¹ A REVELATION of Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to shew to his servants things which must shortly come to pass, and which he sent by his angel, and signified to his servant John, ² who hath testified the word of God, and the testimony of Jesus Christ, and what he saw. ³ Happy he who readeth, and they who hear the words of this prophecy; and keep the things that are written therein! For the time is at hand! ⁴ John to the seven congregations which are in Asia; favour be to you, and peace from him who is, and who was, and who is to come; and from the seven spirits which are before his throne; ⁵ and from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, the first born from the dead, and the sovereign of the kings of the earth. To him who hath loved us, and washed us from our sins with his blood, ⁶ and made us kings and priests to God, even his father to him be the glory and dominion for the ages of the ages. Amen. ⁷ Behold he is coming with clouds, and every eye shall see him, even they who pierced him; and for him all the tribes of the earth shall mourn. Yes, be it so. ⁸ "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end," saith the Lord, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." ⁹ I John, who am your brother, and a partaker in this affliction, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the island which is called Patmos, on the account of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ I was in the spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, like the sound of a trumpet, ¹¹ saying, "I am the Alpha and the Omega; the first and the last," and "what thou seest, write in a book, and send it to the seven congregations which are in Asia, to Ephesus and to Smyrna, and to Pergamus, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea." ¹² Whereupon I turned to look towards the voice which spake to me; and upon turning about, I saw seven golden candlesticks, ¹³ and in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks one like a son of man, clothed with a robe down to the feet, and girded about the breast with a golden girdle; ¹⁴ and as for his head, the hairs like wool were glittering white as snow, and his eyes were like a flame of fire; ¹⁵ and his feet were like fine brass, as if they were glowing in a furnace; and his voice was like the sound of many waters. ¹⁶ And he had in his right hand seven stars; and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword. And his countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷ And when I saw him I fell at his feet as one dead. Whereupon he laid his right hand on me, and said to me, "Fear not. I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ even he who liveth. Though I was dead yet behold I am alive, and live for the ages of the ages, Amen. And I have the keys of the mansion of the dead, and of death. ¹⁹ Write what thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which are about to be hereafter. ²⁰ With respect to the hidden meaning of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks; the seven stars are the angels of the seven congregations and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven congregations.

¹ After these things a word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I protect thee. Thy reward shall be exceedingly great.

³ And may my God bless thee and make thee fruitful and multiply thee, that thou mayst become a multitude of nations.

¹¹ And God said to him, I am thy God. Increase and multiply. Of thee shall be nations and collections of nations; and kings shall spring from thy loins.

¹⁴ And may my God grant you favour in the sight of the man that he may send back your brother with Benjamin. As for me I am bereaved of children as I have been bereaved.

³ And Jacob said to Joseph, My God appeared to me at Louza in the land of Chanaan and blessed me

²⁵ And My God hath helped thee; and blessed thee With the blessing of heaven from above, And with the blessing of a land having all things, By reason of the blessing of breasts and womb,

¹⁴ On which God spoke to Moses saying, I am The I Am. Moreover he said, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, The I Am hath sent me to you.

³ and I appeared to Abraham and to Isaak and to Jacob as their God. Though I did not clearly manifest to them my name Lord,

¹³ Whereupon Moses said to the people, Take courage; stand still and see the salvation which cometh from the Lord; which he will work for you this day. For in the manner you have seen the Egyptians this day, you shall never see them again any more.

⁶ but as for you, you shall be a royal priesthood and a holy nation. These words thou shalt deliver to the children of Israel.

²⁰ Whereupon Moses said to them, Take courage; for God is come to you to prove you, that the dread of him may be in you, that you may not sin.

³⁷ And thou shalt make the seven lamps for it, and place the lamps so that they may give light in one row.

⁶ and they shall make the ephod of cotton thread, a woven work of an embroiderer. ⁷ It shall have two shoulder pieces connected with it and to one another, being joined at the two sides. ⁸ And the texture of the two shoulder pieces which are over it shall be of the same fabrick and materials as it is; of pure gold and of blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread.

⁷ Then he arrayed him with the vesture, and girded him with the oracle and put on him the under robe, and over it he put on the ephod, and girded him with the girdle of the same fabrick as the ephod, and bound him up tight with it,

⁴ It is the saying of him, who hath heard the oracles of the Almighty; Who in sleep hath seen a vision of God; whose eyes were opened.

¹⁷ I can point to him, though he is not now; I hail him happy tho" he is not near. A star will arise out of Jacob; There shall rise up a man out of Israel, And he will smite the princes of Moab, And plunder all the sons of Seth:

⁸ but because the Lord loved you, therefore in performance of the oath which he swore to your fathers, the Lord led you out with a strong hand, and the Lord redeemed thee from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao king of Egypt.

⁵ but the Lord thy God would not hearken to Balaam. Nay, the Lord thy God turned the curses into a blessing, because the Lord thy God loved thee.

¹⁹ Now therefore write the words of this Ode and teach it to the children of Israel, and put it into their mouth, that this Ode may be an open witness for me among the children of Israel.

