³³ After that, Pilate went into the Government House again, and calling Jesus up, asked him: "Are you the King of the Jews?"

¹¹ Meanwhile Jesus was brought before the Roman Governor. "Are you the King of the Jews?" asked the Governor. "It is true," answered Jesus.

² "Are you the King of the Jews?" asked Pilate. "It is true," replied Jesus.

³⁸ "Blessed is He who comes--Our King--in the name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven, And glory on high." ³⁹ Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him: "Teacher, reprove your disciples." ⁴⁰ But Jesus answered: "I tell you that if these men are silent, the very stones will call out."

³ "Are you the King of the Jews?" Pilate asked him. "It is true," replied Jesus. ⁴ But Pilate, turning to the Chief Priests and the people, said: "I do not see anything to find fault with in this man."

⁴⁹ "Rabbi," Nathanael exclaimed, "you are the Son of God, you are King of Israel!"

¹³ And went out to meet him, shouting as they went: "'God save Him! Blessed is He who Comes in the name of the Lord'--The King of Israel!"

²⁸ From Caiaphas they took Jesus to the Government House. It was early in the morning. But they did not enter the Government House themselves, lest they should become 'defiled,' and so be unable to eat the Passover. ²⁹ Therefore Pilate came outside to speak to them. "What charge do you bring against this man?" he asked.

³⁷ "So you are a King after all!" exclaimed Pilate. "Yes, it is true I am a King," answered Jesus. "I was born for this, I have come into the world for this--to bear testimony to the Truth. Every one who is on the side of Truth listens to my voice."

³ They kept coming up to him and saying: "Long live the King of the Jews!" and they gave him blow after blow with their hands.

⁹ And, going into the Government House again, he said to Jesus: "Where do you come from?"

¹² This made Pilate anxious to release him; but the Jews shouted: "If you release that man, you are no friend of the Emperor! Any one who makes himself out to be a King is setting himself against the Emperor!"

¹⁹ Pilate also had these words written and put up over the cross--'JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.' ²⁰ These words were read by many of the Jews, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and they were written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. ²¹ The Jewish Chief Priests said to Pilate: "Do not write 'The King of the Jews', but write what the man said--'I am the King of the Jews.'" ²² But Pilate answered: "What I have written, I have written."

³⁴ It was not David who went up into Heaven; for he himself says- -'The Lord said to my master: "Sit on my right hand, ³⁵ Till I put your enemies as a footstool under they feet."' ³⁶ So let the whole nation of Israel know beyond all doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ--this very Jesus whom you crucified."
