⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

⁷ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you: ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto you.

¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep?

²⁶ As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come as one that travels; and your lack as an armed man.

¹³ The slothful man says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

²⁵ The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel does not know, my people does not consider.

²⁶ Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are all of you not much better than they?

²⁶ His lord answered and said unto him, You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not scattered:

¹¹ Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; (o. pneuma) serving the Lord;

¹² That all of you be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