³¹ So perish all thine enemies, Lord, But let them who love thee be like The going forth of the Sun in his might. So the land had rest forty years.

²⁵ For I know that he is eternal, ²⁶ who is about to dissolve me on earth, to raise again this skin of mine which draweth up these things. ²⁷ For from the Lord those things have been done to me, of which I alone am conscious; which mine eyes have seen, and no other; and which have all been done to me in my bosom.

²⁶ And when he hath prayed to the Lord, and shall enjoy acceptable things, he will come with a cheerful countenance and with thanks: and render justice to men.

⁷ When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.

⁴⁶ Live the Lord! and blessed be my God! and let the God of my salvation be exalted:

¹⁶ Because many dogs have encompassed me, an assembly of wicked men have beset me; have pierced my hands and my feet;

¹⁴ The Lord is the strength of them who fear him; and it is his covenant to display it for them.

²⁰ Our God is the God to save; and to the Lord belong the out goings of death.

¹¹ Let all the kings pay him homage; all the nations serve as vassals.

¹⁸ Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel; who alone doth wonderful things. ¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever and ever: and let all the earth be filled with his glory. Amen. Amen.

²⁷ and I will set him as a first born; high above all the kings of the earth.

³⁶ His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me; ³⁷ and as the moon forever fixed: and the witness in heaven is faithful."

⁴ By reason of the roaring of many waters; the mountainous billows of the sea are wonderful. The Lord on high is wonderful;

³⁴ happy is the man who will hearken to me: and the man who will keep my ways; watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

⁶ because for us a child is born, and to us a son is given, whose government is on his own shoulder; and his name is called, "The Messenger of Great Counsel." For I will bring peace on the rulers and health for him.

² and the spirit of God will rest upon him; a spirit of wisdom and understanding; a spirit of counsel and majesty; a spirit of knowledge and piety:

⁴ but he will administer justice to the lowly, and work conviction in the meek of the earth. And he will smite the earth with the word of his mouth, and with a breath from his lips destroy the wicked. ⁵ His loins will be girded with saving goodness, and his reins clothed with truth.

¹³ The multitude of nations being like a great flood, their flight shall be like that of a mighty torrent rolling on impetuously. For he will repulse them with scorn, and pursue them to a great distance, like chaff before the wind when men winnow, or as a tempest driveth the dust of a wheel.

¹ A vision concerning Egypt. Behold the Lord is seated on a swift cloud; and he will come into Egypt; and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence; and the heart of the people shall melt within them.

²² And I will give him the glory of David, and he shall rule and there shall be no antagonist; and on his shoulder I will lay the key of the house of David; and he will open and none shall shut; and he will shut and none shall open:

²³ [c] When the bricks shall have mouldered away, and the wall shall have fallen; because the Lord will commence his reign from Sion and from Jerusalem, and be glorified in the presence of the elders;

⁸ Now therefore sit down and write these things in a tablet and make a book that they may be for the appointed time; even for the time to come.

⁴ Who hath performed and done these things? He who called that righteousness; who from the generations of the beginning is calling it I God the First, and to the succeeding ages, THE I AM.

¹⁰ Fear not, for I am with thee; be not led astray, for I am thy God. I have strengthened thee and helped thee, and secured thee with my just right hand.

¹⁰ [J] Be you witnesses for me: and as for me I myself am a witness saith the Lord God; and this servant of mine whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe and understand that with respect to me, The I AM, There is no other God before me; and after me none will exist.

⁶ Thus saith God, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the God of Hosts, I am the first and I am the last: be sides me there is no God.

¹² Hearken to me, Jacob! and thou Israel whom I call. I am the first and am forever.

¹⁵ Thus saith the Most High, who on earth inhabiteth eternity, who is Holy among holies; whose name is THE MOST HIGH; who at rest in the holies giveth patience to the humble, and life to them who are of a contrite heart;

¹⁹ And thou shalt no more have the sun for a light by day nor shall the rising of the moon enlighten thy night; but the Lord will be to thee an everlasting light; and thy God will be thy glory. ²⁰ For thy sun shall not go down nor shall thy moon ever wane: For the Lord will be to thee an everlasting light; and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

⁶ But you shall be called priests of the Lord, ministers of God. You shall eat the wealth of nations and for their riches be admired.

² Thus spake the Lord the God of Israel, saying, Write all the words which I have delivered to thee in a book:

And upon the resemblance of the throne a resemblance like the appearance of a man above. ²⁷ And I saw a resemblance of amber from the appearance of the loins and upwards; and from the appearance of the loins and downwards, I saw an appearance of fire: and the splendor thereof round about ²⁸ was like the bow which is in the clouds in a showery day. ³ And he led me thither. And lo! a man, whose appearance resembled that of sparkling brass; and in his hand a builder's line and a measuring reed. And he stood at the gate.

⁵ Then a spirit took me up and brought me to the inner court. And lo! the house was filled with the glory of the Lord. ⁶ So I stopped. And lo! a voice from the house, of one speaking to me, and the man stood near me.

