¹¹ These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹¹ And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaks unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

¹⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

⁷ Are not you our God, who did drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your friend for ever?

⁸ But you, Israel, are my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

²⁴ He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.

⁵² And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

³⁹ And when he was come in, he says unto them, Why make all of you this disturbance, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ And has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. ²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

³ Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.

¹³ Nevertheless Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

⁴³ And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

¹³ Greater love (o. agape) has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ All of you are my friends, if all of you do whatsoever I command you. ¹⁵ Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁸ Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

⁵¹ Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

¹⁴ Wherefore he says, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word (o. logos) of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

¹⁰ Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
