¹³ Behold I stand by this well of water and the daughters of the inhabitants of the city will come out to draw water. ¹⁴ Now let the virgin to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher that I may drink; and who shall say, Drink thou, and I will give water also to thy camels till they have all done drinking; let her be the woman whom thou hast provided for thy servant Isaak. And by this I shall know that thou hast dealt mercifully with my master Abraham.

¹⁸ Upon which she said, Drink, my lord, and hastened to let down the pitcher on her arm and let him drink till he was satisfied. ¹⁹ Then she said, I will draw water for thy camels also until they shall have all drunk. ²⁰ And she hasted and emptied the pitcher into the watering trough and ran to the well to draw more and drew water for all the camels.

⁹ While he was yet speaking with them, lo! Rachel the daughter of Laban came with her father's sheep; for she tended her father's flock. ¹⁰ And when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, Jacob went and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

⁹ [p] Arise ye rich women and hear my voice, hearken to my words ye daughters of hope! ¹⁰ make mention of a day of a year in sorrow, with hope. The vintage is destroyed; it hath failed! must it never come again any more? ¹¹ Be confounded; be grieved, ye confident women! strip; make yourselves bare; gird your loins

³⁹ Accordingly Peter arose and went with them. And when he came they took him up to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him, weeping and shewing the tunicks and mantles which Dorcas had made while she was with them. ⁴⁰ Then Peter, having put them all out, kneeled down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. Upon which she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, sat up.

¹¹ and to make it your ambition to live quietly, and to mind your own business, and work with your own hands, as we charged you;

¹⁰ For when we were with you we gave you this charge, that he who would not work should not eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some among you who walk disorderly, doing no work, but busying themselves impertinently. ¹² Now we charge such, and intreat them by the Lord Jesus Christ, to work quietly, and eat their own bread.

¹⁰ is she eminent for good works? Hath she brought up children? Hath she exercised hospitality? Hath she washed the feet of the saints? Hath she assisted the afflicted? Hath she been assiduous to perform every good work?

¹⁴ My decision therefore is, that the younger widows marry, bear children, govern their families, give no advantage, no occasion of reproach to the adversary.

⁵ to be modest, chaste, attentive to domestic affairs, good, submissive to their husbands; that the word of God may not be ill spoken of.
