¹⁴ I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

⁹ Only rebel not all of you against the LORD, neither fear all of you the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

²⁰ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people has transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice; ²¹ I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died: ²² That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. ²³ Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

³ He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

⁸ And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holds the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord GOD.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, says the LORD of hosts: strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