² And the king gave orders to call the soothsayers and the magians and the chymists and the Chaldees that they might tell the king his dream.

²⁸ There is none but God in heaven who revealeth secrets. He indeed hath made known to the king Nabuchodonosar what must come to pass in latter days. With regard to thy dream, and the visions of thy head, on thy bed, this is it. ²⁹ Thy thoughts, king, on thy bed ascended to what might come to pass hereafter. And he who revealeth secrets made known to thee the things which must come to pass.

³⁴ And at the end of the days I Nabuchodonosar lifted up mine eyes to heaven, and mine understanding was restored to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and glorified him who liveth forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion and his kingdom is to endless generations,

⁹ And I beheld till the thrones were set and an ancient of days was seated, and his garment was white as snow and the hair of his head was like pure wool. His throne was a flame of fire and his wheels a blazing fire.

¹³ And I beheld in the vision of the night, and lo! with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man coming! And he advanced to the Ancient of days and was introduced to him. ¹⁴ And to him was given the government and the honour and the kingdom; and all the peoples, tribes and languages are to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall never pass away, and his kingdom shall not be destroyed.

¹⁰ and its greatness reached even to the host of heaven. And there fell on the earth some of the host of heaven and some of the stars, and these were trodden down.

¹⁶ And I heard a voice of a man amidst the Oubal and it called and said, "Gabriel, instruct him respecting the vision." ¹⁷ So he came and stood near where I was standing. And when he came, I was struck with terror and fell on my face. And he said to me, Son of man, understand; for this vision also is for the end of a time. ¹⁸ And while he was speaking to me, I fell flat with my face on the ground. Then he touched me and set me on my feet,

²¹ even whilst I was uttering this prayer, behold a man, Gabriel, whom I saw in the former vision, came flying and touched me about the hour of the evening sacrifice

²³ At the beginning of thy supplication a word went forth, and I am come to tell thee; for thou art a man greatly beloved. Be instructed therefore by the decree, and understand by the vision.

⁵ I raised mine eyes and looked, and lo! a man clothed with a flowing robe and his loins girded with gold of Ophaz, ⁶ and his body like a Tharsis, and his face like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes like lamps of fire, and his arms and his legs like the appearance of sparkling brass, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.

⁸ so I was left alone. And when I beheld this great vision, there was no strength left in me. Even my comeliness was changed into corruption and I retained no strength; ⁹ but I heard the sound of his words. And when I heard him, I was struck with awe, and my face was on the ground. ¹⁰ And lo! a hand touched me and raised me up upon my knees.

¹² Then he said to me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to gain knowledge and afflict thyself before the Lord thy God, thy words were heard, and I came at thy words;

¹⁵ Now while he was speaking to me in such terms, I turned my countenance to the earth, and was in amaze; ¹⁶ and behold a likeness as it were of a son of man touched my lips, whereupon I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, my lord, at the sight of thee my vitals are changed, and I have no strength; ¹⁷ how then can thy servant, my lord, speak with this my lord? As for me, from that moment my strength could not support me and there was no spirit left in me. ¹⁸ Then an appearance like that of a man touched me again, and strengthened me ¹⁹ and said to me, Man much beloved, fear not: peace be to thee. Take courage and be strong. And when he had spoken to me I recovered strength and said, Let my lord speak, for thou hast strengthened me.

³ And they who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and some of the many righteous like the stars for the ages and longer.

¹² Happy he who will wait and come to a thousand three hundred and thirty five days. ¹³ But as for thee, come and go to rest, for still there will be days and hours to the final accomplishment. And thou shalt stand up for thy portion at the end of days.

⁷ Seeing the Lord will not do any thing without giving warning to his servants;

² But as for thee, Bethlehem, thou house of Ephratha, art thou too little to be one of the chiliads of Juda? Out of thee one shall come forth for me to be the chief of Israel. His goings forth have been from the beginning; from the days of an age.

⁹ [6] Let the voice of the Lord be proclaimed in the city and it will save them who fear his name. [J] Hear, tribe! Who is the man that will adorn a city?

³ [a] The Lord is slow to anger, though his power is great; will not the Lord then acquit the innocent? Is his way in destruction and whirlwind, when clouds are the dust of his feet? [[a] An objection, [b] The answer]

² And the Lord answered and said, [J] Write a vision: write it distinctly in a book that the reader may trace these things;

¹⁶ I watched myself; and at the sound of the prayer of my lips my bowels trembled and a tremor seized my bones; and under me my whole frame quivered. I shall be at rest in the day of affliction, at the time of his coining to the people of my neighbourhood.

⁹ since with regard to that stone which I have set before Jesus, upon that one stone there are seven eyes; behold I am digging a pit saith the Lord Almighty, and I will feel all the iniquity of this land in one day.

