³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all your billows and your waves passed over me.

⁷ Deep calls unto deep at the noise of your waterspouts: all your waves and your billows are gone over me.

¹ Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the flood of waters overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

⁵ Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom you remember no more: and they are cut off from your hand. ⁶ You have laid me in the low pit, in darkness, in the deeps. ⁷ Your wrath lies hard upon me, and you have afflicted me with all your waves. ¹² And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. ¹³ Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. ¹⁴ Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We plead to you, O LORD, we plead to you, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you. ¹⁵ So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. ¹⁶ Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
