² What thinkest thou of this in thy pleading? Who art thou that thou shouldst say, "I am righteous before the Lord?"

¹⁷ Let him not break me with a tempest. But he hath multiplied my wounds without cause.

⁷ For thou knowest that I am not impious: but who can deliver out of thy hands?

¹⁷ yet there was no iniquity in my hands. And my prayer was pure.

⁶ Know then, That it is the Lord who hath terrified me, and raised his bulwark against me. ⁷ Behold I laugh at reproach; I will not speak; I will cry aloud, There is no judgment.

² As God liveth, who hath thus condemned me; even the Almighty who hath made my life bitter: ³ while I have the power of breathing and the breath of God is in my nostrils; ⁴ my lips shall not speak wickedness, nor shall my soul contrive mischief. ⁵ Far be it from me to acknowledge you to be right; for till I die, I will not give up mine innocence. ⁶ And for asserting my righteousness I make no apology; for I am not conscious to myself of having done amiss.

⁵ For Job hath said, "I am righteous: the Lord hath removed from me the trial;

⁸ Decline not the trial with Me. Dost thou think that I have spoken to thee for any other purpose, but that thou mayst appear justified?

³⁶ Now I assure you in respect to every idle word which men shall utter, they shall give an account thereof in a day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shall be condemned.

²² Whereupon he Saith to him, Out of thine own mouth I will condemn thee, thou malignant slave. Thou knowest that I am an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow!