² and said to me, what dost thou see? And I said, I have looked and lo! a candlestick all of gold with the lamp dish on the top of it; and seven lamps on the top of it; and seven pipes, for the seven lamps on the top of it;

¹⁰ since a certain person hath despised these as small days,] that those seven eyes will be gladdened, when they shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zorobabel; they are the eyes which survey the whole earth.

⁵ And the angel who was talking with me answered and said, These are the four winds of heaven. They are going out to wait on the Lord of the whole earth.

¹⁰ And when I pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and compassion, then will they look to him whom they pierced, and they will mourn for him with a mourning as for a beloved; and be afflicted with sorrow as for a first born.

¹ In that day every place will be opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for the removal and for the separation.

⁷ Because the lips of a priest were to keep knowledge therefore law was to be sought from his mouth; since he is a messenger of the Lord Almighty:

² But to you who fear my name the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth and leap for joy like young bullocks loosed from yokes.

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city situate on a mountain cannot be hid. ¹⁵ A lamp is not lighted and put under the corn measure, but on the stand, that it may give light to all the family. ¹⁶ Thus let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.

¹³ and bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil [for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for the ages, amen.

¹¹ And he in reply said to them, To you it hath been granted to know the secrets of the reign of the heavens; but to them it hath not been granted.

¹⁹ And I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens; and whatsoever thou shall bind on the earth, will be bound in the heavens; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on the earth, will be loosed in the heavens.

Hear ye him. ⁶ Upon hearing this the disciples fell on their face and were greatly affrighted. ⁷ But Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, Be not afraid.

⁴³ He saith to them, How then doth David by the spirit call him Lord; saying,

³⁰ And then, all the tribes of the land will mourn: and they shall see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

⁶⁴ Jesus saith to him, It is as thou hast spoken. Moreover I say to you, Hereafter you shall see the son of man sitting at the right hand of that Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.

³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. ⁴ And for fear of him the guards trembled, and became as dead men.

¹⁸ Then Jesus came near and spoke to them, saying, All power in heaven and on earth is given to me.

²⁶ And then they shall see the son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

⁶² Thereupon Jesus said, I am. And you shall see the son of man seated on the right hand of that power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

⁵ And going into the sepulchre, they saw a youth sitting on the right side, clothed with a white robe, and they were terrified. ⁶ Whereupon he said to them, Be not terrified. You are seeking Jesus, the Nazarene, who was crucified. He is risen. He is not here. Behold the place where they laid him.

¹⁰ he said, To you it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, which to others are couched under parables, so that they see and do not see, and they hear and do not understand.

²⁸ Whereupon he said, Nay, rather happy they who hear the word of God and keep it.

²⁷ and they shall then see the son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.

²⁸ Whereupon, Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me; but weep for yourselves and for your children; ²⁹ for lo! days are coming in which they will say, Happy the barren, and the wombs which never bare, and the breasts which never gave suck. ³⁰ Then will they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us: and to the hills, Cover us.

³⁷ At which they were affrighted, and, being in terror, thought they saw a spirit; ³⁸ he said to them, Why are you alarmed? And why do groundless surmises arise in your hearts? ³⁹ View my hands and my feet; that it is I myself; handle me and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as you see me have.

³² Moreover John testified saying, I beheld the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven, and it remained upon him.

¹¹ Verily, verily I say to thee, We speak what we know, and testify what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony.

³² and what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth, yet none receiveth his testimony.

²³ that all may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, doth not honour the Father, who sent him.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, Though I testify concerning myself, my testimony is to be regarded, because I know whence I came, and whither I am going. But as for you, you do not know whence I come, nor whither I am going. ¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh, I judge no one. ¹⁶ Yet if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me.

²⁶ and am now telling you. I have many things to speak and to judge respecting you. He indeed who sent me is true, and I speak to the world what I have heard from him.

¹⁷ Now because the multitude who were with him testified that he had called Lazarus from the tomb, and raised him, from the dead;

⁴⁹ Because I have not spoken from myself, but the father who sent me hath himself given me a command what I should enjoin, and what I should speak,

¹ . Now before this festival of the passover, as Jesus knew that his time was come that he should remove from this world to the father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the last.

⁸ Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee thou hast no portion with me. ⁹ Simon Peter saith to him; Master, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head. ¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He who hath bathed needeth only to wash the feet, the rest of the body being clean. Now you are clean, but not all,

²³ Now one of the disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclined at table next to Jesus.

³⁴ A new commandment I give you, that you love one another. As I have loved you, that you also love one another.

¹⁹ Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more; but you see me. Because I live therefore you shall live.

⁹ As the Father hath loved me, so I have loved you. Continue ye in my love.

¹⁵ I no longer call you servants; because the servant doth not know what his master doth. But I have called you friends, because I have made known to you all that I heard from my Father.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that you may have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble; but take courage: I have overcome the world.

⁸ Because I have given them the doctrines which thou gavest me, therefore they have received them, and know certainly that I came forth from thee; and believe that thou didst send me.

³⁷ Thereupon Pilate said to him, Thou art a king then? Jesus answered, It is as thou sayest, I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to bear testimony for the truth. Every one who is of the truth hearkeneth to my voice.

