of an everlasting covenant, namely, our Lord Jesus, ²¹ perfect you in every good work, that you may do his will, working in you what is well pleasing in his sight through Jesus Christ: to whom be the glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

⁸ whom without knowing him personally you love; in whom though you do not now see him, yet you believe, and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorified joy,

⁵ and you yourselves as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ;

⁹ but you being a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people peculiarly set apart that you may publish the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

⁹ Be hospitable to one another without grudging. ¹⁰ According as every one hath received a free gift continue dispensing it to each other as good stewards of the manifold grace of God ¹¹ if any one speaketh, as speaking the oracles of God; if any one dispenseth, as dispensing out of a stock which God supplieth; that in all things God may be gloried through Jesus Christ, to whom belongeth the glory and the power, for the ages of the ages. Amen.

⁶ and made us kings and priests to God, even his father to him be the glory and dominion for the ages of the ages. Amen.

⁴ And around the throne there were four and twenty thrones; and on the thrones I saw the four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

¹⁰ and hast made us kings and priests for our God, and we shall reign on the earth."

⁹ After this I looked and behold! a great multitude, which no one could number, of every nation and of tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clad in white robes; and palm branches in their hands; ¹⁰ and they cried with a loud voice, saying, "To our God who is sitting on the throne and to the Lamb be ascribed this salvation!" ¹¹ Whereupon all the angels who stood around the throne and the elders and the four animate beings prostrated themselves before the throne and worshipped God, ¹² saying, "Amen! the blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanks and the honour and the power and the majesty be to our God for ages of the ages! Amen." ¹³ 'Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these who are clad in white robes? and whence came they?" ¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, thou knowest" Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of great affliction and have washed their robes and made them white by the blood of the Lamb.

⁷ let us rejoice and exult with joy and ascribe to him the glory; for the marriage of the lamb is come and his spouse hath made herself ready ⁸ and it hath been granted her, that she should be arrayed in a cotton [robe] clean and white for this cotton is the righteous acts of the saints.

⁶ Happy and holy is he who hath a portion in this first resurrection. Over them the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and the Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.

² And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.

⁹ Then one of the angels who had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues came to me and spoke to me saying, Come let me shew thee the bride the Lamb's wife.
