¹⁵ So Jesus gave them this warning. "Take care," he said, "beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."

¹ At that time Prince Herod heard of the fame of Jesus,

⁶ Presently Jesus said to them: "Take care and be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

¹¹ How is it that you do not see that I was not speaking about bread? Be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." ¹² Then they understood that he had told them to be on their guard, not against the leaven of bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went away and conferred together as to how they might lay a snare for Jesus in the course of conversation. ¹⁶ They sent their disciples, with the Herodians, to say to him: "Teacher, we know that you are an honest man, and that you teach the way of God honestly, and are not afraid of any one; for you pay no regard to a man's position. ¹⁷ Tell us, then, what you think. Are we right in paying taxes to the Emperor, or not?" ¹⁸ Perceiving their malice, Jesus answered: "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?

¹³ Afterwards they sent to Jesus some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to set a trap for him in the course of conversation.

¹ Meanwhile the people had gathered in thousands, so that they trod upon one another, when Jesus, addressing himself to his disciples, began by saying to them: "Be on your guard against the leaven--that is, the hypocrisy--of the Pharisees. ² There is nothing, however covered up, which will not be uncovered, nor anything kept secret which will not become known.

¹⁵ And then he added: "Take care to keep yourselves free from every form of covetousness; for even in the height of his prosperity a man's true Life does not depend on what he has."

⁶ Your boasting is unseemly. Do not you know that even a little leaven leavens all the dough? ⁷ Get rid entirely of the old leaven, so that you may be like new dough-free from leaven, as in truth you are. For our Passover Lamb is already sacrificed-Christ himself; ⁸ Therefore let us keep our festival, not with the leaven of former days, nor with the leaven of vice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²¹ I charge you solemnly, before God and Christ Jesus and the Chosen Angels, to carry out these directions, unswayed by prejudice, never acting with partiality.

¹³ I urge you, as in the sight of God, the source of all life, and of Christ Jesus who before Pontius Pilate made the great profession of Faith--

¹⁴ Remind people of all this; urge them solemnly, as in the sight of God, to avoid controversy, a useless thing and the ruin of those who listen to it.