³⁴ But one of the soldiers with his spear pierced his side, and blood and water issued forth immediately. ³⁵ Now he who was an eye witness hath testified this. And his testimony is true, and [Jesus] himself knoweth that he speaketh the truth that you may believe.

³⁷ And again another scripture saith, "They will look on him whom they have pierced."

¹⁹ In the evening, on that same day, the first day of the week, the doors where the disciples assembled being shut for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith to them, "Peace be to you."

²⁶ And after eight days, his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be to you.

²⁰ Now when Peter turned about and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, [even him who at the supper reclined on his breast and said, Master, who is he that is about to deliver thee up]

²⁴ This is the disciple who testifieth concerning these things and hath written these things. And we know that his testimony is true.

⁹ And having said this, while they were beholding [him] he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And as they continued looking stedfastly up to heaven, while he was going, behold! two men stood near them, robed in white, ¹¹ who addressed them, saying, Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? This same Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner as you have seen him going to heaven.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

¹⁰ Now he had become hungry and wished to take some refreshment; and while it was preparing he fell into a trance, ¹¹ and saw the heaven opened, and a kind of vessel coming down to him, like a great sheet tied by the four corners, and let down to the earth, ¹² in which were all sorts of four footed beasts of the earth, namely, the wild beasts and the reptiles, and the birds of the air. ¹³ And there came a voice to him, Rise Peter; Kill And Eat. ¹⁴ Whereupon Peter said, By no means, Lord. For I have never eaten any thing common or unclean. ¹⁵ And a voice said to him a second time, What God hath cleansed call not thou that common. ¹⁶ And this was done thrice, and then the vessel was again taken up into heaven. ¹⁷ And while Peter was in great doubt, what this vision which he had seen could mean, behold the men who were sent by Cornelius, having inquired out Simon's house, stood at the gate, ¹⁸ and calling, asked, Doth Simon who is surnamed Peter, lodge here? ¹⁹ And while Peter was pondering on the vision, the spirit said to him, Behold there are three men inquiring for thee. ²⁰ Arise therefore, get thee down and go with them, without any cavilling, for I have sent them. ²¹ So Peter went down to the men who were sent to him from Cornelius, and said, Behold I am he for whom you are inquiring. What is the cause of your coming? ²² They said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man, and one who feareth God, and is approved by the testimony of the whole Jewish nation, hath been divinely warned by a holy angel to send for thee to his house and receive instruction from thee. ²³ Peter therefore, having invited them in, entertained them hospitably, and on the morrow he set out with them. And some of the brethren who were of Joppa accompanied him. ²⁴ And on the day following they arrived at Caesarea, Now Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and intimate friends. ²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and prostrating himself at his feet, made obeisance. ²⁶ But Peter raised him up, saying, Rise up: I am but a man. ²⁷ Then conversing with him he went in, and finding many assembled ²⁸ he said to them, You know unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew, to associate with or go to one of another nation: but God hath shewn me, that I am not to call any man common or unclean. ²⁹ For this cause, when I was sent for, I came without any hesitation. I ask therefore on what account you have sent for me? ³⁰ Thereupon Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting till this hour, and at the ninth hour praying in my house. And lo! a man stood before me in splendid attire, ³¹ and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine acts of benevolence are remembered before God; ³² send therefore to Joppa for Simon who is surnamed Peter. He lodgeth at the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea side. He will come and speak to thee. ³³ Therefore I sent to thee immediately and thou hast done well in coming. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God, to hear all that God hath given thee in charge.

²² establishing and confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith. And because we must enter into the kingdom of God through many afflictions;

¹⁹ and touching at Ephesus he left them there. He indeed having gone to the synagogue discoursed to the Jews; ²⁰ but though they requested him to tarry longer with them he would not consent, ²¹ but took his leave of them, saying, I must by all means keep the ensuing festival at Jerusalem. But I will come back to you again, if God permit. So, sailing from Ephesus

²⁴ In the mean while a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, had come to Ephesus.

¹ Now while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper provinces came to Ephesus, where finding2 certain disciples ² he said to them, Did you receive a holy spirit when you believed? Upon which they said to him, We have not so much as heard that a holy spirit is [received.] ³ There upon he said to them, To what then were ye baptized? And they said, To the baptism of John. ⁴ Then Paul said, John indeed baptized the baptism of reformation, telling the people that they should believe in one coming after him, namely in Jesus The Christ. ⁵ Upon hearing this they were baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus; ⁶ and Paul having laid his hands on them, the holy spirit came upon them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. ⁷ Now they were in all about twelve men. ⁸ Now having gone to the synagogue he spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and recommending the things concerning the kingdom of God. ⁹ But as some were stubborn disbelievers and continued to revile the way before the multitude, he withdrew from them and separated the disciples, discoursing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. ¹⁰ And this he continued to do for the space of two years, so that all the inhabitants of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord Jesus.

