⁹ Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them your sons, and your sons' sons;

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: ²⁴ And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

²¹ My son, let not them depart from your eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.

¹⁶ A gracious woman retains honour: and strong men retain riches.

³ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse: he that does keep his soul shall be far from them.

¹⁹ Hear you, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart in the way.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can all of you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

³⁸ Watch all of you and pray, lest all of you enter into temptation. The spirit (o. pneuma) truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

⁴⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.
