⁶ Because they poured out the blood of thy saints and prophets, therefore thou hast given them blood to drink, for they deserve it.

⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh With the blood of slain and captives. From the head of enemy chiefs. ⁴³ Rejoice, heavens, with him, And let all the angels of God worship him: Rejoice, nations, with his people, And let all the children of God rely on him: For he avengeth the blood of his children, And will judge, and execute vengeance on his enemies, To them who hate him he will render retribution, And the Lord will purify the land of his people.

⁴ Joakim shed innocent blood, and filled Jerusalem with it. Therefore the Lord would not be pacified.

²⁶ And they who afflicted thee shall eat their own flesh, and drink like new wine their own blood and be made drunk; and all flesh shall know that it is I the Lord who delivered thee. And who uphold the strength of Israel.

²² Thus saith the Lord, the God who judgeth his people, Behold I have taken out of thy hand the cup of horror; the great cup of mine indignation; and thou shalt no more drink it again. ²³ And I will put it into the hands of them, who have injured thee and oppressed thee; who have said to thy soul, Crouch down that we may walk over thee, when thou hadst bent thy body down level with the earth in the street, to them passing along.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children, you did not receive instruction: a sword devoured your prophets, like a ravening lion; and you were not terrified.

¹¹ And the priests and the false prophets addressed the chiefs, and said to all the people, Let sentence of death pass on this man, because he hath prophesied against this city as you have heard with your ears.

¹⁶ Then the chiefs and all the people said to the priests and the false prophets, This man is not liable to death, for he hath spoken to us in the name of the Lord.

¹³ Because of the sins of her prophets; the iniquities of her priests; of them who were shedding innocent blood, in the midst of her,

² for as you judge, you shall be judged: and the measure which you mete, shall be measured to you again.

³⁵ But the tenants seizing his servants, beat one and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants in greater number than the first, and they treated them in the same manner. ³⁷ At last he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the tenants saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir. Come let us kill him and keep possession of his inheritance. ³⁹ So, seizing him, they turned him out of the vineyard and slew him. ⁴⁰ Now when the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to these tenants? ⁴¹ They say to him, "Wretches! he will put them to a wretched death: and his vineyard he will let to others; who will render him the fruits in their seasons."

³⁰ and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers we would not have been their accomplices in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of them who killed the prophets. ³² As for you then, fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents! brood of vipers! how can you escape the punishment of hell? ³⁴ For this, behold I am about to send you prophets, wise men and Scribes: and some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth; from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, All these things will come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem! Jerusalem! thou that killest the prophets and stonest them who are sent to thee! how often have I desired to gather thy children even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings; but you would not!

⁴⁹ on this account indeed said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill, and others they will persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation.

⁴⁸ but he who did not know it, and did things deserving chastisement, shall be beaten with few. For to whom much is given, of him much will be required. And the more a man is entrusted with, the more will be demanded from him.

²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, think ye, will he be thought worthy, who hath trampled upon the Son of God, and accounted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, a common thing, and treated contemptuously the spirit of grace?

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O sovereign, the holy one and the true, dost thou defer judging and avenging our blood on the inhabitants of the earth?" ¹¹ And to every of them were given white robes and they were told that they should rest yet a little while till their fellow servants and their brethren who were about to be slain as well as they were completed.

¹⁸ The nations indeed were enraged and thy wrath came and the time for the dead to be avenged and for giving the reward to thy servants the teachers and to the saints and to them who fear thy name, small and great, and for destroying them who destroy the earth.

¹⁰ If any one gathereth [prisoners] for captivity; into captivity he goeth; if any one shall kill with the sword; with the sword he ought to be slain. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

¹⁵ And power was granted to it to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might speak and cause all to be slain who would not worship the image of the beast.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus; and when I saw her I expressed my astonishment with great amaze. ⁷ And the angel said to me, Why art thou amazed? I will tell thee the mystery of this woman and of the beast which carrieth her, which hath seven heads and ten horns.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven! and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints and of all who were slain on the earth.

² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he hath passed sentence on the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and hath avenged the blood of his servants, at her hand.