And the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. ¹⁸ And many of them who believed came and confessed, and made a public acknowledgment of their deeds. ¹⁹ And several of them having practised magical arts, brought their books and burned them publicly, the value of them by computation amounting to fifty thousand pieces of silver. ²⁰ So powerfully did the word of the Lord increase and prevail. ²¹ Now when these things were accomplished, Paul resolved in his mind, after passing through Macedonia and Achaia to go to Jerusalem, saying, after I have been there, I must also see Rome. ²² So having sent forward two of them who attended him, namely Timothy and Erastus, into Macedonia, he himself tarried some time in Asia. ²³ And during that time there was a considerable disturbance about this way. ²⁴ For one Demetrius, a silversmith, a maker of silver shrines of Diana, kept in employ a great number of artists; ²⁵ and having assembled these and the workmen of like occupation, he said, "Men, you know that on this manufacture dependeth our maintenance. ²⁶ And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul by his persuasion hath perverted a vast multitude, saying that they which are made with hands, are not gods. ²⁷ So that not only this occupation of ours is in danger of being brought into disrepute; but the temple also of the great goddess Diana, of .being set at naught; and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth." ²⁸ Upon hearing this and being full of rage they shouted, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. ²⁹ And the whole city was filled with confusion. And they rushed with one accord into the theatre, dragging along with them Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's fellow travellers. ³⁰ Upon this Paul had a mind to go to the people, but the disciples did not permit him. ³¹ And some of the chiefs of Asia also, who were his friends, sent to him and advised him not to venture into the theatre. ³² Now some cried one thing; and some, another. For the congregation was in the utmost confusion, and the greater part did not know for what particular purpose they had convened. ³³ But when they had thrust Alexander out of the crowd, the Jews pushing him forward, and Alexander waving his hand wished to make a defence to the people, ³⁴ they knowing that he was a Jew, there was, for about two hours, one continued shout from all, crying out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. ³⁵ At length the recorder having stilled the crowd, said, Men of Ephesus, who is there who doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is a humble devotee of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell from Jupiter? ³⁶ Since these things are incontestable you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. ³⁷ For you have brought hither these men, who have neither violated things sacred, nor reviled your goddess. ³⁸ If now Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have an action against any one, the courts are open and there are proconsuls to judge: let them bring their suits. ³⁹ And if you seek any thing in respect to other matters, let it be discussed in a legal assembly of the people. ⁴⁰ For we indeed are in danger of being called in question for this day's riot, there being no cause which we can assign for this tumultuous concourse. 41 Having said this, he dismissed the assembly.

⁷ And on the first day of the week when the disciples assembled to break bread, Paul, being about to depart on the morrow, discoursed with them, and lengthened out the discourse till midnight.

¹⁷ So from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called hither the elders of the congregation.

²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves and to the whole flock among which the holy spirit hath made you overseers to tend the congregation of God which he hath purchased with his own blood.

¹⁵ that thou mayst be a witness for him to all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

¹³ in the middle of the day, on the road, I saw, O king, a light from heaven, exceeding the brightness of the sun, flashing around me and them who were accompanying me.

¹⁶ But arise, and stand on thy feet; for I have appeared to thee for this purpose, to appoint thee a minister and a witness of the things which thou hast seen, and of the things for which I will appear to thee,

²³ that the Christ should suffer, that he the first of a resurrection from the dead is to proclaim light to the people and the nations.

⁷ to all who are at Rome, beloved of God, called and consecrated; favour be to you, and peace from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁷ to them who by perseverance in well-doing, seek for glory and honour, and incorruption [he will grant] everlasting life; ⁸ but for them who are contentious and disobedient to the truth and in subjection to unrighteousness, there will be indignation and wrath,

³ And not only so, but we boast also in our tribulations, as we know that tribulation operateth to produce patience; ⁴ and patience, a proof; and proof, a hope;

⁹ as we know that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more. Death hath no more a mastery over him.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirs; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ if we suffer with him so that with him we may also be glorified.

³⁷ We indeed in all these things are more than conquerors by means of him who hath loved us.

³⁶ Because of him, and by him, and for him are all things; to him be the glory forever, Amen;

¹¹ Furthermore, as we know the season, that it is now high time for us to rouse from sleep, for our deliverance is nearer now than when we first believed:

⁸ For whether we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord; so that whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living.

⁶ that you may unanimously, with one voice, glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my glad tidings and the proclamation of Jesus Christ; according to the disclosure of a secret which was concealed in times of old,

³ favour be to you, and peace from God our father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁶ in the same manner as the testimony of Christ was confirmed among you;

¹ Now as for me, brethren, when I came to you, I did not come with a pomp of language or of wisdom, announcing to you the testimony of God;

⁹ For it seems as if God had exhibited us, the apostles, last on the stage as devoted to death since we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men. ¹⁰ We are fools on the account of Christ; but you are prudent in Christ: We are weak; but you are strong: you are honourable; but we are despised: ¹¹ Even at this very moment we are hungry and thirsty and naked and buffeted, and are wandering about and weary, ¹² working with our own hands. Being reviled we give good words; being persecuted we suffer patiently; ¹³ being defamed we exhort. We are become as it were the expiatory sacrifices of the world; the refuse of all things until now.

¹¹ Now such some of you were; but, you have washed yourselves; but you are hallowed, but you are acquitted by the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God.

⁴ Now, there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit; ⁵ and there are diversities of offices, but the same Lord; ⁶ and there are diversities of energies, but it is the same God who by his inward operation worketh all these effects in all. ⁷ Now, this manifestation of the spirit is given to every one for that which is profitable. ⁸ For to one is given, by the spirit, a word of wisdom; and to another, a word of knowledge according to the same spirit; ⁹ and to another, faith, by the same spirit; and to another, gifts of healing, by the same spirit; ¹⁰ and to another, mighty powers of working miracles; and to another, the gift of prophecy; and to another, that of discerning spirits; and to another, divers languages; and to another, the interpretation of languages. ¹¹ Now, it is one and the same spirit who effecteth all these, distributing his own as he pleaseth, to every one. ¹² For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is the Christ. ¹³ For by one spirit we are all baptized to one body, whether we were Jews or Greeks, slaves, or freemen; and have all been made to drink to one spirit.

²⁰ But now Christ hath been raised from the dead. He was the first fruits of them who have been composed to rest. ²¹ For since by man came death, by man also cometh a resurrection of the dead. ²² For as by Adam all die, so by the Christ all shall be brought to life: ²³ but every one in his proper order; Christ the first fruits; then they who belong to Christ, at his coming:

³² "if I as a man had fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is that to me if the dead are not raised up? Let us eat and drink, for to morrow we die."

² Every first day of the week, let every one of you lay by him, and put into a common treasury, what he can conveniently; that when I come there may be no collection then made.

⁸ But I will stay at Ephesus until the pentecost,

² Favour be to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ For the love of the Christ urgeth us on, judging this, that if one died for all then indeed were they all dying, ¹⁵ and that he died for all to the end that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for him who died and was raised up for them.

¹⁸ and be to you a father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

² I know a man in Christ, that fourteen years ago such a one was suddenly conveyed to the third heaven, [whether in the body I do not know or out of the body I do not know, God knoweth] ³ and I know that such a man was suddenly conveyed to paradise [whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knoweth] ⁴ and he heard unutterable things which it is out of the power of man to express.

⁴ For though from weakness he was crucified, yet by the power of God he is alive, therefore though we are weak in him, yet by the power of God we will be alive with him for you.

¹² for I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it; but by revelation of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ I have been crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live"not I myself any more, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in flesh, I live by that belief which I have in the son of God, who loved me and delivered up himself for me.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, to the saints; to them who are at Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus:

²⁰ of his which he exerted in the Christ: Having raised Him from the dead, he set him at his right hand, in the heavenly kingdom, ²¹ far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion, and every name which is named, not only in this age but in that to come; ²² and put all things under his feet, and constituted him head over all for the congregation,

⁴ then God, who is rich in mercy, on the account of the great love with which he loved us,

³ that he hath by a revelation made known to me this secret [as I have briefly written above,

² And walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, as an3 offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

²⁵ Husbands love your wives, even as the Christ loved the congregation, and gave himself up for it, ²⁶ that having purified it with the bath of the water, he might hallow it; indeed ²⁷ that he might present it to himself as the glorious congregation, having neither spot, nor wrinkle, nor any defect whatever; but that it may be holy and without blemish.

¹⁷ Take also the helmet of salvation, and the sword o" the spirit, that is the word of God;

⁷ as it is just for me to be thus affected towards you all, because you have me in your heart; and in my bonds and in the defence and support of the glad tidings you all continue to be fellow sharers with me of this favour.

⁷ but he emptied himself"having taken the form of a servant, being in the likeness of men, ⁸ and found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, even the death of a cross;

¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the father.

¹⁵ that you may be blameless and sincere, spotless children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, amongst whom shine ye forth as lights in the world, ¹⁶ displaying the word of life, that I may have matter of boasting for the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain, nor labour in vain,

¹⁴ Notwithstanding this you did well in assisting me in my distress.

¹⁸ and he is the head of the body, namely of the congregation. He who is the beginning is a first born from the dead that in all things he might be pre-eminent.

³ For you have died, and your life is hid with the Christ in God.

¹⁵ Salute the brethren at Laodicea, particularly Nymphas and the congregation at his house. ¹⁶ And when this letter hath been read among you cause it to be read also in the congregation of the Laodiceans; and read ye that from Laodicea.

¹⁰ and to wait for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, namely Jesus, who delivered! us from the wrath to come

¹⁷ afterwards we who are left alive shall, together with them, be conveyed in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall be forever with the Lord.

⁴ So that we ourselves boast of you in the congregations of God, on account of your perseverance and belief, in all your persecutions. Indeed by these afflictions which you endure ⁵ there is a clear evidence of the righteous judgment of God that you are accounted worthy of the kingdom of God for which you, actually suffer;

⁵ And may the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the perseverance of the Christ.

³ As I entreated thee, when I was going to Macedonia, to continue at Ephesus; that thou mightest charge certain persons not to teach a different doctrine,

¹⁴ These things I write to thee, hoping to come to thee in a little time; ¹⁵ but if I be delayed, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to conduct thyself in the house of God, that is in the congregation of the living God. The pillar and firm support of the truth is ¹⁶ [and unquestionably great is the mystery of this religion,] God hath been manifested in flesh, justified by spirit, hath appeared to messengers, been proclaimed among nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

¹³ I charge thee in the presence of God, who giveth life to all, and of Christ Jesus who witnessed before Pontius Pilate the good confession,

¹⁵ which, in his own proper times will be displayed by him, who is the blessed and only potentate, the king of kings and the lord of lords, ¹⁶ who alone hath immortality, who inhabiteth light inaccessible, whom no man hath seen, or can see, to whom be honour and everlasting dominion. Amen.

⁸ Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me who am a prisoner on his account; but share with me in affliction for the glad tidings, according to the power of God,

³ Do thou therefore endure hardships as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. ⁴ No one going to war entangleth himself with worldly affairs, that he may please him who hath inlisted him. ⁵ And if a man combateth in the public games, he is not crowned, unless he combat according' to the rules prescribed. ⁶ The husbandman must labour before he partaketh of the fruits. 7 Consider what I say, and may the

⁸ Lord grant thee understanding in all things. Remember Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, raised from the dead according to these glad tidings of mine ⁹ for which I suffer even to bonds, as a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound. ¹⁰ For this Cause I bear all things patiently for the sake of the chosen, that they also may obtain that salvation which is by Christ Jesus, with everlasting glory. ¹¹ This is a faithful word. For if we have died with him, we shall also live with him. ¹² If we suffer, we shall indeed reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us.

³ who being an effulgence of the glory, and an impress of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having by himself made a purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high,

¹⁰ Again, "Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of thy hand. ¹¹ They shall perish, but thou wilt endure. They shall all wax old like a garment, ¹² And like a mantle thou wilt fold them up and they shall be changed :But as for thee, thou art the same And thy years shall have no end". ¹³ And to which of these messengers did he ever say, "Sit at my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool."

¹⁴ As the children therefore were partakers of flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same in order that he might, by his death, put a stop to the operation of him who hath the power of death, that is the devil; ¹⁵ and deliver from bondage them who were all their lives liable to the fear of death. ¹⁶ For he indeed doth not take hold of angels, but taketh hold of the seed of Abraham, ¹⁷ whence it behoved him to be made like his brethren in all things; that he might be a merciful and faithful chief priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrateth even to the separation of animal life and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is capable of discerning the desires and thoughts of the heart.

⁶ and have fallen off; it is impossible to renew them again for a reformation, since they are crucifying for themselves afresh the son of God and exposing him to open shame.

¹⁶ who is made not according to the law of a commandment concerning flesh, but according to the power of an endless life.

²⁵ So that he is completely able to save them, who come to God by him, as he is ever alive to intercede for them.

¹⁴ how much more will the' blood of the Christ, who by an eternal spirit hath offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works that you may serve the living God.

²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, think ye, will he be thought worthy, who hath trampled upon the Son of God, and accounted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, a common thing, and treated contemptuously the spirit of grace?

³⁶ For you must persevere, that when you have performed the will of God, you may receive the promised reward.

² looking forward to Jesus, the leader and perfecter of this faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured a cross, despising shame, and hath taken a seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁸ Be not led away by various and strange doctrines, for it is better to have the heart strengthened with favour than with meats which have not profited those versed in them.

²¹ perfect you in every good work, that you may do his will, working in you what is well pleasing in his sight through Jesus Christ: to whom be the glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹⁷ Every good donation, and every perfect gift, is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will he hath impregnated us with a word of truth, that we may be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

⁷ Wherefore be ye, brethren, patient till the coming of the Lord. Behold the husbandman expecteth the precious fruits of the earth, waiting for them with patience, until it hath received the former and the latter rain. ⁸ Wait ye also with patience. Strengthen your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is near.

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the sojourners of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, ² whom God the Father, according to his predetermination hath chosen, that by a sanctification of spirit they may obey, and be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ; favour be to you, and may peace be multiplied.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot,

⁵ and you yourselves as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ; ⁶ on which account also there is in the scripture this passage, "Behold I lay in Sion a chosen, precious, chief corner stone, and he who confideth in it, shall not be ashamed," ⁷ this honour then being for you who believe: but to the disbelieving, "the stone, which the builders rejected that which was for the head of the corner," ⁸ is indeed a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence. They disbelieving the word stumble at the thing for which they were laid: ⁹ but you being a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people peculiarly set apart that you may publish the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

⁷ Now the end of all things is at hand, therefore be sober, and watch unto prayer,

Alas! the great city by which all who have ships at sea were enriched by means of her wealth; for in one hour she is desolated. ²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven! and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
